Things get explained. Not within the first chapter, but later on, they do, and to me, it makes sense by now.

The 16 year old mayor?
Spoiler (highlight to view)
She's a demon, actually.

The ordinary guy?
Spoiler (highlight to view)
...has the ability to send demons back to the demon world.

Also, quite obviously not a harem series, since Hime seems to be the only girl interested in Akina.

I've liked this title for quite a while now - Yasuda Suzuhito has proved he isn't just a unique artist, but has the ability to write a decent story too. It revolves around a small group of individuals ranging from fully human to fully demon who preserve the peace in a special town built so that the aforementioned types of people can all live together. There's action, a little romance and of course the Supernatural in this story, along with enough comedy to keep it fairly light.
The only problem for me at the moment is that the newest scanlation group seem to have resurrected Bill&Ted to do the translating, as there's a 'Totally' on almost every page. If this overuse of slang doesn't bother you, it's otherwise fine, but it's being published in English (albeit slowly) for those who prefer to wait.

At the time of writing, an OVA series has been announced which will start over - ignoring the first anime series, and will stick closely to the manga this time. It's due to start near the end of 2010.

I agree with the underdevelopment. It goes a little too fast. my first impression was "what series is this a sequel to?", but it isn't so confusing that I can't put up with it. So I like the storyline, even if I hate how fast it's going. It feels as though you are dropped into the beginning of a new arc in some long weekly manga. It just starts off. There are random characters that aren't explained.

But the idea is one i like, and it is engaging. The fast pace could be a plus for some people too.

Yeah, don't get turned off by the pool scene, it's not like that at all...

Not very attractive at the beginning (I thought "another harem ecchi again?", turned out not to be so) but everything sort of meshed well together after going through 1 volume.

An under-appreciated piece of work,

I've just stumbled on to this manga by pure luck, and I have to say, I am quite surprised it is not that well known. The start is a bit sudden I have to say, but it's the way the plot works, the story first just shows all the characters involved on their usual day(which by normal reality standards aren't that usual) then progresses to each of the character's personality. It's not like a sudden, flash back to a character's past, it's just showing a part of their personality during that current time while giving hints to what happened in the character's past. All the while still contributing to the plot line.

The characters themselves are quite different, each character has their own ability and purpose, no one character can be able to do everything on their own. I guess in a way, that's another aspect of this manga that I like, the characters each have their own weaknesses and they can't win alone.

Overall, I'd say, don't be fooled by the first few chapters and the description. Everything will be explained as you read on and then the characters would start to make more sense. Though, I still don't get why people take this manga as a harem when it starts out, the romance doesn't play a big part in this story at all- it's more like a family and friends kind of thing.

Now it's just stalling

This manga has a well thought-out backstory that reveals itself at its own pace, which is good. However, I can't remember how many times it's decided to reiterate that premise ad nauseum now, and this is compounded by the fact that some time periods are told and retold from multiple POVs. Further, there is very, very little plot progression recently and the arcs are formulaic.

The strength of this manga though lies in its ability to invoke a sense of ambience that's most noticeable in those peaceful chapters in-between arcs, when a character stands on the Nana-gou and looks up at the sky. I really liked the time that Kotoha said
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
I will protect this town, so that the summer I love can come again.
on a bright summer afternoon. I kept reading this manga for moments like that.

The characters are good. Tbh I hate (Gary Stu) Akina and Hime is bland but I love Kotoha and everybody else is slightly endearing, if somewhat cheesy. The recent reveal about Kotoha's past is really disappointing because it doesn't reveal what we couldn't already guess and the main conflict doesn't last long enough to be compelling.

I'm dropping this manga but I'll probably come back when it ends. I'm just disappointed by Kotoha's past right now.

Lame first chapters. I almost fell asleep reading it, it was rather boring. The stories were as light as cotton candy. No story tension at all. The art is way ordinary, nothing striking. But it has promise. Sometimes the light jokes work. The girl with cat ears is cute. It's rather underdeveloped, like why is there a 16 year old mayor? That should be answered in the first chapters, not later since it's so weird already. And the way they set it up is like she inherited the job. And what's the point of an ordinary guy with 3 girls with powers? Smells like obvious harem service to me. But yeah, it could have promise, I hope...

Characters don't cohere. Storylines don't cohere. Art doesn't cohere. Read 5 chapters. Saw a comment that it gets better after the first volume, but I can't make it that far.
