i kinda saw it being discontinued comming cause even though the art was great, the story was lacking bigtime, i mean the whole time i felt like not only was the story going nowhere but that there was no reason for the main lead to have his power. his shutter eye power was the main reason i started to watch this cuz i thought the story would start out normal but later on change in to a battle of people with different unique abilities, but in the end he mostly used it for small stuff and a occasional fight or two, all in all this is another good idea and art that got wasted

I read the one-shot first because it was labeled as chapter zero on another site. Sanada, the photographer was a much more interesting and unique character in the one-shot compared to the series; the flow of the one-shot was also faster and more action-y. It felt like the author was trying to convey the same story with the series as with the one-shot but tried to spread a limited amount of goodness to fill two volumes worth of material. Some of the gaps were filled with slightly cliché-ish high school manga material and is not as original.

I enjoyed meeting some of the other characters introduced in the series however. Yamato the misunderstood delinquent; Ueno the advisor: These characters would not have been able to fit into the fast pace of the one-shot. (Matsuri the love rival seems kind of forgettable though.) There are also a few interesting events in the series such as Sanada's off day and the contest for the club room.

The one-shot was excellent. The series, while only okay, is still a fun read.

Fatal Error

I chanced upon this book only 2 months before it was canceled. When I read the first chapter, I felt that it was good enough to pique my interest, and so I continue and breezed through the available 6 chapters. There was an arc or story at first, which revolved around how the main male character tried to get enough people to form his photography club. At the same time, there was an ongoing love/hate friendship between him and the main female character. But after the club was form, the story spiraled downwards into random story territory. No more story arcs. Also, the progress of the relationship between the 2 main characters remained the same every week. It's little wonders that it was canceled.

If you are pondering whether or not to spend some time on this 2 volume title, I would suggest that you read the first 6 chapters, and then jump straight to chapters 16 to 18. That's the final arc, and it actually manages to round up the story beautifully. It's okay not to bother with the chapters in between, and still be able to enjoy the ending.

There's another note I want to point out is. This title, or rather, this author doesn't know what age group (readers) he wants to target. The premise is silly but fun, and have a little shonen (fighting) feel to it, featuring a very strong pair of main characters, physically speaking. But then sometimes, the stories give off a serious feel, what with the bad guys taking the girls hostage and having implied sexual assaults in a non-comedic light. It really leaves a bad taste in my mouth when one minute I'm laughing at a comedic scene, and the next I'm looking at a serious scene where the bad guys are surrounding a girl and threatening to do adult things to her.

I read the one-shot (chapter 0) after I've read the first chapter, which is the start of the story. Chapter 0 is essentially a prototype of chapter 1, being that they have the same plots, but the details are different. Or you can look at it this way. Chapter 0 is what the author originally have in mind, and Chapter 1 is what he revised after receiving comments from the public or editors.

Here's the most important difference in the 2 chapters. In chapter 0, the main female lead is assaulted by a gang who are planning on taking adult pictures of her and more, but the main male lead saves her. In chapter 1, the same female lead is assaulted by a gang who are trying to get her to go out for some fun with them, but the male lead saves her.

Plainly, the two chapters are targeting two different age group just by having a different incident, which means the author toned down the seriousness of his original idea and set down a standard for the title. However, in chapter 7 - 8, the author once again returned to his original idea by having 2 bad guys forcing themselves onto a girl, before having the main male save her.

It was at this point that I realized this author is being forced to tone it down. Frankly, after reading that chapter, I was ready to drop this book. Not because of the story or characters, but because I feel that the author was having his creativity restrained by outside pressures, and also because he seemed like he has problems balancing the comedy and drama.

Let's hope the author is able to do what he wants in his next work and properly identify exactly what kind of readers he wants to attract. In summary, for the story and art, I'm giving this a 7 out of 10. I would recommend this book to people who are able to adapt between comedy and drama in the same chapter easily. If that person is you, then you'll be able to enjoy a unique and touching story about friendships that is also accompanied by a few occasional funny scenes.

The oneshot was pretty good and alot of attention. But I'm sure alot were interested to see what type of plot the mangaka would come up with in a shounen. After the first 6, probably after the first 3 chapters, people began losing interest because it wasnt what they expected it to be after reading the oneshot and this is the outcome. Even I wanted it cancelled after the first 4-5 chapters because I was disappointed greatly at the direction the manga was going. Characters were cliche and boring. The 'introducing the characters' chapters were boring. The 'good guys' stopping 'bad guys' were boring. The story overall could have been alot better and lasted a good 11+ volumes with the right plot and fanbase, but the mangaka lost that when he tried to appeal more to what he thought the fans wanted to see.

Not a must read, but if want to see what all the fuss is about check it out. It started to get better in volume two. Sadly, its also when it ended.

can see why it got cancelled

Cancelled and I can see why. The beginning was good with an original premise but soon it just begun to fill up with cliches oevr cliches with repeated actions each and avery chapter so that by 6th chapter or so you become pretty tired of it. At first the protagonist seems a bit different but then you realise that he is the same old protagonist with a bit of power and thats it. The girl is cute but again does the same thing each and every chapter which is kicking the protagonist, getting angry and at the end becoming a bit awed by the protagonist. The characters truly resulted in the downfall of this manga. Just not worth reading this one.

the plot has shown some signs of not being so cliche as of late, but you have to get through the first few chapters, which are really brutal with whiny preachy unlikable characters. hopefully things pick up for the better. art isnt bad.

Well, I read the One Shot and Chapter one. It's a manga different from what I usually read. But it's a good manga for the ecchi genre. I hope we have more fights, like in chapter one and hope the autor return to the humor he used in the one shot. I think it's too early to do a deep analysis, but up to now, I've liked it.
Ah, the One Shot is better than chapter one.

When I read the oneshot for the first time, I was very impress by the story, as well as its characters. It simply flesh out the story and gives the characters some personality, specifcally Saneda, the protagonist, who at least anticipates Niko's reaction, and has a personality that is somewhat rare for a shonen manga.

I am very please that Lock On! has become a full-fledge series on WSJ for 2010, and hopefully, more chapters are to come during its stay.
