A Real Headache
by Hanjae
October 26th, 2011, 7:27am
Rating: 2.0  / 10.0
If I had to summarize this manhwa in one word, it'd probably be "trainwreck." You know it's terrible, but you just can't look away. I suppose some would describe it as addictive because you can't put it down, but it's in the worst way possible - this is essentially a melting pot of every confusing Korean drama cliché ever, combined into one story.

You have identical twin sisters with the same name who are unaware of each others' existence but both suffering in equally horrible environments. The only thing that sets them apart is that one is emotionally broken and takes all the hitting lying down, while the louder twin has gone to the other extreme and does all the hitting. On top of this, you have tragic deaths, bullying, mistaken identities that lead to doomed romances, and so on. Doesn't make for fun reading.

What makes it worse is that most of this is introduced within the first volume or two, and since both girls have the same names and virtually the same faces, the reader is permanently confused. I know they're supposed to look exactly the same, but I'm willing to suspend belief in exchange for less of a headache trying to differentiate them. The boys are just as bad; honestly, the only thing that separates the two is that one has marginally neater hair of a slightly lighter colour. Half the time, I'm all the way at the end of a chapter before I realize that I've been reading about Kang Yi, not Seol Kyom. People don't seem to refer to each other by name very often either, so it's just... continuous confusion.

As for the setting, it'd be nice if the manhwaga had actually attempted to establish some! Characters and scenes flit back and forth, changing settings without so much as a panel (or even just a bubble) explaining where exactly we are now. One moment you're reading about Ka Ram mountain hiking, and then on the next page we're suddenly looking at Ka Ram at school... before you realize you're looking at the other twin. I'm not even going to go into detail about the characters themselves, because they're branded by stereotypes and their personalities seem to change at the drop of a hat. Suffice to say that this manhwa is a complete, epic mess - read at your own peril. If you must, at least make sure you have some aspirin.

I thought the review below was funny until I read this series for myself. Hanjae is totally right.

The first maybe 4 or 5 volumes were okay. The premise was interesting, and like the reviewer said below, I infuriatingly didn't stop reading. However by the middle of the series it was apparent things were going no where. Things are a huge messy mix of Hwang Mi Ri's favorite elements: crazy violent boy w/ dark past, the nice guy, bratty violent girl, and cheesy lines like 'my heart is already frozen' ugh. I'm not quite sure how I got up to Vol 10 before calling it quits. I usually enjoy HMR's works for a fun mindless read, but while I already know the caliber of her works this one just didn't cut it. All the characters in this one were just strange and unrealistic, and I've never read about a heroine so unlikable and male leads so weird.

And one last thing that got on my nerves...
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
The female lead insists on leading a "quiet" high school life. Girl and guy bullies target her. She doesn't stick up for herself so that they will leave her alone. Bullying gets worse and she still takes it. Um... why doesn't she do anything when it's apparent that people aren't going to leave her alone and a quiet high school life is impossible??? Whatever.

starts with one of the twins being bullied by some abusive botch at school and at home. While the guy that likes her sits around doing nothing really. She then gets into an accident and passes away.. Somehow it then skips to the other twin faking being a nerd at school and doing weird jobs for money and fighting. That's when the story "kicks off" she pretty much gets beat by girls and boys at school and fights boys and girls back when she is not. She's then found out by the guy that liked her twin and slowly but surely the truth of their love is revealed as well as her past. There is also an annoying black haired that I wish would stop being a stalker. All the unnecessary hitting makes it very annoying to read. And since when do guys beat on girls like that??? So stupid... End with all the orphans knowing about each other and some weird plot separating them going on. The last guy she did the job with ended up dying so now she is a Felon. And the devil wants her but ah doesn't. Him and the step dad are behind the separation of the family.the devil ends up faking his death and she thinks he is dead.. Then as her be gives her a promise ring.. He breaks up with her the next day. Seems they ganged up together and permanently put here orphanage father in the hospital for life. She then runs away from the Feds to America with her mom.. The bf screams his love for her still. 8 years laterThe end is super ridiculous with a girl following him for no reason and him finder her as a pirate and they get married the next day. So she never learned any lesson and they are both stupid. The devil goes back to his brother.

Artistry was okay besides the girls hair. The ending was extremely weird and disappointing so was the whole thing.

I was dedicated to following this story and this author while it was regularly being updated. I even reread it two or three times. While the ending was not the best i have seen it left me satisfied.

This was enjoyable the first time around then I reread it and actually noticed that it was bad in some places. First of all I'm not one to complain about art style so that s out. Second of all the characters are pretty much comparable to her other stories the " strong " female lead , the jerk of a male lead that is always stronger than the female lead .i put strong in parenthesis because what good is that attribute if most of the she is going to be a damsel in distress. Now what I really didn't like in particular was
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
that the main guy wanted to change her when she really for his reasons didn't need to be changed.

this manga is filled with rather unreasonable and stupid people. There is no one redeeming in here, and it is not a realistic portrayal of the world. Dumbity-dumb dumb. Not gonna waste my time on this one.
