Description
The Nightmare of Fabrication is a beautifully drawn full-colour manga from Yoshitoshi ABe. The 18 page short story can be found in the Lain Omnipresence in Wired artbook. It's a bonus story which apparently isn't related with neither the anime nor the PS game. It shows characters who were included in the PS game but not in the TV series (like the psychiatrist), but also determinant characters from the anime who didn't appear in the videogame (like Deus).

It has all the elements a short mystery story should have, but that's also what restrains it.
I'm guessing that all the unnecessary elements are related to the other series, but they don't really add anything (how the teddy the teddy broke). Also, the setting is excessively unnatural, though given the theme it's acceptable.

Yoshitoshi ABe never disappoints because his mind s expansive. To think a 20-sum year old was thinking this deeply and could express himself in such a manor is remarkable. The Anime is also gold and I needs to be watched more than once to to be understood. Thoughts about life, reality, memories, morality, technology, creation of a false world *ie the internet.
style is a matter of preference, I enjoy simplicity to ABe's art style is totally to my liking but it may not be for everyone.

you dont need to watch the anime or play the game, because this is self contained and offer you everything without referring to the past works. beautiful art and thought-provoking, read it!

I really didn't expect this much depth and intensity from a one-shot. It deals with so many issues- what you choose to remember and what you choose to forget, the never-ending lies that people tell themselves and each other, the disregard for life that comes with the advancement of technology, the cruelty of murder and people's desires for a perfect life; all in just eighteen pages!
A real masterpiece in the field of one-shots! Everyone should give this a go. And read it slowly, or you won't get its subtle message.
