Welcome to the only shounen manga that starts in a Fashion Prison in Florida. This series crosses the fine line between Shounen & Jousei genres.

Quite a few contradictions in the first volume. Her Elf lawyer informs her that she can't wear a uniform in court, which is silly because no one in that prison was wearing a uniform. She keeps saying the pendant broke her fingernail, even though it didn't touch her nail & cut her fingertip. Green Dolphin jail is introduced as a co-op prison with slightly more men. This is contradicted latter when Jolyne asks if it's a women's prison & is informed that all the men are just women on hormone treatment.

Araki, much like Yoshihiro Togashi, has a great disdain for stereotypical moe girly-girls, which is not surprising looking on his past Jojo heroines; a stone cold deadbeat mom/hardass coach, a bossy psycho yandere, & a jr high school mafia chick. In Stone Ocean, Araki wants to get across right away that Jolyne is a crass girl with a dark past.

Some people believe that all of Araki's men look like women, while others believe all of his women look like men. I'm in the latter camp. This has never been more true than it is with Hermes Costello. I fully believe that with Hermes, Araki had created a male character in both body, name, & personality, then had him create fake breasts by stuffing a cavity in his chest with hidden cash, & passing his goatee off as a tattoo, then saying "you're a woman now." I'm not sure if this is an example of a transwoman / transman played straight, or if Araki is just that bad at drawing women. (To be fair, Minami Ozaki & Otomo Katsuhiro are on the same boat).

We're getting into the situation where no matter how crazy the character designs are, they're starting to look recycled from prior seasons. Gwess is an especially vicious & cruel woman who is an excellent example of a villain protagonist. She looks like Rule 63 Mista, who already looked like Kira 2.0 from D.I.U. & evokes strong memories of Cioccolata from V.A. Anasui looks like the lovechild of Abacchio & Diavolo from V.A. Foo Fighters aka Atroe, is Plankton from Spongebob Squarepants piloting a dead corpse. Not sure if this qualifies as a zombie or undead.

Jolyne receives an amulet from her father that must have a piece of the Egyptian Arrows in it, as she cuts her finger on it & receives Spooky Spaghetti powers. Looking at her outfit & thinking about her ability, you realize Araki has probably been reading Spider-Man comics. While she did not kill the man she was framed for killing, she does subconsciously (?) use her ability to outright murder one of the two people who framed her.

When Jotaro shows up at the prison to visit, he looks younger than he did in D.I.U. where he looked younger than he did in S.C. Dadtaro ages in reverse.

Because Araki hasn't sexualized a man in days, the very first male stand user is introduced ass first, butt-naked in the shower. He also puts his pants on backwards.
