Sell out? Excuse you! Is there a lot of filters in this series? Hell yes! Are all of them written and drawn by the author himself? Probably not, since there are a lot of filters. But sell out? First off, what is his relatio ship with the voice actress has anything to do with the continuation of the manga? They are both successful in whatever work that they are in. Ending conan wouldnt be such a big deal for any of them since the author is probably stinky rich and the voice actress is a popular singer and has other voice acting jobs. And on your point about nothing but fillers after volume 20.. Have you actually read the damn manga? There are amazing canon chapters after volumes 20 (and why volume 20, such a random number to pick)! And also with the recent developments that starting to tie up all loose ends, the manga is still going strong for both canon and non-canon chapters. Many fan read conan is bc of all of the random cases (they love the intricate plot line too). I am one of these fans. Doing what the fan love you to do is not selling out. Also if the mangaka wanted more money, he should really start producing more kaito kids, since there r hungry fans waiting for buy volumes and volumes of that series. Anyway, having a lot of GREAT, MIND BLOWING fillers is not selling out, and a lot of time, the fillers contain clues for the main plot that wont be reveal until later..

I love it but come on IT NEEDS TO END

I've been following this manga for 6+ years already, and there has been no progression in terms of story. That's extremely frustrating for me! I can't read this anymore.

I think the author is honestly just looking at this series as a business. He wants to pull out as much wealth as he can by dragging this story past its long overdue ending.

How to sell out - The Manga

I started the anime in the early 00s when i was still a hungry teen. I liked it at first and why not? The arts was nice (but the newer artstyle is also very recommendable), the characters were fun and the cases were a who´s who of famous crime novels. That part is still good and a story was still to be found. I later switched to the manga due to my hatred of filler materiel but times moved on and the series now has 89 in canon volumes, 40+ out of canon volumes and many other spin-offs. There are also yearly movies, OVAs, games and... The cast even unsuccessfully met Lupin twice but i checked out years ago. Opening up a random release now and then didn´t help to get me back either. They are still crying over Cherry´s dead sister, who is the one dead character Most romances are still a bust and the age regression plot will never be resolved it seems. No one aged, graduated or changed in a meaningful way way so the whole manga has been a filler since the release of volume 20 or so. I wonder if any of the recurring cast members can even feel emotions anymore as they live in the House of a Thousand Corpses in regards to the death toll. The one redeeming feature thus still remains the underappreciated art.
Gosho had to come up with thousands of characters over the 22 years. A true marvel but i will admit that he uses the same body frames and face types over and over again. Especially the 4 (?) versions of Shinichi X Ran he has used in his 4 major works are the very same characters in body and personality but that is hardly the worst problem by now. I also noticed how clean cut the overall narrate is. A long running crime drama without teeth makes no sense to me and nothing objectionable happens (none are gay or morally grey for example) past the beheading in the first case but let´s stop. I will come back for the final volume and i won´t be surprised if it resolved nothing past the McGuffin-tastic age reversal arc and if the one dead character i previously mentioned showed up again. I also advice too google who the author married (and soon divorced). It´s Conan´s voice actress from Two-Mix. Crazy hm?
Everything i said about Conan also applies to it´s brother in arm´s Kindaichi Shounen no Jikenbo, which is even sexist on top, so deduct one point there.
Read these crime manga instead of dragging Conan along for another 2 decades, as it de-evolved into a money printing machine by now, or stop when you start to get bored: Billy Bat (10/10), Death Note (9,5/10), Master Keaton (8/10), Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro (8/10) and Monster (10/10).

The joy lies in reading single cases

...and not just focusing on the ending. Readers of this series include but do not limited to who only care about the Black Organization. This series is not about Shinichi Kudo, it is about Conan (hence the title). The main plot needs its closure and Shinichi will need to be back someday, but every small case solved by Conan is packed with a lot of different material about criminal minds, psychology, life lessons etc. and is designed to be read independently.
The mangaka works hard on each chapter, and there rarely are filling frames, so I think giving the series a low rate just because it "doesn't end yet" is quite unfair. If we are talking about "dragging" then I will rather include series like Skip Beat (release once per month) and Glass Mask (how many decades have it lasted already?).

Too long?

Many people mentioned, or rather complained, Conan is dragging on for too long. I can somehow understand these negative feelings about the length, but I can't agree completely with it, actually. I know this series since I was a child as well, but I'm rather happy it hasn't ended yet. I want to read more cases, because I think the author hasn't dropped his standard of quality and the cases are still interesting and the characters are still appealing to me. Of course, I want to know how it ends as well, but I also don't want it to end on the other hand, because it would mean the end of japanese Agatha Christie-like mystery.
During the next 10 years or so I would appreciate an end as well, but how is it bad when a series accompanies you for your life: from childhood through growing up and then adulthood, and you are still loving it?

I have been a fan of this manga for over 10 years. I stopped buying volumes when I was 15, because they became too expensive. Since then, I haven't even touched any of the books. Now I've decided to pick this series up again, hoping I would be able to find out what happened to Conan and his friends. But this is still ongoing? Seriously? I love this manga, but I really want to see how it ends... Is it never going to happen? I understand this is a very popular manga and they want to get all the cash they can get from it. It's also true that when this has been going on for so long, it can be difficult to end it... But this is just too long.

However, I am amazed how Aoyama has still kept the story interesting. Every new murder case interests me, and while the manga is VERY repetive, it still doesn't feel repetive at all. The characters are interesting, and while this manga is not very realistic (Conan just happens to bump into a murder case every single day of his life in a country with one of the lowest murder rates), it doesn't bother me the least. Don't get me wrong, I still want this to end, but hey, every good thing comes to an end, right? ...Right?

I read this series since i was seven, and now i'm twenty and it's still go no where.
too many unrelated case from main story, somehow this manga fell like agatha christie's novel put in one title, with only one main detective.
even it has main story, the author do not dig it deeper, not even given some clue of the main plot.
where is the black suited man confused confused almost a thousand chapter and there is no conclusion in black suited manconfused
altough i like this manga, i'm bored with too many unrelated episodic case, it's just like doraemon in detective style.
it's like hajime no ippo, 1000++ chapter and never fight miyata.

As a fan of this series for over 10 years, I can easily say that Detective Conan has always been near the top of my list. This series is very well-known in Japan and other Asian countries, with its fans ranging from elementary school age to elders. This is due to its intriguing plot and characters. As earlier labelled, this series indeed falls under the mystery genre. However, I believe it also has the ability to draw in readers whom are fans of other genres, such as myself. I was captivated by the interesting plot, the humour, and lovable characters when I was a child, and to this day, I'm still in love with this series because of those reasons.

Now, while everything I said so far are positive reviews of the series, I did add in a "but" in the subject. In my opinion, if there is one flaw with the series, it's that it's too unnecessarily long! I'm definitely not the first person to mention this on here, so I won't talk too much into it. Basic point is, I feel like now that Detective Conan has gained a lot of fans in most Asian countries, Aoyama Gosho is just dragging it on for the money (just my opinion though). In an interview from 6 years ago, Aoyama mentioned that he already has the ending planned out; however, here we are 6 years later, it's still no where close to the end. This is extremely frustrating, especially for fans like me who has waited many years for the big conclusion. As much as I love the series, I also wish it would end soon, because seeing it dragged on like this for no reason, is extremely agonizing and annoying.

In conclusion, this series is definitely a good read, but its unreasonable length can be very frustrating.

I really love this series. It's got many interesting cases and each have some difference.(It's amazing how God/Fate or Conan or some guy can always get 3 suspects. EVERY SINGLE TIME)
Plus Conan sure ages slow. It's got many interesting characters.
I love the fact that it doesn't end (This surpases even One Piece in terms of length) I hope that it hits 2000+ chapters.

Unrealistic but charming

Ok, the story is more than unlikely. But it never wanted to be realistic anyway. The characters are funny and the crimes are for the most interesting and ingenious. The main plot almost never develops, it's more of an episodic manga, but that's fine considering its genre.
