Likeable

It's really hard for me to think of this as a GL. The whole lack-of-penis thing isn't revealed until the very last chapter, and even then the love interest's femaleness is treated as if it were some kind of embarrassing rash. No, it's really just another badly-drawn, formulaic shoujo. But badly-drawn and formulaic doesn't necessarily mean unreadable. The Secret Garden is a solidly likeable story, great for any fan of the shoujo romance genre and especially for those of us with Takarazuka fetishes.

First off, I'm a fan of yuri.
However, this is horrible, trite, predictable and formulaic. While better executed than what one would ordinarily expect of the endless soap operas that are shoujo manga, it decisively averts any true depth by overloading the bare plot (?) with the usual cliches.

For yuri fans: skip.
For shoujo fans: if you've nothing better to read.

This was actually very good...

This was actually a very sweet love story and very good. I enjoyed it a lot and thought the romance was actually very progressive and believable and the theme of finding your true calling was convincing as well. So, I think this is going to be another of my favourite stories. And if you enjoy sweet romances and care not for gender stereotypes, go ahead and read this.

... and at that time I must admit I didn't like it much for "obvious" reasons. I don't know whats changed my mind since then, but this time I enjoyed it far more. Although it was a "not-acceptable" or a "weird" kind of love, I believe this proves (more than most romantic mangas) what real love is. Take it from one that hates the romance genre lol.

and let me say that over these past 3 years i've read more than 1000+ manga (not kidding), this story continue to stay inside my heart. It affected me in a way not many manga these days do. And at that time i was quite against shoujo-ai, yet i still loved the story.

I can see a number of people rating it badly, come one guys/gals, give this manga a fair chance. Don't rate it bad just because it turns out to be leaning on the "not-acceptable" side, read and rate the story for the PLOT, CHARACTERS, NOT the gender whatsoever. Gosh, people these days.

Name a manga that either completed scanlation, and i will tell you about it. I am confident with my manga reading. Manga these days does not give me a painful but "doki doki" feeling like this.
