I don't think I fully understood the story, but my take was: (Maybe a spoiler?)
I think that Kazuki (why is it spelt Kadzuki?) did what he did with Juubei at that moment specifically because he knew that Toshiki was listening in. Because he also valued Toshiki as a person and as a member of his gang, he wanted Toshiki to know what exactly the nature of his and Juubei's relationship was. And, perhaps, this would help Toshiki understand why Juubei was so very aggressive towards Toshiki and possessive towards himself. I think this DJ had a lot going on that could be expanded happily in the reader's imagination. It didn't leave me unsatisfied, though, it was a launching pad for imagination.

It was an awesome little pre-volts story. I've never read a DJ that deals with that time period. It was very believably done. The art was excellent as well: The characters had movement, beauty and alive expressions.
