loved it

Ive watched the anime about 4 times within a long period of time. I really loved the anime each and every time I have watched. This last time I watched it, I was really curious about what happened after the anime ended so I decided to read the manga. I have never read manga before and never really wanted to because Im more into watching the animation and listening to the voice actors. This time I had to try it out because I was really interested in knowing what all went on afterwards. I felt that in the manga, bad things just constantly kept happening and it annoyed me that Makino was constantly over think about how she felt towards Tsukasa....I guess that was all part of her character growth. I like how Tsukasa became a better person and wasn't a selfish, arrogant and immature kid towards the end. Some have the opinion that he was forceful when it came to being intimate with Makino but I saw it as him wanting to be more connected with her. The storyline was all over the place as well but like I said, i loved this manga and anime. Now about the ending.. it felt extremely rushed.. I wish the writer would of taken more time going into detail about what was going to happen between the main characters relationship, all the other characters growth and just how everything was falling into place. I didn't like how the manga ended but I feel that maybe within time the writer will go on and add more to the story. We never got a glimpse into the future and how everything just turned out for the characters. Wishful thinking! Im really hoping that they will remake the anime (with all the same voice actors because I loved them), they'll go by the whole manga and make it wayyyy longer to where it ends just like the manga does. I mean they did remake Sailormoon and theres so many episodes to Bleach, so based off of that knowledge and some hardcore wishful thinking. I really hope they remake the anime and make it into the full series just like the manga. I recommend both to watch and read, its for sure my favorite.

I really loved almost everything about this manga. Although at times there were characters that I found absolutely frustrating and wanted to drop it, the mangaka managed to keep my attention throughout the 241 chapters of the entire plot. The character friendships were gorgeous and the drama was paced well so it wasn't suffocated, and it wasn't too slow that I made me want to stop reading it. In other words, it was very well paced. The ending was a little bit disappointing... like you've been through so much together... WHY ARE YOU STILL BOTH VIRGINS aha lol
A recommended read!

A friend recommended this series to me and I managed to get through 5 chapters before calling it quits. I couldn't find a single, likable character nor do I intend to discover that these snot nosed brats really do have kind souls. No rating as this wasn't my type of series to start with.

The manga starts with the so called F4 intensely bullying people (including the protagonist) for shits and giggles. The leader of the F4 (who apparently ends up with the protagonist at the end confused confused ) even pays a group of guys to RAPE her. Like do the rabid fans understand the depth of how horrifying and criminal this is? And everyone kinda just blow over it like this doesn't matter at all. Even the protagonist just kicks this guys once and thinks it's all pretty much sorted. Later when some girls in the class bully her in a similar (though less violent and cruel) way, they are completely villainized. The boys meanwhile enjoy a nice redemption arc (actually that might not be right cause it kind of seems like they aren't even being redeemed but rather were great from the start which was obviously not true). I really wanted to like this since it's something of a shoujo icon, but I cannot continue this confusing, misogynistic mess. Maybe it gets better later(?), but that doesn't overshadow the beginning. You can't pretend these things didn't happen.

This story starts as somehow realistic: rich boys play around destroying others school lives and nobody can stop them. The only stupid girl who tries to do something gets toyed around by them and their lackeys. So you can say it looks rather good and understandable. And then starts some crazy s***: she actually fallsin love with two of them (Stogholm syndrome?). Then we read how good these boys really are and forget about all their victims or make these victims look bad (episode with the hostage). As for me I think that those boys are spoiled trash. I understand their behaviour but do not understand their parents reaction.

My childhood

There are so many reasons why I love this series.

First, it's the artwork. I believe some time when I was young, I thought the artwork was not my taste. But as I grew older, I thought it was so beautiful and especially, the mangaka drew the male characters so attractive that I even started to have feelings for them lol I admire how Kamio-sensei could figure out that hairstyle for Domyouji. It's perfect for his character and personality. But for those who aren't fond of this artwork. Please keep reading it, you'll definitely fall in love for it in the end wink

As for the storyline, well nowadays there are so many mangas which are about bullyings and such things but I must admit that Hana yori Dango is the best of them all. I've never come across a manga series that I could also fall in love with all the characters. I find them all lovable, not Umi though (haha). But what really bothers me the most is the relationship between Tsukushi and Rui. When I was little, I was head over heels for Rui. But now I feel different, I completely understand why Tsukushi fell in love with Tsukasa.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
However, isn't it cruel to make Rui having one-sided loves all the time? When I finished reading this series, I had the kind of sad feeling. I really felt sorry for Rui. He should be happy. Well, the mangaka initially made Rui the main male character, but as the series went on Tsukasa became more popular so she changed. I've asking myself so many times. What would have happened if Tsukushi had chosen Rui? I'd love to see how the story would have turned out.

As the story went on, about 30+ volumes..
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Things suddenly become so complicated that Tsukushi had to deal with Tsukasa's mother. Everything became extremely dramatic when Tsukushi decided to cut all the connections with the Doumyouji's and somehow, seeing Tsukasa being so violent without her scared me. It was sweet to see him all sweet and simple when he was so happy to receive Tsukushi's cookies at the beginning but later on, his possessive love became a little too much. That was the moment when a small part of me wanted Rui to take her away. The storyline got ridiculous to the point Tsukasa lost his memory (and that b-tch Umi appeared!!!), which made the whole scenes full of Tsukushi crying and Rui comforting her. (I still now feel so sorry for Rui, you little boy -sobs-)

And then BAMMMM! THE ENDING!! The ending is really unsatisfactory. You know the feeling when I reread this series, 37 volumes for 2 days and got this kind of ending. I was so angry and sad at the same time. I believe everybody here expected an actual wedding from the mangaka too. This vague ending left me an irritating feeling and RAAAAAH. Even though I know Tsukasa would come back after 4 years but this is so.... IRRITAAAAATING.

Well, the story would become perfect if Kamio-sensei added some extras about their wedding, future, and some happy moments!! After all those incidents involved with Tsukasa's mother, everything was all sad and full of tears :(
And those oneshots about Rui from Jewelry Box even made me feel more sad...
-okay the end of my emotional speech about this series-

Overall, I think this is a really good read. Much better than those shoujo mangas nowadays with the same plots repeated everyday. The series was predictable at some points. But the good thing was the mangaka knew how to make her story interesting enough for us to follow. Anyways, I'm buying this series and I will reread it again once I get the books!

at first I have no interest in reading as it seems so... complicated, and the story is pretty well-known, like, everybody know how it goes, because it has been made into many versions of dramas. But even though it's like that, I couldn't stop reading in the end. The chapters make me wanna know what happens next. Sure the story isn't very 'direct'. Tsukasa and Tsukushi, I feel like hitting both their heads sometimes. But in the end I like this story smile nice one! classic!

Lol, this manga was quite long, but it was very enjoyable~. I began to read 2 chapters, but dropped it cuz of the art..sorry DX so I tried watching the Korean drama (first time trying to watch something Korean) it was very good so I picked up the manga again, I got used to the art and the art improves. There is character development, and most of the characters are likeable. Though Makino's parents pissed me off so much...way too irresponsible and greedy, Makino went through so much and her parents did not help. Overall, its pretty good. Also, the scanalations were...uh...poor ish? There were many empty bubbles and mistakes. >.< not trying to be a total jerk or anything..it just made some thongs confusing..

This is by far one of my favorites. It starts off kind of slow, with some awkward moments like on the island when Tsukasa finds Makino with another member of the F4 and then when Tsukasa agrees to dating/being with the girl his mom set him up with to break away from Makino. After those, the story gets really interesting and do does the art for at the beginning the characters, especially Makino and Tsubasa, didn't look that well drawn but the art gets a lot better the more the story goes. And, this was the first manga imever that I cried after reading one part (when Makino almost leaves Tsubasa on the the bus but gets off the bus because she truly does love Tsubasa). It's just a great story I can read over and over again. I really suggest reading it!! smile
