Really love it. Confusing and dark.

Well, first there are a lot of reviews that totally trash this series and while I understand from they are coming from, I can't say that I hated this manga.

On the contrary I really loved it because of the same things people are arguing about.
Its complicated and full of flash backs and sometimes you can't really understand what is going on: I ADORE it.
It keeps me on my toes and makes put an effort reading this and try to figure what the characters are thing about.

The legend and storical parts may be a bit confusing but nothing that a bit of research can't fix and its not really necessarily if you follow the flow of the manga l.

Its not a normal manga, don't search for a linear story and everything tied nicely together.
You won't find much of that here. Its confusing on purpose and full of flaws that imitate human morals and opinions, because what is Human is important in the plot.

But if you want a story full of misleading and dark themes, this is your thing.

Yet you can't read it in public! Its full of breasts and panties shots and other stuff you won't like getting caught reading by friends or coworkers.

Some characters I loved more than others and if you love characters besides the main protagonist that is very well.
The author made it that way and I respect that.
Especially the part that the main character is there to be the catalist of the current story, and ties past and present together in some ways... He doesn't have to be the hero nor the most important person there, there are plenty of other characters that are heroes in very different ways so you can pick who you love the most.

I won't say anything to anyone if this is a good or bad manga.
Read it yourself and judge if its a good story for you.

This guy is the team ninja of the manga world. Insert enough sex and violence and it will sell. Fuck story and plot, sensible pacing. If u have enough blood and titties the rest of shit don't matter. I read this entire thing in one go and still didn't understand fuckin half of it.

Oh! Great go home

This is his best long term manga for sure but i just can´t recommend it to anyone. The art itself is very good but especially later on it becomes very hard to understand what is happening on the page. The story starts very badly but recovers during the early flashback sequence but after that it goes down hill fast.
The ancient japan flashback and the later volumes become nearly incomprehensible and the ending is beyond words. It makes the original ending of Mass Effect 3 look reasonable(which i can tolerate).
What i also didn´t like was how the female characters were treated or dawn. It really shows that Oh! Great is still a hentai artist in his heart. Well what ever. I wasted my time overall so don´t make the same mistake i did.

I like how Oh! Great work but...

I have to agree with JJSR2. Oh! Great is one of my favorite artist, i even read him hentai stuff and both art and story are good, however, he always mess up things in the last chapters and he did it in both, Air Gear and this one (I enjoyed more Tenjou than Air Gear).
Of course we have to give he some merit cause work in two mangas at same time is not easy and as far as i know he keeps a good rate on both, we can say for sure he worry about him fans not like other artist that leaves works unfinished or tooks forever to finish (i.e. Bastard) without any explanation.
In the end, the art is awesome and the history is good (about the history everyone would have him own opinion ofc), the fighs are nice and the balance between ecchi, martial arts, sobrenatural and comedy is perfect for my taste but, and here is where i agree with SSJR2 and others, the final is not good, not just cause it's a open end (Like every manga) is just cause he mess up a lot in the ends and people get confused easy, and this mess up is like someone said before cause it looks like a rush end.
For me this manga deserves a 8, though.

Peace and sorry for my bad english.

this is gonna be a lot like my air gear review(his other series). this was originally a great series with amazing art and a great story, the characters are really cool and the fighting scenes were great. i really loved reading this and Air Gear at the same time cause i started reading them both at the same time; but again like Air gear this starts taking a random turn it starts getting flooded with tons of metaphoric sequences and random detachments of the stories and by the end it was nothing but that. i really liked the characters and the art gets way better by the end but Oh great just messed up his story and loses you many times. the only plus i can say that this had over air gear is that since the stories were a little more simpler he does less metaphoric bull that didnt mess it up as much as it did for air gear but still it made it less of a story and more of a book of random sketches.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Plus he messed this one up before air gear since it ending early and he gave them both similar lame ass ending with the "main" character beating the main evil even though he shouldnt be in the level of the evil and random clips of future and current (only with lesser characters not the main) then a Last strip of them doing what they originally were doing at the beginning with none of the plot holes and mysteries solved and no future panel for the rest, they all just started doing the same shit again.

All in all this start great then ended disappointing story wise and structure wise. ill only give this a 7.5 cause it started good, the art is great and it didnt get as random and messed up as Air gear did even though it still had a lot of that. Now that both of these series ended i cant really say i can read any of this authors stuff ever again

One of the few I never finished.

I normally have this tick - If I started, then I have to finish (unless I stop at the first few chapters), but this... It was a long time ago, so I don't really recall why EXACTLY, but as I'm reading Air Gear right now, I can with utmost certainty know that one of the reasons is his hard-to-comprehend writing/drawing-style. All I know is that I'm pretty frickin' happy I never finished it, and you're probably better off not starting it in the first place (unless you're familiar with his other works and know that you can understand his style, I guess).

The nudity and sex was its only redeeming factor - if you're gonna show tit, draw some nipples on them (which he did as I recall).

It's hard to care about Tenjou Tenge unless you become invested in one character, otherwise there's nothing to follow. You could pretend that the story makes sense and go along with it though, the guy's trying so hard.

ETA: I adore Masataka, and I wish that he had had a bigger role to play in the beginning, but part of my enjoyment of this character is the rewarding experience in which he becomes more prominently portrayed at the end.

To his credit I think anyone can relate to a character here, and the story turns out such a mess because he lets everyone hog the spotlight to their heart's content.

And it's so beautiful. The details are there, but for once they don't obscure focus.

I really had high hopes for this manga. It could have been a lot better if the plot didn't keep on changing.

My favorite arc is Shin's. I wish his relationship with Maya had been further explored.

I mistook the main character too, and man it drove me crazy! It was all set up to be about Takayanagi... and then it wasn't. To top it off, I never even really liked Nagi in the first place. He's a shallow, rude punk with a sad past (aren't they all), and watching the manga butter him up with his 'amazing improvements' is like... gah.

I don't know. I haven't given up on it yet. Maya is particularly fun.
