Description
From Storm in Heaven:
Meet the Urumas, a slightly dysfunctional family of four sorcerers. Mom, being the most powerful sorceress around, works away from home keeping the world safe. Dad picks up the slack and takes care of the family. Except when he's out, which is when the older brother Jin finds himself in the unenviable position of keeping tabs on his sister Ran. Ran, the youngest, is a willful girl with too much power and too little wisdom. Let's take a look at Ran's everyday misadventures, shall we?

Really nice

Normally I hate children characters in manga, 99% of the time they are stupid, think stupid and act stupid. This manga made it reduce by 1% from 100%, first time I admit the stupidity of children as a valid attitude and support Ran (and even Hibi) completely since chapter 1.

Totally worthwhile.

I might like it if I were 15 or younger.

This one has delicious art but the story is subpar.

I know people will argue that the main character is 10 years old so acting like a little brain dead brat is ok. However, It still does not excuse for her extremely idiotic actions which leads to the deaths of many crows and fatal injuries of her own family members.

The author also tried really hard to make Outarou likable while drawing scenes of him being a complete dick to everybody and a creepy pervert to Ran. This puzzles me; why did the author paint him as an asshole if you want us to sympathize with him? My guess is that the author, like many girls, finds bad boys appealing. Bad boys who, for some miraculous reason, will devote to you and you only. Horrible taste if I might say. She did try to salvage his character at the end but a good author should know that cheap writing shot never works.

Oh did I mentioned that Outaro ( a ~ 30 yr old man) still kisses and gropes Ran all over even after he finds out that she's only 10?

This manga was so beautiful and heart warming. I found the storyline choppy sometimes and I really wished the author would have made it just a bit longer. I wanted to see Ran in her prime. I want to see just how much she matured and improved. But the ending was just as good smile Ran x Hibi...so cute it made me tear up T.T such a great read! Give it a try!!!

the art is absolutely gorgeous, i love the way the characters are drawn with girls with big eyes and big hips, and guys all angular. the characters are fun and varied, and i never get truly mad at any one of them. the plot seems random at first, but go to a good fight and climax, and a bitter sweet resolution.

a must read.

A must read

This is a beautifully drawn manga that manga readers shouldn't miss out on. I wan't to read more of it but unfortunately it was finished. I really enjoyed this manga. It had an original plot into the world of sorcery and magic. Ran's family was unique and it was great that you could see into the different lives of each family member. I especially liked her brother Jin who could shape shift into a wolf. Though, the tag should have included borderline ecchi.

There were parts that got me quite uncomfortable with Ran and Outarou whom I really hated. But what with all the unique plot twists, sudden realization and great dialogue, this manga has found a special place in my heart.

GO HIBI! biggrin

Sparkling stairway to adulthood
by Dr. Love

A captivating tale about a young capricious girl eager to grow up and do all the fun, cool things adults do. Clearly this is accurate to how most young children view adults. Ran is a likable girl and it's hard not to fall for her at first sight. You can tell she comes from a loving family and we get to see the cozy home she was lovingly raised in. Her family are warm & kind people, and asides from them every character is distinctive enough to hold your interest.

The magic creates a fun mood on top of the already comfortable atmosphere that imbues the manga largely thanks to Irie's amazing artistic talent. As the story progresses the tension rises and you root for the characters you've been following, especially Ran. The story portrays love in a youthful, pure manner as is fitting from Ran's perspective.

Honestly this one of my favorite manga, period. Can't wait for your next work, Irie.

Original writing, good art, but a little too idealistic for my tastes

The writing's interesting and seems fairly inspired, the art's surprisingly lavish and does a very good job of creating an atmosphere appropriate for the story world; however, in my opinion, some of the characters are, for lack of a better term, hopelessly idealistic. I acknowledge that I'm probably more of a pragmatist than others, and though I'm still able to enjoy this work, I find myself cringing occasionally.

Definitely worth a read, definitely deserves a 9, but I can't give it a 10.

Additionally, I do not know why this work is presently categorized as "seinen"; in my opinion, it should either be shojo or josei, probably the latter. The action, while certainly present, is by no means the focus of this; rather, I see it as an exploration of the relationships and growth of a young, tomboyish girl that happens to be set in a magical world.

By my standards at least.

This has got to be one of the best manga I've read in a while. The story is whimsical, almost like a Miyazaki film. The relationship between Otarou and Ran is just beautiful.

He falls completely in love with her, I can't let him go, I cried so hard when I found he was dead, I keep trying to read that section, but I seriously cry, tears and all. Im still hoping he'll come back, but I doubt that....
Im not surprised at how much I love this manga, what Im surprised at is how much I love supporting characters romances, like Jin and Sango's relationship, wow was that something. I can't wait for more chapters, especially how it ended, I don't really care for

Hibi x Ran, I want Otarou!! T[]T

I should also say the art is fabulous! How much better can this manga get?! It's fantastic, I'm really hoping this will get a North American release.

Btw how can ppl not like Ran x Otarou, like seriously, becuase he was a perv and had one
-night-stands? I can understand why he changed for Ran, she isn't like the usual girl (even if she is only 10) she is so pure and light-hearted, wanting to be Otarou's friend and to protect him without needing anything from him.

I read these reviews and steeled myself for soft porn and an annoying protagonist. I got neither. This story is beautiful. Outarou's selfish obsessive love was the perfect contrast to highlight the healthy nourishing love exhibited by Hibi. Both loves were real but one relationship obviously displays the better dynamic.

The progression of Ran's mental maturity was incredibly vivid against a dazzling magical backdrop. In fact, the emotional changes all the family members and supporting characters experience are so wonderful I want more even of those side stories that gave us glimpses into their lives. What a family. What a read. I was impressed by how easily I fell into its rythymn. I want to read it all again. And I will. :3

Well-executed storytelling, beautiful, clean art that deserves its own paragraph and entertaining engaging characters. Who could ask for anything more? Well. I could ask that it be animated.
