Description
This is the sequel to the manga GTO and this takes place directly after the Teshigawara arc.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
After guiding the infamous Tokyo Kissho Academy through a crash-course of his unique brand of life-lessons, a battered and bruised Eikichi Onizuka takes a well-deserved trip to his hometown of sorts, a typically quiet surfers paradise called Shonan. Unfortunately, with child neglect and abuse becoming a global phenomenon the self-proclaimed GTO (Great Teacher Onizuka) quickly finds himself back in the saddle for what he hopes is a painless two-week long field trip with some teens in need. And while Onizuka's curriculum may not rely on the reading, writing and arithmetic that is common in most classrooms, he has more than a few good lessons in personal development, fisticuffs and fun to teach a new generation of trouble teens.

Volume 9 has some extra stories not translated yet.

Not good, which is sad

Shounan Junaigumi is bad, GTO itself is really good but lost steam in the second half and all Fujisawa Tohru´s other mangas are mediocre to bad so my opinion is that he sold his soul to the devil, wrote 12+ top notch GTO volumes, lost steam afterwards and has been going steadily downhill since. I guess that he wanted to regain his lost glory and decided to do this "side-quell" and it is just so booing and ridiculous. The characters are cardboard cutouts compared to the prequel, the story is very predictable/melodramatic and it is impossible to have so many crazy adventures in two weeks or build the "deep" and life changing bounds Onizuka establishes here with the kids.
A one Volume epilogue to GTO would have been amazing to tie everything up but now we got 3 spin offs without any direction and there is now more bad GTO content than there is good to begin with so the first half of the original series will seem like a fluke in a few years. Why? Because Tohru decided to do another side-quell just after "finishing" Shonan but i stopped reading after the first volume and Onizuka is now sadly dead to me.
At least the art is nice but read Angel Densetsu (10/10) instead which never overstayed it´s welcome and represent the perfect school life manga to me.

as of chapter 37, vastly inferior to the prequel

Reasons for it being vastly inferior:
1:1 Miyabi copy that already gets converted in very few chapters
Onizuka'a crazyness no longer feels as funny as in part 1. Nothing so far was nearly as good as the average crazy stunts he pulled in part 1, not even to speak of the big ones. It's nearly only beating people up now.

props to: principal's dog, he's great.

Weak reflection of GTO

Kind of it reminds me GTO anime were strayed off from manga and took trivial problems, escalated them to the size of elephant and then sorted them in a ridiculous way.
Character development is super fast not even close to GTO, were sometimes it took volumes for a kid to rehabilitate, while here it doesn't even take 3 pages to reform a suicidal girl back onto tracks.
Even disconcering the fact that it has super fast development, it's too predictable as well. Some stories seem to be directly copied from GTO.
Sure it's only a side story, but even side stories can be made into very decent stuff, while it doesn't even seem that Fujisawa Tohru has tried to invent smth original, but simply decided to live off from the fan hordes.

Things that make this series great:

Onizuka up to his old tricks + New Characters + New Setting

= New GTO saga = Possible New GTO Anime Series!
(then again they should have continued the original anime another 50 episodes...)

I just hope to god that this series lasts more than 14 chapters.
