Yeah, just that. It's fine, it's not great, it's not average, it's a bit above average at good/fine. Just remember that this is NOT one of those stories where you want to get on the mcs side like I usually do with awesome mcs, where you imagine stuff from their perspective and immerse yourself(actually, it's probably best if you dislike the mc a bit, not enough to hate him but enough to gloat at his misfortune and foolishness). He's a moron and gets his ass handed to him regularly for being a moron. Just think of him as a side character or something, otherwise you will not enjoy this. I assure you that I cringed enough at his moronic escapades while not placing any real importance on him as a character, if I had cared about him I would've lost interest at the very beginning.
I usually prefer mcs that at least have some brainpower, but sometimes you have to give that up for other stuff so as not to get bored of your favorite stuff. Since I just read this for comedy and a laugh or two, I never expected him to be smart and I don't really mind that a monkey with a stick and chair getting a banana is probably far superior to him since I kind of knew what to expect from a japanese style mc in a comedy, even if they're usually a fair bit smarter than this guy. Good enough to read, especially funny if you don't like the mc that much as most the humor is about him getting screwed over, I actually laughed out loud a few times because I gloated at his misfortune. He's not a bad guy, but he's not that likable either, which is perfect. Good enough to keep around yet bad enough to not get annoyed when he gets fcked by everyone. I guess it could also be considered a plus that unlike in most other similar manga/novels/anime, this guy gets treated like the worthless guy he is instead of all the girls falling madly in love with him for no discernible reason. I like harems, but I find it somewhat unpleasant when the guy in question is just a worthless human being with nothing going for him except not fighting back when everyone screws with him...
I should also mention that I found two characters to be quite disgusting. The electricity girl and telekinesis girl. Both are the rude, annoying sort who doesn't care about people are needlessly violent for no reason. I especially started hating them at around chapter 16-17 where
The mc wins 1million yen, he had joked about splitting the money with the rest of them if he won anything. He did win, but then he lost the ticket and they found it outside the club room and didn't want to return it,
starting to fight over it, something that is HIS property and his to do whatever he wants with, he also never wrote any agreement to really split with them not to mention that they want to STEAL it all,
they even have an esper girl that can read minds so they can't even lie about buying one themselves or anything else like that, hell, they didn't even try to lie and just said "I picked it up so it's mine"...
I mean, really? That's not even funny, it's just selfish, respectless and a major crime. Well, the worst part is that the vice president comes and says "hey, you guys(the two annoying girls that are trying to steal the money) destroyed this and that, you need to repay the school and it costs exactly 1 million yen"... So, guess what? The mc selflessly, with tears in his eyes, pays for it all with his 1 million yen,
ALL OF IT, repaying THEIR debts. So, guess what these two c*nts do next? Do they grovel in happiness and express their deepest thanks for covering their debt(that had no guilt in) with his money so that they don't have to repay around 1million yen(about 9100 dollars), something pretty much impossible for a student? NO! The next chapter we see that they have forced him to sign a document(and they're pissed at him) where it says that "because he spent "OUR" part of the lottery winnings(there was never a real agreement in that in the first place) without our consent, he has to do any odd jobs for the club for unspecified weeks.".
I mean, really? What the actual fck? Just how screwed up in the head can you be? He covers your debt(which he had nothing to do with) out of his pocket, ALL his money, and you not only do not thank him, you blame him for not giving you the money he never legally bindingly agreed on giving you and spending it where you would've had to spend it AND extra money from your own savings(that you probably don't even have) if you had gotten your cut? This is also after trying to steal it for themselves.
Geez, it's been a little while since I've hated two characters this much, even antagonists aren't this bad... These two characters lowered my score from 7 to 6, yeah, if you, as an author, can't even understand that something like that isn't funny, then you deserve a lower score. I dislike characters like that in the first place, but if used right they can be pretty good, but this author sometimes made some seriously bad decisions. Maybe I'm overreacting, because they are not that bad as long as they just beat him up for normal reasons, but if there's something I hate, it's people who 1: try to steal other peoples stuff out of greed, even when it's clear who the owner is, those who have no respect for private possessions and freely mess or steal them, 2: those who are ungrateful, especially if it's a huge favor, even more so if they pay it back with enmity 3: those who abuse innocent people with no provocation, not even a slight one... These guys just manage to fulfill all three things at times... At other times they're fairly amusing...
The ending was horrible, a big part thanks to that it was rushed like hell due to being axed. I guess it's good that there actually was an ending, no matter how bad and rushed it was.
Still, the author introduced a new character and stuff seemed like it could get really interesting if it continued, we also get to know the mcs real power. Then it abruptly ended. It's nice to know his super power and some trivia about the future at least, but it left me wanting more, wanting to see that story, because it seemed FAR more interesting with a slightly more competent mc and I could probably expect some really funny esper battles between the light and dark organization that was mentioned. The school setting is boring and overused, not to mention that it's not particularly relatable for us westerners who never went to their schools even if we stocked up on some knowledge from novels, manga and anime... In the first place, school was never really that enjoyable in my case and I never had any of those "youthful" moments that they mention all the time and I'm sure that's the case for most of us.
I don't really want to be reminded of that time, so I guess it's actually lucky that I can't relate that well with these japanese schools and their systems. However, a school setting was never that interesting and it's just far too overused because of it being the "natural" setting for youths. So it's sad that we didn't get a sequel or just a continuation of this one and that it got axed.
I found this to be way funnier compared to kono bijutsubu ni wa mondai ga aru(although that one wasn't bad either), another manga by this mangaka with an entirely different approach to comedy. Probably has to do with 1: I didn't quite like the character cast that much in that other work and they were somewhat boring/lacking for comedy, and 2: I like the idea of supernatural powers, it spices things up a bit above the quite boring idea of an arts club with some mildly wacky members...
