I love love love this series! It's so adorable and hilarious! I have been forever laughing since I started reading this series.
The heroine is one of the kind: she's extremely dense (like many other heroines) but is athletic and knows how to take care of herself including Yoh! I really love Haruna's character <3
Koukou Debut is a must-read because of all the humour and the awesome plot

Cute light read

I've finished the series, and it's really cute. The heroine isn't as irritating as usual shoujo girls - she has a bit of backbone and even fights off some of Yoh's admirers herself and gets them to stop bullying her with him rescuing her

When their relationship grows stronger and they plan their 'overnight trip' it is absolutely hilarious!
I couldn't stop giggling out loud to myself at the embarassment between them - it really relates to anyone whose been through that first time situation!

I'm extremly fond of the characters and Haruna is a great character - you just can't help but love her after a few volumes, even when I'm a girly girl I still love her strength and determination.

My only failing is that the Yoh and Haruna act more like best friends than boyfriend and girlfriend; kisses are few and far between.
Spoiler (highlight to view)
I mean, he kisses her at the airport when he's leaving for Tokyo, and she won't see him for ages, and then sends her a text apologises for his forwardness. Man, I'd been jumping on my boyfriend if he was going away for a year!

A definite must read!

Fine by the numbers

I've heard a lot of criticism of this series to the effect that it’s all cliché…which is true; our leads are very old archetypes; the naïve, excitable girl who wants to fall in love, and the attractive but unapproachable guy who is, deep down, very kind. What make High School Debut such a good read is the slight difference in execution; Haruna is naïve, but not childish or stupid, and Yoh isn’t the jerk most aloof-types are.

With such likable and reasonably complex characters, the fairly uneventful nature of the plot is not a liability. I’d liken the series to a good sitcom, but it’s more character-based than situation-based.

There is the occasional hiccup. The second volume is fairly bad, and in fact, the series doesn’t hit its stride until volume three.

Special mention for the art. The basics are solid and there is the occasional piece of excellence; Asami is genuinely beautiful, and an actually unattractive girl appears in a later chapter (most artists settle for fake-unattractive).

A simple story, but a good one.

Don't judge this manga by it's summary

it's WAY better than the summary would let you believe. The art style is cute and the characters are very enjoyable and make you want to rout for them. It's been hard to put this one down. On more than one occasion I burst out laughing from the different situations. I could read this over and over. Give it a try!

I really wonder...

I really wonder why I like it, and I like it quite a lot. I'm not a shoujo person, and when I read shoujo, it's usually something that's different.
Here, we have a shoujo that's almost entirely a big cliche. Everything is so simple, and so typical...
Yet after reading 5 volumes and enjoying them, I still wonder "why do I like it?".
Maybe bcause it is simple, maybe I want such cute and simple romance in my life as well... I don't know~
The art style isn't special, not really pretty, too scetchy, but it's solid enough.
The characters are nice, cute, abvious, and simple.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
I like how Yoh get's embarassed, and how Haruna rescues him from the cold.

It's indeed sweet.
It's silly, simple, and sweet. I wonder if it can keep up til the end.
But for now, because I enjoy it, I'll rate it 8.

Update (2013): I never did finish it... I think I got bored around volume 6 or 7.

Koukou Debut is amazingly addictive. Sure, it’s a little silly and predictable, but it really is very cute. Haruna is absolutely hilarious. I just love her character - she’s a strong female role unlike a lot of the typical female protagonists in shoujo manga. Ah, and there are so many moments that had made me squeal/made my heart flutter with the seer cuteness. Yoh has really proved me wrong, he tries to act like he doesn’t care/cool, but he really is very kind and even a little shy. I think Haruna and Yoh really compliment each other. The only thing that has kind of bothered me so far is how everyone insults Haruna - she isn't ugly D: Anyway, if you’re looking for something fluffy and humorous, Koukou Debut is for you!

I really like Koukou Debut because it's light-hearted and touching at the same time. The romance before they main characters hooked up is pretty good too -- and it's awesome that the pairing didn't get old when they finally got together. That's rare, I think. =] Art is pretty nice, although Yoh has that perennially tired look. It's a great read.

Even though Koukou debut is terribly cliche'd, it's still lovely. The artwork is nice [even though sometimes Yoh looks tired...] and it's not too deep. I mean, even shoujo manga you read, someone has a dark past that they can't share and the girl somehow pries into it after a love that developed after 2 chapters and blah blah blah.

Koukou debut is a nice simple story, where everyone is and looks different [as in, it's not the lead girl's face with a different hairstyle on their best friend, okay]. It's a nice change, and only could I tolerate it every few manga of so. It gives off and original aura even though it's cliche'd. =]

I love this manga and would recommend it to anyone who likes cute shoujos. :]

this manga is perfect. She doesn't fall in love so easy (I mean all the girls in other mangas fall in love way too easy). The guy isn't the arrogant/jerk/d*ck type and he doesn't try to seduce every freakin' girl. Maybe that's why this story is really nice, and even if the drama it's not so dramatic...the story is so nice and funny~ I also want a couch like YOH ♥
