The manga and the movies of the same name are both based on the Onmyouji novels by well known Japanese science fiction writer Yumemakura Baku.
All three concern the adventures of Abe no Seimei, an onmyouji (magician) serving the imperial court during the Heian period and his friend nobleman Minamoto no Hiromasa. Both men are historical figures who appear in various sets of tales. Many of the early chapters of the manga closely follow stories in the Konjaku Monogatari or Uji Shui Monogatari.

I like both the movies and the manga, but they're not very similar. The manga adds a number of female characters and has a slyer style of humor. The movie is much goofier and, arguably, more subtext-laden.
Even if you can't read Japanese, it's worth buying the manga because the art is just that gorgeous.
It has been translated into French.

If the live-action movie can be an indication of how good this manga is... Then it should be ultra-awesome.
P.S, Abe no Seimei is quite famous, and whenever Onmyoji is mentioned in a historical\supernatural manga you'll probably find some Seimei reference.
