Storyline is a Wreck

I stopped reading after chapter 165 because the storyline was a complete wreck. There were so many change of hearts and alliance-flip-floppings (see spoilers below for more details).

The Kogarasumaru was viewed as the most prosperous/strongest team. The team is carried by two members, Ikki and Agito. The others were relatively weak in comparison to the Kings (with the exception of Kazu, who is inconsistently comparable to the Kings at times). This wouldn't be a problem if this team wasn't viewed as the strongest team. Finally, Onigiri's battle strength is motivated by perversion. Without it, he has no battle strength whatsoever.I feel that he should be left out from the team because his lack of motivation to compete.

In regards to the change of hearts and flip-flopping:

The Sleeping Forest was initially was thought of as neutrally good, switched to enemy when Simca is assaulted, more adversarial when the Kilik's story was told, and back to neutrally good when Sora revealed his betrayal. Similarly with Genesis...

This was my favorite manga when it started. It was the best sports manga I had ever read, based on a brilliant idea (roller-skates with engines).
By now it has become a boring shounen ski-fi fighting manga with superhuman powers in it and has completely nothing to do with sports.

The current "ship" arc started more then 1.5 year ago, and almost nothing happened so far even though it's a weekly manga. I hope it's gonna change in the future.

Many say that it's hard to understand because of the physics and chemistry in it, well a can't confirm that, I haven't noticed it yet.
The art is excellent, the story is good.

Looking at the whole picture it's not as bad as it sounds. It's worth a shot, especially if you're looking for a manga with good character developement and many twists in it!

Justified Hesitantness

From the get go I was tenuous about starting this and immediately my doubt was justified. From the get go: a weak story, weak characters, and WAY too much superfluous ecchi fanservice made it a real chore to read; and from what I've read here it only got worse. Honestly, I'm glad I dropped this; saved me a whole lot of wasted time.

This series is awesome, the best science fiction i have ever read. (At least much better than the crap like dragon ball z & gt). Really great logic. Mostly authors just grow stuff up. The techniques which are mentioned here are based on natural phenomenons.
You need a lot of IQ and physics and chemistry knowledge to understand this. If you do not understand what the author is trying to say then this manga is not meant for you.

PS: Do not read if you do not have good knowledge of physics and chemistry. It will become more confusing on later stages.

Worth A Shot

I started off watching the anime first, which was amazing. And I admit, when I started the manga, I got lost and confused - but I still read it hoping maybe it'll fan out. It did.

In the beginning, the author is building on the characters, the techniques, and the bonds between everyone. After much battling as many shounen manga have, eventually there is an ultimatum - one event that flips everything and everyone into mad work out routines and etc. Here is where people get thrown off. Because the author babbles on about physics and the law of whatever and the past, many people, including myself, get lost. But if you just go with it, you'll realize that it's not all that chaotic. To be frank, the author is probably just rambling about it to fill up the speech bubbles, but the art itself is great.

Another thing that throws a lot of people off is the sudden Obama character and politics. Well, in every shounen, there's a bad guy trying to rule the world and then suddenly you meet new characters that band together with the protagonist to take him down. Obama is just another character aiding the take down. The fact that he's the President shows how bad the villain is and how important ATs have become. There isn't any actual politics.

Air Gear definitely isn't a manga that you would expect is easy to follow because there is just so much information on each character. Each individual has a background story that goes deeper than most other shounens. It's clear that the author consistently builds on it which makes the story compelling. However, most people will see this as a scattered storyline bouncing back and forth between the past and present.

So why did I give it an 8.5? Precisely because I am one of the readers that did get lost reading this. I do admit that the author could have organized it more fluently, but hey, I still ended up understanding it. Maybe that was his/her intentions all along, but it's a turn off if the readers don't get it.

Either way, I believe everyone who reads Air Gear or will read Air Gear should brace themselves for a rocky story. Just be assured that there is a clear plot amidst the rocky-ness.

I loved it at first but now it's just confusing as hell. Not saying it's bad or anything but you will have to think really hard when reading any of the newer chapters.

It's good. Hands down. Don't want to get into detail. But Oh Great! is a manga God. The manga has great art, story-line, character development, drama, comedy (but it has been slacking I do admit) and action.

Really, this manga isn't as bad as you guys make it out to be. I will agree that the girls somehow always ending up naked is getting old and that getting obama involved was just silly, but the story, while complicated, if you can follow it, is actually very good and original.

I watched the anime a long time ago, and tried to pick up from where it left off but failed at following the story so i gave up. Picked the manga up from scratch about two weeks ago, read everything up to the latest chapter in notime.

It's like RaeBabeeyx3 said, its different if you have the option of reading chapter after chapter and piecing the story together.

Epic. EDIT: GTFO DONT READ

yes, this totally messes up your mind, but i think its picked up again and everything is starting to unfold. actually, its better than all the shounen crap out there. i think people dont like it coz they had to wait for weeks for every chapter which makes the connection between each chapter disappear, whereas I, didn't wait. I started from where the anime left off till the latest chapter now. I must say, it's pretty good when you've already got the next chapter in your hands.

EDIT: DO NOT READ THIS MANGA IT WILL FUCK UP YOUR BRAIN AND MAKE SURE THAT EVERYTHING IS JUST PURE FUCKERY UNTIL YOU ULTIMATELY LOSE TRACK OF WHAT IS GOING ON lol I think it exceeded logic...... Anyways it was a shitty ending but thank god it ended already

This manga started out pretty nicely, and all the characters look good. HOWEVER, it went downhill as it continues. And now, it can be considered rubbish. Seriously, what's about introducing Obama into the series?! It totally loses it's original focus. Eww.
