The first non-annoying female lead ever

Very rarely do you get to a female lead that is honest, kind, true to herself, and hardworking. This is a genuine story about two teens falling into a deep love. I really enjoyed reading this and the character development and depth really added to the beauty of this story. It's a shame it's kind of on hiatus right now.

I really liked this up to the recent chapters. From then on it seemed rather out of character and then as I got up to the last update (ch31) and finished it I felt like it was pointless reading this and that I had just wasted my time. I do love the characters though! Quite original and I loved Nanase! I just felt that the characters were wasted on such a pointless plot!! It just keeps on going arond in circles...I have mixed feelings, but I did like it and it is def above average

Your usual shoujo flavor but with better lead characters

High school romances in shoujo manga usually have the mix of being anxious about confessing, being nervous about first dates and physical contacts, dealing with differences in character, and stressing over a third party. This manga has all of those elements but they were presented to the reader in the most endearing ways possible. I never thought I'd root for a shoujo heroine that is so persistent! It's all thanks to Nanase being candid and strong-willed that she's a cut above the typical shoujo heroines along with Kyoko of the manga Horimiya. Even the male lead Hana-kun is lovable because he's not the usual jerk that most shoujo love interests are despite him being a school delinquent.

This manga's selling point are really the lead characters. Thank goodness for a female lead who is determined but not desperate, and a love interest who is too cool for school but not a douchebag. I even admire the fact that the depiction of Nanase as a smart girl does not only depend on her getting good grades.

Oh, and you should see how unrequited love is played out here. The instances of acceptance and rejection are with good reason, and not at all melodramatic. Though I admit the amount of honesty in this manga may appear too good to be true sometimes. Then again, being direct is better than beating around the bush. It makes the story development appear smoother.

I recommend this to those who loved Horimiya. You'd be missing out on a good shoujo if you don't get to read this.

Nothing like this

Why I like it:
I've never found anything as warm, pleasing and original as this series. The female lead is one of the best shoujo leads out there. The series is pretty plain, and the originality is worth appreciation. You can easily relate to the lead. She realizes that no trick would draw Hana's attention, and therefore waits for him to reciprocate her feelings. You won't have every page filled up with those awkward thoughts of "Am I in love" or something like that because Nanase is well aware of her feelings and actions. The series is very simple, and the romance is taken very naturally. You wont find lots of kisses right after confession, you wont have those cheesy lines filled throughout. The characters are lovable. Even if the guy named Goujo comes as a rival for Hana (in a certain way) he is not a bad guy at all (Actually I started liking him more than Hana T^T). His innocence and his love for Nanase can lead the readers to think if he is a better choice for her. The latest chapter is very sad, but the author has just showed the originality and uneasiness of someone's feelings. When you love someone, you love them from all your heart. But the day when you realize they dont love you as much as they should, or you are not as close to them as you thought till now, you start feeling uneasy. Love doesn't happen out of the blue here, Hana takes a while to forget about the teacher, and Nanase is not in a hurry either. And so, its really amazing ^.^ But..... Is it not a love triangle? The time I picked it, and even now, the categories don't say its a love triangle. Actually I don't really like love triangles, and maybe I might be mistaking but I thought this series was one. But I am glad the categories don't have it or I wouldn't have picked this, which would be a big mistake.

Why I dont like it:
Its not completely translated T_T When I started it I was like "Oh...I dont care even if its not complete. Not like its anything serious" But when I read the new chapter I wanted more, cause its sad. I always try to pick completed series because if I ever run into a good ongoing series, after the last scanlated chapter, I have this fever of learning japanese so that I can read the raws. But lets hope we get new chapters soon ^-^

Sakashita Nanase

I second every positive comments for the female protagonist, Sakashita Nanase. I find her very beautiful in her own way, especially when she smiles so wide. And this is the first time I ever think like that for a heroine in every shoujo manga I read. The way she faces her unrequited feelings is very realistic and not exaggerating like what I usually find in other shoujo mangas with the same story theme. To the point that I can relate myself to her and in the end I can't help but sympathize with her. She's perfect in all her imperfectness. Aside from the story development, she is the biggest reason why I read this manga and rated this with a big 10.

Sakashita Nanase is different than your usual shoujo protagonists. She is smart and beautiful, takane no hana, which are normally the traits of rival character. Yet even if she's perfect, rather than invoking jealousy of the readers, she gains our sympathy and retains the likeability of a main character.

Usually not into shoujo highschool that much. but for a while Im looking for unrequited love stories, and here it is I tried to read this and cant stop until the last chapter. I got attached because the characters and the development between the main characters, the mangaka isnt overdo it and its feel realistic.I've decided this manga will be my favorite. hope that upcoming chapter is not gonna be boring.
