But Kumada deeply loves his family and will protect it at the peril of his life when members of a yakuza clan set on fire to his house to facilitate a real estate transaction. Jailed for the murder of those who failed to burn his people alive, Kumada was released fifteen years later and found his family. He will have to face the distrust of his children who know nothing of their father except that he had abandoned them. But he is determined to regain control of their education, starting with his son, a urchin abused by the tough guys of the district.

Oyaji is the manliest man ever. Loves and cares for his family, fights evil, is built like an ox and hung like horse.

He is everything a true man should aspire to be. If I ever become a father, I wanna be just like him.

Now that there's 5 chapters left and since this manga has gotten even better i can write a review without problems.
Oyaji is a badass, no doubt about it.
And he's not just a badass because he's amazing at fights or because he's feuled by vengeance. No, there's more. He is a badass because he returns to his family, wants to patch things up and make the most of his current situation. He is a good father and overall family man or at the very least tries to be. Reading these last few chapters, and thank God this project was revived, you can see clearly just how amazing he truly is.
All in all there's great depth in this story, it's not just random violence, it showcases the values of loyalty, family, justice and many others.
Oh and did i mention he is a total badass?
Read it!

oyaji isn't just a badass tale of a badass being a badass, its also the story of a father trying stray from his own father's path of drunken asshole-ishness. his timely flashbacks of his father's behavior guide him to be an even greater, total badass.

And am not a fan of suck a realistic art style, this seinen manga is the epitome of manliness. When I read other people's comments, I was skeptical, seeing how the first few chapters seemed to only have it's problems solved through violence.

However, the characters are unique, flawed (in a good way), and they get to grow. I held back my tears as I read this story (I didn't read it all on one go). I would definitely recommend people to try this out.

A time where stereotypes are done correctly. Dramatic in the sense that there is so much crying but even I teared up and man is that a hard one to pull from me nowadays. While I'm a bit put off my the whole masculinity aspect of it---the moral is the most important thing. Also, old fashioned yakuza action. Sweet.

Seriously some of the most manly sh*t I ever read. Ignoring the rough art, you can totally immerse yourself into the world of these characters. The main is a total badass. If the art was a little more refined, this would have been even better, but it's plenty awesome as is. Read it.

As already stated, a badass story about a man who is built like an ox, hung like a horse, and brave as a lion. He is also a family man and possibly the greatest father ever. Truly an inspiring read. Be prepared for both male and female nudity and extreme violence.

Think of a hardcore badass mofo and give him a family in the slums, and you have Oyaji. It's a dark and violent manga, humorous in its excess displays of badassery by the father. I wouldn't call it great, but the 8 chapters so far have been entertaining.

After getting used to the mangaka's unique artwork, this manga became so touching and it was really relatable. Oyaji was awesome and I'm glad he showed up and I hope he's at peace.

I found it today, when chapter 24 was scanlated. Any other day in the history of the world, and I probably wouldn't have found this.
And I am glad that I did find it.
