Enjoyed It

I had my doubts about this manga and even after reading it there were some things I just didn't like, but, overall, I think it was really good.

My list of dislikes is short: I think the story was repetitive with somethings--they argued about the same thing so many times, but I suppose a real marriage would be similar.

And Chiwa's constant crying about EVERYTHING. I don't remember a chapter where she wasn't tearing up. In the beginning I thought Chiwa would be a badass that didn't take crap from anyone, but the moments where Chiwa actually reverted back to that girl that threw a drink on Hokuto were few and far between. The rest is filled with fights, running away, and then making up.

But I guess that kept it interesting. I liked everything else: From the drama within the Mamiya family, to Hokuto's past, I actually like that he works so much and I can't understand how Chiwa can be so sensitive about that. He's a freaking president of a company! He can't entertain her everyday! I like the exs although I feel like Chiwa had way too many admirers and she didn't feel like it was a big deal, but she just wants to roll in a ball and die when she finds out Hokuto had an ex-girlfriend.

I like how everything was wrapped up, although I wish I could have seen an extra of life after the baby. I can't even imagine what that would be like.

A few minor annoyances that were usually resolved by the end of the chapter and sometimes the characters became a little annoying at which point they deserved a good slap. There were moments I laughed, cried, screamed and said "That's it, I'm done with this," just to go on reading it again.

Overall, it was a really good read, I read it all in one sitting(with breaks to stop myself from throwing my computer)and I'm sure I'll revisit this story in the future.

I've noticed a lot of people talking about domestic abuse issues with this manga, particularly about
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Hokuto slapping Chiwa
I read through the first 34 chapters of this series years ago, so I cannot judge this part of it much since I don't remember that happening, however I have my own fish to fry when it comes to domestic abuse in this series, at least what I have seen towards the end:
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
What really disturbs me about what I've read is that there was a scene that can be classified as rape in one of the last chapters. Chiwa clearly said "Not yet" and "No", but Hokuto blatantly disregarded her, saying that he wasn't going to listen and forcing himself into her when she wasn't ready yet. I don't care if they're in love or have been married or whatnot, if the person says no, YOU STOP. There are no excuses for what he did; if he's that horny that he just can't slow down, he can always use his hand and some tissues.
The fact that he kept pressuring her for sex made me really uncomfortable too, but that may be for more personal reasons. But passing off rape as romance is not cool.

The relationship between the two characters is really interesting. It's a love/hate relationship and I think that's a very realistic view of marriage. I loved the plot and the character development. You really get the feeling of "growing together" in this manga and I like it's pretty typical but not overly gushy! I loved Chiwa's strong and hard working personality but I also loved her weak side because it just shows how human she is. Hokuto is definitely one I had to adjust to though. I didn't like his selfish, arrogant side at first and I thought that his character would probably be the reason why Id stop reading the manga but he proved me wrong! You start to see that under all of that, he just wants to love and be loved. They're a pretty great couple in my opinion, a more realistic couple than other couples out there in the manga world.
9/10!

I agree with the below comments, people who are pointing out the "Violence" are the very same people who turn a blind eye to 99% of Female on Male violence ...seriously hw is this to be treated differently than all those Obnoxious female leads who keep slapping and hurting their weak gullible male leads? i smell Hypocricy

anyways coming back to this manga, i thought it was really sweet and how they tried to play the Bride and groom part with lots of comedic essence added to it....the Characters evolve towards the end and i guess i am glad i stuck with it coz this is one of those Sweet Shoujos out there

Not much to rave about, it's pretty average in all aspects. In response to the people complaining about the slap scene and how it was domestic abuse I'd like for all of you to think about all the times a woman has slapped a man in manga, on tv, in movies, etc, if you had no problems with that, then you shouldn't have a problem with this because there is no difference. What has the world come to if it's only a crime if one gender commits it? Besides, by the time you are reading a manga like this you should know by then that hitting people in general is a no no.

But yeah anywho I'd recommend this to people who have some time to kill and not expecting much more than some decent artwork.

Is there a law that forbids making a shoujo or josei smut manga with a strong female lead? Yet another story about a weak girl who depends on her husband to literally save her. On top of being weak, the girl has no ambitions or goals other than to make her husband happy. and in return, her husband calls her an idiot and slaps her. sadly the manga doesn't treat this as a domestic violence issue, or even remotely hints that this is not how a husband should behave. so we have readers here who think this is normal and appropriate behavior. so sad...

It's interesting how people keep on commenting about certain scenes regarding Hokuto's treatment of Chiwa, but for me I was more aware of Chiwa's personality.

She just cries too much for me. It's like 3 out of 4 chapters she cries. Also, I don't think she has much backbone, despite the many shows of strength we've seen in her. I'm not sure if she's meant to be this "complex" character or if her character is just undeveloped.

In contrast, I was amazed with Hokuto's growth as a character. I think this is the reason I stuck until the end, along with the fact the ending wasn't rushed at all (even though there were a lot of stumbles in the middle of the series, but meh).

I might be biased, but first off, that art is pretty awesome and pretty. Don't tell me you didn't like the art, cause I sure did and I'm pretty picky when it comes to art when reading manga.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
And about Hokuto slapping Chiwa... Well, what Enjouji Maki is trying to portray here is reality. You can't have Chiwa just slap Hokuto and him not be able to. I mean, just because this is shoujo doesn't mean she can't make Hokuto do that. She's trying to tell a story here and well, stories are based off of life so there. I was actually surprised when Hokuto first slapped Chiwa (LOL too much slapping here jk. I think Hokuto slaps her two times...) but then, I'm not mad. I mean, it just goes to show that a guy can hit a girl. It happens in real life, we can't ignore that.

Next off... It was dramatic with all the mystery with Hokuto's family background, but hey, it's not like orphans don't exist. But I hate his family, nuff said. So annoying, and I was expecting him to be the head of the company by the end of the manga but hey, Enjouji-sensei gave us a middle ground. He left the company but he decided to make his own company and have his wife work with him.

Then the sex fits into the story. That's what I like about Enjouji Maki's works. It's not like other smut manga I've read where they just slap on the sex wherever they decide to and not every chapter has sex in it.

And the humor in the story kinda cancels out the drama. It's a perfect balance, from how I see it.

I've actually read all her works in one night and it was all awesome. Any work from Enjouji Maki, I'd recommend to those who kinda like cliches but not really cliches... The ones where the overview of the story is a cliche but how she gets you there isn't.

i think the beginning of the manga started off phenomenally with all the romantic tension and stuff between chiwa and hokuto, and later on digging a bit into both of their pasts. later on, however, i started to get bored with all the random plot twists and so much angsting about hokuto's typical family drama. also, hokuto slapping chiwa just seems like character break. wtf enjouji-sensei. since when is that supposed to be acceptable by any standards. and chiwa's just supposed to accept and take it because she's his wife? thanks for encouraging submissive behavior in your female audience.

aside from that huge thorn in this manga, everything else was pretty decent. enjouji maki why do you ruin your good mangas with all this patriarchy bs?!

edit: to all the people who are like "ZOMG HYPOCRITES YOU ENJOYED CHIWA SLAPPING HOKUTO!!" since when did ANYONE say that? -_- no one needs to be slapped for any reason, much less a husband slapping his wife because she thinks she's being an idiot. that aside, what's even more infuriating is chiwa's response. instead of chewing him out, she conceded that she WAS an idiot and then spent the next couple pages/chapters crying over him possibly rejecting her blah blah. what?! in the beginning i believed chiwa had spunk and a backbone, but by the end of the series she was just another snively generic shoujo blob dependent on a dominating man. yawn.

I've finally reached the end of Hapi Mari and I couldn't be more content =D This is one of the best I've read, though I could've done without some of the twists and turns smh

I loved the characters. Chiwas was so adorable, and I could just gobble Hokuto all up!! But I could just kill those stupid Mamiya cousins. Grr!! But why was Grandpa so powerless. He's still head of the family... though he's old.

Hehehe The art was also very wonderful. It really helped the story.

One thing I hated though was..
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
how could Hokuto not be his daddy's kid when they looked so much alike? I don't like that Enjouji sensie did that. It wasn't fair =(

I wish Enjouji sensei could've showed Chiwa's and Hokuto's child.. I bet s/he would be really adorable =)
