could not understand it for the life of me -_- i mean, the first ch was pretty interesting but after that (and im guessing this is the translator's fault), the pages seemed mixed up, the sentences make no sense whatsoever. oh, and all the characters look the same....it took me about 5 pgs to realize the main character was talking to the bad guy an not the seme. talk about confusing...

Whew. This one was hard work to read due to the dreadfully amatueur scanlation. There were many important sfx that were left untranslated and quite a number of speech bubbles that were either untranslated or giving the gods of english rhetoric, grammar and punctuation anxiety attracks. Regardless, I appreciate and honour the brave efforts of all scanlators, no matter the skill, because otherwise these gems would never be available to the English speaking fans in any half-comprehensive form. And this one is quite worth the effortful reading and imaginative jumps--the lively illustrations help communicate the message--one must make in understanding.
The setting of the Shinsengumi is really only that: a setting. Era falls into background as Kamo-sensei focuses on the interactions of the warriors. The story is simple, but paced and plotted well for the most part. (The uke makes a major life decision that seemed to be missing the climactic, angsty, tension-buidling scene.) The bizarre mix of comedy, personal drama, and fight scenes made for an overall fun but meaningful reading experience.
The relationships are sweet and tender. The main couple--who grew up together--includes a seme that treats the young uke more like a loving father, much to the distress of said uke. Another couple--mostly unexplored--have a very pretty and soulful chase seen that ends in a touchingly illustrated kiss taken place half under the water of a river.
This manga would be stunning with a new scalation make over. Right now, for newcomers to Kamo-sensei the scanlation detracts enough that it wanes into mediocre or even throw away quality. If you are a die-hard fan of Kamo-sensei, you will possibly still enjoy it as I did.
