I love mafia stories. This one was a little different but I like these can of art. Just a little tragic. The last story was really random. This reminded me of Double Mint, so if you like that than you should give this a try.

All the feels....

Like commentators before me have said, this will make you cry and that tragedy tag is there for a reason.

But nonetheless, it's really a great story and it actually took me a bit to realize what had actually happened and when it did...the waterfalls started
If you want it to seem happy then don't finish chapter 4
As short as the stories were, the author does a good job of building the characters.
The art is very nice too

the story is good and the art is nice enough but dear god the endings made my heart ache due to all the pain and sadness. if the story wasn't good i would have given this manga a really low score but damn it was good but again the ending just made a mess of me. so cruel. i'm starting to think of not reading any of Aniya Yuuji-sensei's works, because of this and the other one that makes me just feel horrible at the end.

Dark and violent

Filled with sex and violence it portrays the dark world of yakuza and secret agents like no other manga I have read. But what this story is really all about is loyalty and the price on has to pay for being loyal to their master, superior, friend, lover... Beautiful and very sad story. I haven't read such dark and violent story in a long time. Definitely RECOMMENDED!

i just read shisei no otoko and all i have to say is that the lovestories in this manga are all so dark and bitter and tragic, i couldn't help but cry. the world pictured in the manga is an unnecessarily cruel place, where all you ever do is struggle for happiness but never attain it (if you read the fourth chapter, you will get what i mean). it's extremely hard to stay alive dealing with all the misfortunes that come at you as you try to be happy and at the same time stay sane and pure.

the thing that was the hardest for me to take in this manga was that the lovestories in the first 2 chapters are al puppy-loves and what you normally expect in such stories is a happy ending in a pink-colored world, etc... but the endings were the worst possible, in fact, you never would've imagined that these stories would turn out this way and no matter what the characters do after that will be all in vain... T^T

so, if you still want to read this manga, think again. the "tragedy" tag is there for a reason....

Take the warnings from others seriously. Even though these are not "good" people; you will still fall in love with them....so the resolution at the end, because it's somewhat realistic, it is hard to swallow.

stunning storytelling

My favorite work of Aniya Yuiji. The storytelling was exceptional, each chapter reveals a different side, so that although your assumptions are completely overturned, when you look back all the clues were there there. I didn't think this was a tearjerker, although there are definitely some punch-to-the-guts moments, if felt more like an injection of realism than anything else, and I admire the author for it. Definitely a lot more thoughtful than most manga. If you enjoyed the Departed, Invincible, Fight Club, and similar movies, I think you'll enjoy this too.

Men of Tattoos was an impulse buy of mine. For many reasons, I'm not especially into yakuza stories and even less interested in any particularly Japanese-flavored tragedies. Of course, the main story of this volume happens to feature both of those themes. I can't say that I didn't enjoy the story or that the mangaka wasn't any good. My particular annoyance lies in a seemingly national predisposition for denying happiness to characters and the audience. Of course, this isn't only present in manga, but also film, television and some of the most famous pieces of literature in Japan. It's like an assumption that they're not artistic enough if someone doesn't cry at the end of the story.
All that being said, I tried not to let my annoyance get in the way of my rating. The artwork is pleasantly fluid, the characters are okay and the story has more depth to it than it seems. For me, the second story about the students is more enjoyable to read, as are other Aniya pieces I've read. Still, if you can look past the downfalls, it's a book worth reading.

I have to admit it, this manga completely mind-f'd me into thinking that "tragedy" tag was a mistake with it's cute beginning and odd sense of humor. That tag is NOT a mistake. I cried like a little bitch all through the end. I don't want to slap spoilers in here, but be ready for happy endings for the manga's couples to be short-lived (or non-existent). I am a tragedy junkie, so I really loved this story. Even if tragedy isn't your bag, this is still a great story to read. The art is incredible, well detailed and consistently good. The characters are pretty well fleshed out for an ensemble manga like this. I'm still miffed about being fooled into thinking that there was a pot of gold at the end of
"Shisei"'s rainbow (read the story to get what I mean there), but since it was a damned good way to drag major tears out of me, I'll forgive it. ^_~
