Funny writing during downtime and plenty of mythological superweapons during fight scenes. What could go wrong?
Pretty much everything.
The story obviously doesn't take itself seriously but the writing and choice of words makes it sound as if this is a dark, grim world. The characters are all cliche shounen archetypes. And all the fight scenes basically boil down the main character (or his love interest) pulling a last minute turnaround victory through sheer willpower (protip: having your face smashed by a supernaturally strong and fast metal shield is not something you can humanly withstand.)
