The artwork is typical of Kanbe Akira, who has done a lot of BL. It's not BL, and I'm not sure whether it will turn into Shounen ai either. I believe this is the mangaka’s first series so that’s why the art is a little bit different and the plot a bit amauterish. That being said, I still liked the series.

The beginning is a bit abrupt in that we go from a childhood event w/ Makoto meeting a fox deity and then he’s suddenly in high school w/ his ultra-protective cousin. Makoto can see spirits, but even though his cousin can’t see them, Sho has power to fight them. Up through Ch 11, I didn’t quite understand how both cousins got their power other than inheritance maybe. It’s not explained very well. Makoto has been chosen to be a vessel for all the 5 elements of the spirit kingdoms powers until earth and spirits can get some sort of balance. As a result, Makoto has to go around from deity to deity getting those elements. However, there’s another powerful person who wants to do the same for his own purposes.

It’s an interesting read, and I’m hoping it gets better in the later chapters.
