Could have been so much better

You know that feeling when someone keeps blabbing on and on about something interesting but you don't care about? That's exactly how I feel about New Waves.

The plot goes round and round in circles with absolutely no direction, one minute it's about the New Generation(New Waves?), the next it's about the Older Generation, Using Shioon, Helping Shioon? etc...It's a mess, where it seems the author can't decide the direction of the manhwa.

Overall I prefer the plot, pacing, art and everything of the previous one which I'd give a 10. If this one had more focus it could have been even better than the 1st one.

I hope the 3rd one returns with the amount of focus and good pacing the 1st one had.

Better than the original

At least in the early parts. I liked the mc's never-say-die attitude as he charges head first into danger every time. Its very stupid, but he does it with style.

The story is also more developed than the first. The characterizations were written well. I liked the tsundere bodyguard chick (who was pretty adorable). The first series, perhaps due to its shorter length, felt more like a series of fights. This one felt more fleshed out, you had a better look into character's personalities and the overall story progress further.

I found the story does unravel a bit later on. A lot of plot threads were shown but ends up going nowhere. The previous well-developed characters gets sidelined by the authors. Focus is put on former villains nobody cares about. The enemies also turned into allies in typical shounen fashion, reasons given were fairly stupid.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Eg One chick, out of nowhere, turns out to be in love with one of the good guys.
Its kind of annoying how the mc decides to forgive all those baddies even after they put his mother in a coma and brutalized all those innocent civilians. It was reason he got serious in the first place right? But the mc just lets them all off the hook just like that.

Lastly when main guy from the prev series returns. He ends up turned into an enemy for stupidest of reasons. How he got there, the people's actions, reasons given, were way too deux ex machina and not in keeping with the characterizations from before. Rather it felt too forced. The last third of the series really could of used more polish with the writing.

Typical shounen tropes aside, the series was fairly entertaining. If you liked the original, no doubt you'll be reading this one too.

this is basically about a super duper kid that get all the chicks and have all OP powers and every few pages people be like OMG, how can he be so good! blah blah blah.

and I love it. i love OP characters, and if you're like me, this is the perfect fighting shonen about a weakling getting to the top by sheer luck with huge boobies and graceful fights. the art is to die for. it make the above average story to great as hell manga.

Seriously?! There's gonna be a third one? To be frank, I'm getting pretty tired of reading about The Breaker universe, I wish JEON Geuk-jin would've just ended it in this manhwa. All I can say is that a lot of things happen in this manhwa while at the same time nothing happens ._., it is indeed slow paced. But at least it seems like things are being set up to be interesting and to have questions answered in the third one.

Different from prequel, but still very good

New Waves shouldn't be considered as sequel of original Breaker. Because this manhwa is not a stand alone work. It's a transition between first part The Breaker (where two main characters were introduced, and was created a premise for all event that will happen later in New Waves), and last part of trilogy (where will be depicted conclusion of entire story). So if you haven't read The Breaker, then there's no point to read New Waves. Also if you will start reading this manhwa with expectations to receive all answers, then you may be disappointed, because there's no any conclusion or final dot given in this part, furthermore everything ended on cliffhanger.
Unlike first Breaker, that was a fast paced blockbuster with rapidly developing events, New Waves has slower pacing. Though thru it, Author has introduced to readers a lot of new characters, with depiction of their backgrounds. Also in this part of trilogy we learned more information about Murim world, different clans, and what has lead to current events.
Art is even better than in first part. New characters are interesting and likable. Girls are really cute, and they are a real assets for story development, and not here just for the sake of fan service. Bad guys are despicable, hateful and annoying. Fights are spectacular (especially Island arc, and any fight with Elder Kwon, or Nine Arts Dragon). Story became a bit darker, several important characters died. Shioon has matured a lot.
So overall New Waves was a fascinating read, and good premise for what will happen next.

The best part of this manga is by far the art.
The manga started of well when we could sympathize with the MC. However its become tedious how the author keeps finding ways to keep under powering the MC. With all the MCs supposed dedication and innate power he has yet to beat anyone besides lackeys. In fact he has not even put a decent fight against against anyone even remotely strong. Getting beaten to a pulp but surviving does not count as a good fight. Its the same shit over and over again. at least the prequel showed some growth in the MC. New Waves is lame as hell.

Good but slow

i enjoy i feel it is sometimes drawn out battles but whatever doesn't bother me that much also i do like how it goes more i depth into the murim world than the prequel which i like. A lot slower compared to the prequel and until i see the end of the breaker new waves i will not say which i better.

I mostly hate strong willed protaginest because the reason there strong willed is for protecting their friends now i don't mind that but when that is their only reason and there god damn catch phrase i will protect my freinds is boring. But with Shi-woon it is diffrent he protects his friends but he isn't strong willed because of that, his master gave him advice to turn from a coward into never giving up character even if it isn't for is friends and just for pride and honor."SPOILER" Like when he challenged ghostly doc because he was protecting the pride and honor of sunwoo.

Response to sakirols post:

What was the original plan that Goomoonryong and Shiho had in the prequel?
Shi-Ho: As part of black forest she opposes the (then) current murim world/laws. She also seems to act on a whim, a lot based around her feelings for Chun-Woo.
Goomonryong: Same black defense associations, related to what happened to his master. He was in hiding in the beginning.

What happened to the previous head of Sunwoo?
Its So-Sul, the young girl with the illness. She was held hostage for blackmail.

They keep hinting at a rivalry between shioon and the pretty black-haired kid, but it never freaking develops.
Well, it does develop. Its not really a rivalry though.

What's with Shioon's trail-on romance developments?
Just fillout at the moment.

I recommend that you re-read the manhwa or check out its wiki. Most of your questions relate to the basics of the plot.

New Waves is a tedious read compared to its prequel with very little new development. There are tons of fights and tons of new characters, but even 161 chapters into New Waves, there's almost no depth to the plot. Moreover, the plot holes left by the previous series still aren't filled in.

Milking success from prequel.

The Breaker, hands down, was a good story. However, the author seems to enjoy milking the series now instead of actually making a sequel.

If you enjoyed The Breaker for its story, do not read this.
