Loser Main Character, but..

It has potential! I like it so far. The main character, the boy, is a loser though. He's in love/obsessed with a girl who

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
couldn't give 2 shits about him, she's not really happy about them 'dating' and doesn't care if he goes with her in the museum or not. He's in love with her/obsessed and it's creepy, we are given no reason why he likes her so much but apparently they're childhood friends. He's so desperate to be with her that he just blindly charges in after her and risks his life just to be near her...and doesn't listen to reason

He's kind of likable whenever it doesn't concern the girl though. This is the only romance manga where I hope that the guy DOESN'T get with the girl, because she's kind of insufferable. She
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
turns into this goddess named ishtar when she goes into Babylon and tries to kill her friend, the main character, multiple times. at this point it's hinted that she does remember that he's her friend but she tries to kill him anyway?? She's a huge bitch who tries to kill people just because they said no to her advances.
So what is there to like about the girl anyway?

The story is interesting so far, it's based off of real mythology which is cool. although Gilgamesh is a young bishie who is a famous warrior apparently, lol you're not fooling any of us, he doesn't have any muscles and looks like he's 13. But it's interesting and I like how it's developing!

I generally dislike ancient historical settings, particularly when there's time travel involved. BUT Higuri brings her storytelling mastery to play quite well. Only a few chapters in, and I'm very involved and interested in the characters.

Basically, two modern-day kids gets sucked into the time of ancient Mesopotamia, where the girl is supposed to be a goddess, and the boy becomes host for the spirit of Gilgamesh's dead "very good friend". It sounds crazy, but it's really quite fascinating. It's early, so it could still bomb later on, but it's definitely off to a good start.
