the stories have other worldly feelings to them. well, the first and the third stories do dealt with otherworldly beings, but the 2nd and 4th stories dealt with mental illnesses that felt out of ordinary too. this is mostly because of the expert way the mangaka use imagery to show the various turmoil of the characters. their expressions are shown clearly and we felt what they felt. the placement of dialogues can be a bit confusing as sometimes so much dialogue at various levels are on a same page, but somehow the disordered placement contribute to the feelings of disturbance. the art is very beautiful and the stroke is very light, adding ephemeral quality to the story.

a great manga for a moment of tragic beauty.

Interesting premise

I will admit it. I start reading manga without looking at the summaries. Most manga fail to surprise me despite that. Bathroom Guuwa succeeded in surprising me with flying colours though. The premise is intriguing because you'd expect 4 women who used to love the same guy before to indulge in some extensive cat fighting. You wish! These women are so mature and accepting that they help each other get over him.

The second story was the complete opposite of the first one, and described a woman who was unable to let go of her ex boyfriend. I confess that this story did not make much sense to me.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
The meaning behind the fishes coming out of taps was completely lost on me. I was also left wondering how the ex could have tolerated such house arrest with exceeding sympathy and did not try to escape. God knows I would have tried my best to escape from that psycho woman.

Okazaki Mari has an ample amount of creativity. She is slowly becoming one of my favourite josei writers biggrin

Four beautiful stories about completely unrelated events. The mangaka, I just don't know how she got these ideas. These stories express such ideas such as love, to remember, etc. The storytelling is absolutely top-notch. Given its length it was a good read.
