Description
From Viz:
A moving drama that is heartfelt and true, yet in the brilliant hands of manga artist Mitsuru Adachi, delightfully flows with a light and amusing touch. The series centers around a boy named Ko, the family of four sisters who live down the street and the game of baseball. This poignant coming-of-age story will change your perception of what shonen manga can be.

Note: Won the 54th Shogakukan Manga Award for Shounen in 2009.

Pretty damn good

I was very surprised with Cross Game when I read it a year ago, behind the cool art I was expecting a bit of a shallow story.
Boy was I in the wrong, it turned out that Cross Game was high on drama and excitement. It didn't really play like I predicted, and that means it is good. That characters while simplistic get good development and the pace of the story was nice.
Probably one of the greatest manga I've read.

Cross Game is the first sports/Adachi manga I have ever read, and I am relatively surprised at Adachi's ability to suck people in with his plot, characters, and excellent art. Although the characters looks old school, they have a nice charm that makes a person feel warm and fuzzy inside.

Adachi sure knows how to blend sports with romance and drama along with a slice of comedy.

ADACHI's Best Work Yet !!!

Another Manga from Adachi and another Hit from him, it's surprising to Note that he first entered the realm of being a Mangaka 30 years ago (u read it right) 30 years ago....and 3 decades later he is still going strong....adachi Rocks!!!!!

Touch, H2 and Cross Game are all very similar in both Character Designs and Relationship and that odd bount of sport called "Baseball" but each story of his has unique Twist to differentiate it from one another and create a Classic Tale out of it

Seriously Adachi knows how to write an engaging story like no other, probably the Best Sports mangaka coupled with Rom-Com factor ever

Look forward to more of his Future work coz remember Adachi NEVER DISAPPOINTS....EVER!

Truely, an incredible story. it pulls you toward it, and you cant but continue to read it untill the end, and even further.
As much as I would like a continuation of the series, as much am I satisfied with how it ended. Adachi is truely a master in his profession, a mangaka that is able to use every aspect a manga has to offer and utilises it fully. nothing less than a 10 is appropriate here.

Mitsuru Adachi-sensei, thank you for this great, great story!

The best of Adachi's works

In my opinion, Cross Game is probably Adachi's best work to date. Like his previous works, it has a great plot, appealing characters, and a never-ending stream of funny situations. However what Cross Game has that the other mangas lack, is polish. Don't get me wrong, Adachi is a fantastic mangaka and his other works are great. But to me, they've always felt unfinished--like they're missing something more, an extra 'omph' factor. In this manga, Adachi finally achieves perfection.

For me, I think the greatest aspect of this manga was how he manages to presents the story in such a way that it never seems superfluous, cliched, or awkward. The plot was always engaging, the dry humour always managed to get a laugh out of me, and in the end, the manga left me completely satisfied despite it's ambiguous ending. I hate to put labels on things, but honestly? This might be one of my favorite mangas ever.

Good Humor

Ah, such good, curt jokes. I wish more manga had this style of humor. I've read far too much manga with panties showing, nosebleeds, or other gag gimmicks for comedy. This doesn't do any of that, but is still on-key with the humor.

The dynamic relationships between the characters is really pleasing too. Although it kind of focuses on Kitamura Koh and the Tsukishima family, the other characters are just as fun to watch and listen to. The mangaka Adachi really understands how people interact, I think.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Cross Game is better by far than H2 and Touch, and cute, gripping and readable on top of it, but in the end it really remains the same. Adachi's main characters all look the same as each other, there's always a love triangle, and always a tragedy. I'm glad the principal romantic couple got together in the end, though.

It starts off horribly slow, but it does tend to suck you in as time goes by, so stick with it. As a general rule, though, I try to let a few months go by in between each Adachi manga. ^^;

This is the best series i've read so far out of all. Proves that he's matured yet another step with each series he draws. Probably some might not like the ending, but it is indeed one of the most conclusive ending (not like other ambiguous ending he has) I've ever read (Katsu can be counted in that too but well, i just love Cross Game more). But, even leaving the ending aside, i do feel that Cross Game is the better one overall in term of plot and growth of the chara. And it is similar to Touch for some reason, probably the upgrade version bigrazz

Adachi is Adachi, if you dont like his style please stop reading his work, we (who like his style) enjoy it big time, ending style might be annoying to some people, and might be best type of ending for some, i like Adachi's style and enjoy it ^^
