Description
From Viz:
In the city of Ergastulum, a shady ville filled with made men and petty thieves, whores on the make and cops on the take, there are some deeds too dirty for even its jaded inhabitants to touch. Enter the “Handymen,” Nic and Worick, who take care of the jobs no one else will handle. Until the day when a cop they know on the force requests their help in taking down a new gang muscling in on the territory of a top Mafia family. It seems like business (and mayhem) as usual, but the Handymen are about to find that this job is a lot more than they bargained for.

GOOD female character *GASP*

hahahaha usually I hate the women in mangas and a llot of the time I actually have to stop reading the manga because of the annoying ass girls. but in gangsta I really like alex, she has a lot of problem but still manages to be strong and tough - which is especially noteworthy as she's a normal human among a sea of overpowered, badass motherfuckers smile and not even the ecchi got on my nerves too much, I mean, they emphasize her boobs and ass ALL THE TIME (and is that even a dress she's wearing? not a whole bunch of fabric...)but it isn't disgusting for me as it is in most other mangas. probably because they don't just work in random-ass pantyshots and lascivious poses.

Other than that I'm not gnna go into detail: the rest is just GREAT. Great characters, AWESOME art, nice emotional baggage everyone is toting around, the plot is exciting.... IT'S JUST REALLY WORTH READING.

If you are looking for a good action manga, this is it. The action sequence is real cool. The art is interesting, clean yet rough in good places. Looks more like a shounen art than a seinen.

The plot is good so far. I'm on chapter 21 right now. There have been some background stories here and there about the main characters' past, but there are still a lot of unanswered questions. A good thing to keep the readers reading. Plus, there are more characters being added without through introduction. Not a big deal though. The manga is fastpaced, so you barely notice it. It's an action manga after all; not expected to have a lot of dialogues.

A bit of a spoiler ahead....

Basically, about the story: there are many subplots, but the basic arc is about the strife between the normal people and what they call the twilights, those who have unnatural power. Twilights are very strong and they cannot survive without a specific kind of drug. So, the story is riddled with themes such as gang activities vs police vs normal ppl vs twilights, fight scenes with guns and cool swords, drugs, guns, prostitution, abuse, rape, minority population, slavery, etc. some of the fights scenes are graphic, with lots of blood and some gore. (It is a seinen) It is not something I cannot handle, but for some people, this might be too much and not they are looking for. Some nudity here and there, but this is not an ecchi. Thank god for that.

I quite like it. There is a juicy list of themes going on for this manga. I'd like to see where this is going. I'll continue to follow it.

Surprisingly good

I didn't know what to expect, so this manga really surprised me. The plot is good and well-written, characters are original and believable, and the story has its speed that doesn't get you bored easily. The only thing that disturbs me a bit is that the story is a bit confusing or rather complicated- I enjoy it, but need to focus on every detail so that i won't miss anything important.
Still if you're looking for some action with an original plot and tempting, dark atmosphere, I believe you will like it.

This manga is extremely well written. I enjoy reading it and cannot wait for the next release. I suggest it to people who like action genre. The story is incredible. I have heard some people say its like dogs bullets and carnage. I personally like the way this story is progressing more.

Dogs fans will love it

I'm only seven chapters in, but this story so far is beautiful (art), engaging, and makes use of very interesting characters with interesting dynamics between them (for example, watching Alex try to interact with Nic, who is deaf and uses sign language to communicate, is extremely heartwarming).

The only thing that's got me confused is how extremely similar it is to another manga I've loved for years, Dogs: Bullets & Carnage. Nic and Worrick are basically carbon copies of Heine and Badou, right down to the fear/avoidance of women and eyepatch respectively. Even the reason Heine and Nic avoid women appears to be the same. It's really a weird thing to watch since I suspend my disbelief for a lot of it, saying it's not like Dogs has a claim on those character traits or anything. And I still enjoy Gangsta enough to ignore them, but so far it feels like similarity after similarity keeps piling on until it's gotten downright impossible to ignore.

But hey, if you're like me and love Dogs, this is enjoyable because it's different in enough ways to make it stand on its own. It's something like a different take on the "guns-for-hire with a dark past" type of story. You've got the two sidekicks with a story that unfolds a little differently, and both can be enjoyed as two separate stories existing in very similar genres if you want to think of it that way. But, again, if you happen to love Dogs and Dogs' characters, there's no reason you wouldn't love this when the two are basically the same in that respect.

Oh, and on that note, if you can handle Dogs' haphazard storytelling, Gangsta is pretty easy to understand. It doesn't reveal everything at once, but I haven't had a single problem following what's going on, so I don't really get kichiX's complaint in that regard. I had to go back and reread Dogs from volume 1 to really understand what was going on at certain points, but Gangsta so far is easily accessible even though it goes into darker topics than Dogs does.

Anyway, try it out if you enjoy dark dystopian settings and complex, adult characters. It's got enough light comedy to keep everything from being overbearingly depressing, and the characters are very engaging and unique (Dogs similarities notwithstanding), so anyone interested in any genre it fits into should come away satisfied.

I'm a sucker for dark atmosphere, craptastic cities and villain protagonists. As such I deem 'Gangsta' very promising. It's not flawless, but it could become very good. ^^
I hope the mangaka will improve as well and give us even better series in the future.

This has become one of my all-time favorites! The setting, characters, action, and story are all interesting and creative. I especially like that the characters are actually adults. I feel like this story is targeting a more mature manga reading demographic. The mangaka also incorporates an interesting take on Asimov's Three Laws.

If you're looking for something that doesn't follow any overdone manga formulas, this is for you! It's a refreshing change of pace, and I always find myself eagerly awaiting the next chapter. If this were licensed in English, I'd buy it immediately.

Dropped

It was okay at the beginning, nothing special, but it had a kind of reality that other shounens tend to gloss over. The art fits the story the mangaka's trying to tell. The characters are okay and have mysterious pasts which are eluded to but never fully explained.
It may be because I read this chapter-by-chapter as the releases came out, but I found it all very confusing. I could go back and re-read it all, but to be honest, I'm not interested in it enough to start from the beginning, even though there's only ten chapters out at the moment. So, I've decided to drop this. My advice to people who want to start reading it: wait until there's a few more chapter out.

it is promising, but the layout is a bit confusing. the art is nice i guess to convey the rugged brittle atmosphere of the hopeless city. the two guys are mysterious, however i dont really feel the desire to know more about them. the prostitute meanwhile is intriguing. i mean shes got abused and violated frequently but somehow she still retain almost innocent air. an appropriate explanation should be in order or else i will chalk it off as poor writing to appease the general reader that like pretty naive big boobed girls. i somehow think this manga have a shounen quality in it, sure theres drugs, sex and violence, but probably the characters just too similar to other shounen manga with overpowered guys.

anyway, all too early but i think it is worth following.
