Description
From Aerandria Scans:

Takamura Uru takes her mother’s remarriage as an opportunity to strike out on her own and begin a part time job. Filled with the thought of “If only I could make someone happy…”, she begins working at Café Bohneur, a shop famous for cakes; but the employees, Ichirou-kun and Shindou-san, turn out to be incredibly unsociable. Wonderful and Charming

This manga is a lot more light-hearted than other popular ones like Skip Beat, and that's one of the reasons I love it so much. Uru is absolutely an adorable protagonist that you can't help but love. Shindou and Ichirou are the weirdos that are somehow irresistibly lovable too. The side stories are cute as well, those involving Jiro and Aizawa and Arimoto. The light comedy cheers you up, including the touching undertones about the most important things in life: relationships, love, friendship, and learning to value yourself and what you do. I think that's the most important thing I have to say about this manga. It's something that has a very simple plot, yet there are things in there that touches your heart and makes you smile.

I love this manga, and I could read it a million times if I had to! smile

Any manga with a character like Ichirou is worth reading

None of the characters were annoying, and while the scene almost never changes, the mangaka still manages to tell a convincing romance story with other elements. The main character is kind of dense and oblivious, but she's fun, and she doesn't blush or cry a lot, which I always hate in a female lead.

I have to say, though, the one thing I really love about this manga is Ichirou. If he weren't a part of it, I'd probably have rated it a 6 instead of an 9. He's just so funny, with his random comments, and how he always falls asleep. Definitely worth reading if only for that one character.

I don't especially like the other male lead (he's too generic and not very funny) but I don't mind him. He helps round out the cast, but I do wish he weren't the person Uru is most likely going to end up with. If she were to end up with Ichirou, my rating would have probably gone up to a 12 (lol). Not that there isn't still a chance she could end up with Ichirou. But it's unlikely.

As for other characters, they are all pretty funny. I especially like the relationship between Uru and her mother (who doesn't act like a mother at all). And her step-dad is pretty great too. And her best friend. And the store's manager. And-well, basically the whole cast. They're just a bunch of hilarious weirdos. Who can resist reading about a bunch of hilarious weirdos?

Anyway, interesting characters, decent plot for a shoujo manga (not really going anywhere, but most shoujo mangas develop more in relationships than in plot lines), decent artwork. And the best character in the world (Ichirou). In short, you won't regret reading this.

when a friend recommended it to me and told me about the characters, I thought it was strange: the title name sounded familiar, but how could I have missed out on the funny characters?

Turns out I had read the summary to this many times and have found it bland. When I read the manga on her recommendation, I loved it!! Just a HILARIOUS manga all-around with lovable characters- the inhumanly strong heroine with two funny hunks: one unsociable but nice and the other a total narcoleptic. plus a few more guys from the rival shop. what more can a girl ask for?

Adorable and funny

The story lagged for a while and the ending was rushed but I spent such good times reading this manga, it was often funny, at times hilarious and always sweet.

The characters are total weirdos far from the clichés and all the more likable and personable for it: Uru has freaky strength and reassures people who point out that she's sitting with her legs wide open while wearing a skirt that "it's ok, she's wearing underwear", Shindou is hot-headed and unsociable and really likes to hit people, and Ichirou is an expressionless guy who falls asleep when he's hungry and can only be woken up by having food shoved in his mouth.

I'm not usually one for fluff but this was really adorable, most of the recurring gags still had me laughing (literally out loud!) even after the umpteenth time the sense of timing was that good, and the chibi faces were simply excellent.

The multiplication of love interests was a bit too much and unnecessary
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
especially concerning Ichirou, his character was already fleshed out and interesting he didn't need to be the 100th guy inexplicably in love with Uru, especially as he ended up being reduced to only that by the end (I'll also never get over his new haircut, his ruffled hair looked so great ^^')
just like the weird ~drama in the end.
That what little plot there was was simplistic and focused on a few characters + extras was what made the manga's charm, too bad the author lost sight of that towards the end to release more volumes.

Still, it's the kind of lighthearted, feel-good read that'll lift your spirits, make you smile and laugh, your very own Café Bonheur smile

I must admit that I began to read Shiawase Kissa after I read the comment from asianromance. And yes, I too have read the summary too many times and I never thought I'd love it so much! It's a very cute manga. Uru is a very sincere girl with a cheerful face/expressions that seemed to have captured everyone's hearts. Plus, each character's antics are so funny that I can't help but laugh out loud even when I re-read the chapters. 13 Volumes and ongoing? Hopefully it will turn out good in later volumes/chapters.

It start with good story and character but after volume 8 or so it became kind of mehh, it is not bad it just drag too long with the author introducing too many character that actually not used too much. Also after awhile the author keep hinting bad thing and introducing new antagonist but it was done really badly, because how it resolve so quickly, it make the whole thing looks lame and not as big as the author want it to looks.

I also doesn't like the slow romance at all it's feel so forced it is sooo slow and suddenly going at full speed and then suddenly poof its over. Honestly if you want slow romance I would recommend Taiyou no Ie, this one done really badly, but regardless it is still fun manga to read.

It's cute but it wasn't my cup of tea though. I thought it was unnecessarily long and the plot went way off from where it started. That is to say, some of the stuff that happened later kinda came out of nowhere to me. The "plot" appeared too late (I would seriously say the main conflict starts at chap. 51) for my liking and the ending left more questions than it answered. Also, most conflicts were so predictable and episodic, I had to skip them.

This manga would have been a lot better as a simple comedic love-polygon type story.

I love how this manga starts off completely pure and innocent, but has a slight dark side to the story. It was nice to read a manga that isn't always happy. I kinda wished that there was a little more darkness to it though to bring a little more realism.

Every single character is somehow related to one another, as well the events that occurred in the manga. It makes the story really predictable.. so that was a turn off for me.

The one thing I did not like..were the romantic developments.. They were kind of awkward and a little choppy, especially Shindou and Uru's. It felt like it was just missing a few monologues/dialogues. Actually some parts of the story were a bit awkward, but it's still pretty good. After a couple of chapters, it didn't really have a main plot, it just introduced more characters with mini stories. Then it gradually started having a plot after some character appearances since they all have a connection to one another. It all started to make sense
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
and everything was resolved, but the last chapter was disappointing..especially since you don't get to see Shindou's face at all. -_____-" And the fact that Ichirou, Kenshi, Sou, and Tsukishiro are all still stuck in a one sided love after 3 years is depressing! You'd think at least two of them would move on. We also never got to see more about the Manager and his life, is it supposed to stay as a mystery forever? GAH! THERE WERE SO MANY THINGS LEFT UNKNOWN. /sobs
The ending was rushed, and left me wanting more..

Overall, I love this story and my rating is a bit bias. I also really love how Matsuzuki drew their expressions though, it's so adorably funny. :3

Awesome manga. Questionable ending.

I still can't believe that it's actually over.
Mind you, when I say this I'm only half meaning it in terms of "It was so good that I didnt want it to end!"

Because yeah, I didnt want it to end. But I guess the mangaka did. The conclusion of the manga was very rushed, to the point where the things occurring were not even allowed to settle in before we were thrown into something else. Some things were never even settled in the first place but were conveniently forgotten as the story neared it's end. Despite this, I really did like this manga. It even had my most despised type of ending,
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Talk about cliche. The guy has to go abroad. Girl says she'll wait for him. Horribly transitioned time skip. Guy appears when girl is thinking about him. Guy and girl hug/kiss/run towards one another. End.
But I decided that this was a special case since I liked it enough. It's definitely something I'd recommend to read.
