From Iskultrip Scans:

It is a very dark night. Under a heavy rain, a determined man sets out to track his terrified victim. The decision of Kirishima Seiichi is clear: Tonight, he will kill his wife.

A year ago, he was a happy man - a successful writer, a contented husband, and a father of a young boy... at that time, everything seemed going well for him. But such happiness had to end. The day his editor put an end to their collaboration, darkness seeped into his life faster than a bullet. A terrifying descent into hell commences, page by page of what it seems to be his last novel...

Mixed feelings

I enjoyed it (although the wife really pissed me off, what a dumb bitch) but it's super short as there is very little dialogue. I think I read the whole volume in 15 minutes. Not sure it's worth the money I paid for it. Also I am confused why the main character's notes/diary were left outside the cave, doesn't make sense to me. I like the guy's journey to insanity though

Hidden Gem

So after finishing Killing Stalking, I am now reading lots of horror mangas because I needed something to fill the void that Sangwoo and Bum left. I was browsing here when I came across this hidden gem.

First of all, look at that art. It's crazy good! The plot isn't unique. But with only 9 chapters, it ended so much better compared to the other 100+ chapters of the most popular mangas out there. It's a story of desperation, depression, and... decomposition. Literally. I am not running out of D words. HAHAHAHAHA!

I just wished we could've had the backstory of the mom (not Jun's mom), the dad, and the kid. I wanted to know how they came to the cave, but maybe that's part of the mystery. We don't know, but maybe they came there just like how Seiichi and Miki got there.

The ending was brilliant. That's all I can say in order not to spoil it.

Anyway, go and give this seinen a try. It's short, good, and worth your time. Plus, the mangaka was greatly inspired by Stephen King. He even gushed about him in the author notes. I can clearly see how Stephen King could have influenced him and I'm glad that it did.

I'm definitely gonna watch out for more works from this author.

I love Horror

This is horror, this is good horror, go read it. It has all the horror tropes. Dumb and/or horrible people, the type you'd like to and do get to see die gruesome deaths. Art bordering on realism to give the gore more taste. Gloomy atmosphere and obscuring darkness to create tension and thrills. And it all comes packaged into a short sweet story that reads more like a movie. Of course it also has the downsides that come with horror and movies. Undeveloped characters, predictability and a cliche ending. But it doesn't overstay its welcome, is evenly paced and chuck full of horror-y goodness. If you're looking for a sweet horror fix, this is a great place to start.

Great potential.

A very good short read, definitely spooky. The psychological aspect is pretty terrifying. Despite being such a short read, there is a good general awareness of what may have happened vs. what has happened. A good debate is trying understand whose fault it really is: was it the mother's fault or the father's? Or is it even anybody's? The reader is left with general information about what had happened and then is forced to take a side. We don't know who was the good and bad guy; all we know is that now it's every man to himself.

All in all, it's an okay read. I think it had great potential to be a longer read so that we can really know what happened, what reasons/choices lead up to this climax, and why/how the husband settles into his new life.

good use of flashbacks

i really really love the way the story is progressing. the way it follows the protagonist in his nightmare, and how it tied nicely with his past really heightened the insanity of the atmosphere. i love the protagonist in descent to madness. the art is good and i understand the heavy hand with ink is needed to showcase the gloomy and dark cave and his mind, though sometimes it is hard to make head or tail of what is happening. i choose to believe this is pure horror and all the illogic it entails with some of the loose ends of the story.

I Can See Stephen King Right Now, Smiling

The pacing felt a bit fast to me. Every character was laid out as being reprehensible. I get that. Yet, those small glimpses did not give me a real feel of who they are. I feel that we were supposed to empathize with each character not by their full 'character' but by their archetypal representations. The Manipulative, Controlling In-Laws, The Bitch Wife, The Bastard Husband, The Darling Son. No wonder I felt King vibes with this manga. It has the same faults as a Stephen King novel. The characters are too one-sided. Oh, well. For all its faults, I still find it very interesting. I have a soft spot for mentally unhinged characters.

The author said he was influenced by Stephen King and I can really see it in his story-telling. It feels like the kind of story or movie Stephen King or John Carpenter would write in the 1980s and 1990s. This is great in manga form because I never really was a fan of King's writing. Now if only we can get a movie in the works...

Pity it was so short. I want more.

A nice horror tale

I felt really refreshed after finishing this manga.
The art definatly fits the theme, evoking all the right emotions. You can feel the main character and all of what he goes through.
The plot is, scary, not because of the scaryness of the actions, but because of the premise of the story. It was scary how things evolved and at the end it didn't need any sort of explanation. You don't see this type of stories very often.
It's still not short of bad points. The pace didn't fit the bill, too fast for it's own good, and that reflected on the characters that only recieved a bit of development. Things are not just black and white.
Overall i give it a 7 because it's still much better than recent horror manga that i've read.

Great art, poor everything else.

All six of the stars come from the art. The mangaka really shows some great emotion and evocative panels. The rest of the manga fails to live up to the great artwork. The story starts with a man willing to murder his wife and he somehow manages to become less sympathetic from there. None of the main characters are remotely endearing. Who cares if a jerk husband and a jerk wife get butchered? The mangaka says that Stephen King is a huge influence, and the plot comes across as a Torture Porn adaptation of the King short "Lunch at the Gotham Cafe." Finally, the pacing moves way, way too fast for a horror manga. Good horror directors know to keep the protagonist's fighting back for the last act, but here it starts at almost the half-way mark. Where's the struggle? Where's the sense of desperation? Overall the manga sure looks rich, but the characters, plot, and pacing are quite bland.

what a horrible wife and father in law...no wonder he went insane
the ending will make you scratch your head a bit...i mean, a lot of questions were left unanswered. at some point i was even wondering if the woman and the child in the cave were actually real or if he's just hallucinating...
hmm it felt a bit like a cheap hollywood horror movie, the mangaka obviously tried avoiding any elaborations and used the horror genre as an excuse to do that, its nice to have a little ambiguity and all but in this case it looks like the mangaka just threw in random characters to scare the readers(which didnt work at all)....in my opinion if he focused on the plot and the psychological aspects of the story, this manga would have been much better.
well what can i say? it had potential but the mangaka didnt do a very good job with the execution of the story *shrugs*
