Collection of stories with pretty art
by kidoraku

Rating: 8.0  / 10.0
There are different stories, some are very good, strong-plotted and realistic, some rather average but I enjoyed all of them. The art is clean and pretty. I like that they're real life like, with many characters with different looks, personalities and jobs but honestly I'd like them to be longer. You probably know this feeling when you start liking the characters and you want to know more about them but suddenly you're reaching the last page and there's nothing you can do... that's how I felt this time.

Anyway it's a nice collection of stories, I had a good time and now I'm curious about other works from this mangaka. I'm gonna read some more

The first story

I've read this a while back, and I remembered that the cont. of the first story is the last chapter, so I didn't really enjoy the other stories as much (since I was looking forward to remembering what happened tho I guess I was expecting too much bc I remembered that the cover of the manga left an impression). And when I read the last chapter...how can I say this... I guess I was disappointed? Idk. Both of them had feelings for e/o (tho the seme only considered his feelings as a crush)...it can still develop over time. We only know what will happen if we try.

(Bitter)Sweet, fleeting moments of realism

The stories are short, and every single one of them left me wishing there was a continuation instead of only oneshots.
I liked some of the stories more than others, but all in all, they were very nice to read.
There's cute and romantic moments, funny and serious and sad ones, so it's got some for everyone.

Well, like I already said, the only negative thing about this or oneshots in general, is that I really don't like seeing just a little moment in those people's lives, but would rather read a whole 1 or two volumes full. Other than that, thumbs up!

A Pleasant Surprise

In terms of the art, it's very mediocre. The stories, however, were interesting. They held this sort of realism and felt very grounded. Now, I'm not saying I hate comedic or fluffy stories, but I really liked Ai ga Aru kara because the stories sort of reminded me of the very serious and the very heartfelt and emotionally profound works of Yoshinaga Fumi.

It's not like the stories aren't fluffy and sweet at times, but they don't resort to the usual tropes of yaoi manga. For example, instead of artificially creating a romantic rival to put strain on a relationship, Fujimoto Haruki uses the stress of moving in together or of incompatible schedules limiting the time they have together. Strangely enough though, I enjoyed the fourth story because it didn't force itself to be about a problematic relationship, and instead it was more about the characters, who were both interesting in their own way.

My one complaint about the story telling is that Fujimoto tends to get a little too ..... talkative? She's talented enough as a writer to create stories with a lot of potential, but she adds in a little to much internal monologue (especially at the end) instead of letting the story speak for itself. There are sometimes some good perspectives that come out of these parts, but it could benefit from being half the size.

The quality of the art and the rather choppy transitions that come as a result are a little annoying to put up with, but I think it's worth a read because this author has a lot of potential.

Realistic in a sense....

I agree that the first story is quite stirring, but perhaps due to the realistic ending, it made me enjoy the book less. I like to read stories where even if the person they end with, is not the one i had in mind, they are happy. I don't like the realism to the extend that it did; it's a personal pet peeve though, so others may enjoy it more for it?

The other stories felt somewhat incomplete too, but enjoyable none the less.

The first story

The first story, the one the summary mentioned, left me with an impression so strong that, I could not really enjoy any other stories but keep looking for more about it instead. I can't really say it was good or bad or just average, it was just... stirring? (Maybe just because I was able to relate it to my own experience.) The plot may seem pretty ordinary, but the way it ends makes it stands out. Though I really want more of it, I think its ending is perfect. If it drags on, it will just be another one of those yaoi stories out there.

Anyway, I wish it was placed at the end of the book, so I can somehow read the other stories as well sad A 9 for the first story then, since I don't give anything more than 9.
