Calling this slow would be an understatement.

This isn't slow. Slow implies forward momentum.

Before you read this understand there are 85+ chapters. It has been ongoing for 8+ years. This is covering 1.5+ years of in manga time.

Nothing has happened.

Nothing.

They can't even call each other by their first names. Readers have been supporting this thing for 8+ years. Nothing. The protagonists are in their late teens and have been dating for 1.5+ years. They don't touch. They dont move forward. Nothing happens. There is no payoff.

By reading this manga you get turned into the male protagonist. Emotionally broken and willing to settle for the tiniest scraps which you'll gobble up with gleeful tears as the outside world looks in at you and wonders what went wrong in your life that you would allow yourself to stoop so low.

10/10

This manga has a strangely interesting premise, but the progression of the characters is just to slow. Even after MANY chapters, (like 85+) they still haven't shared a kiss. It's like the author is trying to give their readers blue balls. If you do not have much patience, I suggest you turn to another manga.

Nice Start, But Then Turned Slow

This manga was originally pretty interesting but all good things must come to an end, for maybe 20+ chapters there has been no progress, as good as the manga is though most romance (or should I say harem romance) could really take a lesson from this one.

I just hope the author reveals that urabe is actually an alien or something (lol) of the sort so it can end, seriously it should have just ended a WHILE ago, now its just so slow........

About the current state of things...

It feels like lately the moving force of the series are the secondary characters. Beside the author waste the potential of any situation when the so-called couple are together for like 5 minutes. Can´t the author make them spend more time together or have a chance meeting somewhere and from there do something together? What the heck is he (or the author) waiting to make a move? Akira should have learned how to deal with Mikoto by now. He is simple-minded and boring.
Mikoto lately doesn´t do the panty-cissors thing because Akira is more honest with her. I think she would agree to do "lovers" things, like hold hands, If Akira were more proactive.
The only ones that know about Akira-Mikoto are Oka and Suwano. I don´t know why Suwano would be interested in him. Because he has a girlfriend? She think he is cute? We know for Mikoto was "that voice inside her head" that told her he will be her first sex partner (although by now that premise has lost its impact).

They have been "going out" for several months, so how much will the couple (or the author) wait till they act like a couple? Like want to be together outside school, just talking. Mikoto's personality and mysterious behavour is not a excuse anymore.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now it ended, and
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
it was totally anticlimactic. It felt more like a chapter with plot than an actual ending. We are left with promises about the main characters staying together and doing couple-like things eventually.

It needs to make some progress

I enjoyed this at 1st, but after 75 chapters, the couple still doesn't seem like a real couple in love. There has been pretty much zero growth in their relationship, they still keep the relationship a secret and if he tries to get too close, she still breaks out the scissors. For a story about that's suppose to be about a high school couple, there is nothing romantic about it at all. However, if you enjoy slice of life with no real plot, this is for you.

I honestly dont know why I keep reading this...

The last arc was meaningless. I'm tired of fillers there's no couple/character development.
It WAS a good manga long time ago but now it´s just fillers and meaningless arcs. It lacks professionalism from the mangaka/editor/publisher

Nice, but should have ended quite some time ago

The boyfriend is a nonentity, and the strength of the girlfriend's character - doesn't quite disappear - but stops coming up and covering up.

Currently at chapter 71 at the end of a long and rather wonky amateur movie arc - and that didn't pay adequate dividend. Dropping.

Weird.

Like, it's really weird. Over time, I got mentally adapted to the 'exchanging saliva' thing, but seriously it was just absurd. There were moments where I couldn't stop smiling, and moments where I felt for the characters, and I guess, in conclusion this manga was pretty darn amusing. But you know...it's one of the akwardest manga I've ever read.

I'll never no why the mangaka kept adding new potential rivals in the story. There was some weird ecchi and some repetitive jokes the mangaka kept putting in. I can see why this manga has its share of fans, despite its ridiculous plot.

Begining is nice but now after 60 chapters it's boring

Art:
Art is better then average. If the mangaka would make more of this cool dream pictures it would be a blast. But i suppose it take to long to draw them and he ended this. What a pity.

The Story:
Well the beginning was interesting and the characters seemed quite nice. I read the manga whit pleasure. BUT after 60 chapters and about 2 years in-story time there is happening NOTHING, ZERO, NADA. It feels like there are a lot chapters in this manga just to have more volumes to sell.

First, i hate this stupid habit to give the main male characters nosebleed every time he get the slightest excitement. He should go rather today than tomorrow to the hospital because he could bleed to death while having a wet dream.
Second, i think it's something like unprofessional from the mangaka if he/she present me story without any character development and without any climax in main arc.
As i wrote the two main characters in this manga have no character development what ever. If there is any character development than that the main male character gets dumber.
After about in-time 2 years the "lover" didn't kiss (not even once), not holding hands, not going on dates (3,5 dates/doing something together in 2 years), not doing anything together (besides their routine), not know much about each other (even the reader don't know almost anything about main female character past or family). All they do is see and talk a little to each other for some few minutes per weekday on their way back home from school and he taste her drool while doing so.
Bluntly speaking the story is a "love" story between a frigid, unsocial, violent to objects (threaten her boyfriend doing so) and TOTALLY disinterested in anything that deepens the relation girl and a nose bleeding, dumb and cowardly boy. What the manga shows is their daily routine and the things that from to time broke their routine. A have my difficulties to call this a relationship between man and woman. It feels more like they are only 11-12 years old rather than 17-18.

Conclusion:
The 2 first volumes are really nice and you would like to read more (like me), but you will get only disappointed. There is no story in sight, the story got lost while new chapters, after the 2 first volumes, are made.

Quirky, slightly kinky, but ultimately sweet

This manga has a lot of common elements, but does a very good job of twisting them into something new. The art has an old-school feel to it, with none of the trappings of moe influence. The story is a bit eccentric, even a bit kinky at times, but the romance between our leading lady, Urabe, and her faithful boyfriend, Tsubaki is one of the sweetest romances in manga.

I have a contrary opinion on Tsubaki being a typical dense, spineless coward that won't put the moves on a willing girl. Yes, Urabe was the one that approached him and started the relationship, but she is also the one that is holding it back. He does try to move things forward, like when he

hugs her spontaneously.
What is his reward? Panty Scissors! At one point he asks
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
if he can put his arm around her shoulder?
Panty Scissors! However, it is clear that Urabe does have genuine feelings for him. When she
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
accidentally cuts him with her panty scissors she is absolutely beside herself, then she won't tell him what the dream she had that had her so off balance was, but admits that, while Tsubaki is a pervert, she is a bit like that too...
My favorite parts of the manga are when the two of them grow closer as a couple or are caring for each other. For instance, the arc where she is home sick, and he
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
leaves his school shirt as a substitute is sooooo sweet, and sooooo sexy!
wink

I started reading this because I saw that the anime was coming out this spring and I wanted to see what it was about, knowing that it was a seinen manga in the same magazine as my all time favorite: Oh My Goddess! Three days later I was wishing the next chapter would come out NOW! It turned into one of my favorites. If it wasn't for the slightly excessive underage nudity, I would give it a 10...
