A rare gem!

I love this! I really, really love this! I'm no stranger to Takanaga-sensei's work, but this is one of my favorites! The plot is very unpredictable~! You think it's going to be a cliche, with the characters falling in love from the get-go, but there are many misunderstandings and feelings to uncover that I didn't expect and I found myself pleasantly surprised chapter after chapter. I know it's not that dramatic, but I cried basically throughout the first half of the series (that's a measure of quality for me! If I don't cry, the manga probably isn't good) and smiled through the rest.
Ok, maybe the Makita thing and the "seme saves the day" part were a bit of a cliche, but I still loved it regardless.
I also have to comment on how perfect the length was. I usually think manga extend forever and ever and don't finish when they should - which is when the characters get together with just a little something after to make us take a peek of all the fluff. This ends right there. I'd only add an extra chapter to sort out the long-distance problem and the end to their little (playful) discussion at the end. But it was close to perfect!
I was also pleasantly surprised with Yuzuki. Kijima isn't my type of seme either, but he's gorgeous, takes the initiative and chases after the uke? Good enough for me. But the weak, cowardly, cry-baby, megane uke really isn't my type. But! Like everything else in this series, that concept was quickly subverted, too, making him a bad-ass uke right on the second chapter and than he grows even more at the end.
Also, I do have to comment on how amazing the art is. Like I mentioned, I'm a long-time fan of sense's work, but the art here was especially good. Kijima's expressions are my favorite part. His jealousy, the moments of pain and his eagerness to...erm...be a seme (lol) were very realistic.
This is a solid 10. There's nothing to critique here.

Generic mangas can be entertaining

I see it like Drifting below me. Its a generic story but still very entertaining. I like the art and the style of the mangaka. Its captivating. Her previous works belong to my favorites, esp. Little Butterfly and Bukiyou na Silent. Even when this title here wouldnt make it in my top ranks, it is an excellent time killer.

a roll up of all your favorite cliches

I wouldn't pick up this manga if I were looking for something fantastic to read. There was absolutely nothing refreshing about this manga in that it showed nothing new or unexpected. I did however end up giving it a higher rating than I first expected because even though it didn't reach out beyond its own average scope, within the parameters of its averageness it hit spot on. If it were a soap opera, it would be the best. There are enough plot turns and conflicts to keep you interested, including: a surprising new career, a dark past, separate love interests, one-sided love, mentorship gone wrong, scandal and so on. It's kind of like when you know that perky blond is going to die first in the horror flick, or when someone's going to fall into a coma in the soap; you know what's going to happen next but you can't help but anticipate it.

If you're looking for something like this, then you'll feel the same tingle of anticipation I felt when after reading the first chapter you realize that Kijima isn't particularly interested in the kimono artist. You know that a reluctant but absolute fall into love is coming--me saying it now isn't even really a spoiler is it? The amount of cliches used, but skillfully, promote this manga from "mindless fluff" status to "cheesy rom-coms and popcorn on a rainy day" status. Enjoy.

Disappointment

I like Kijima in the prequel and was so happy that the author makes a sequel for him. I was greatly disappointed at this super wussy, girly, weak and two-timing uke. And of course, he has to carry a sad past.

Love it so far and can't wait to get the book or translation!
I liked Kijima in Oboreru already so I was happy to see him get his own story.
This manga starts out pretty captivating already and it kept me interested so far; I love the new character Ichikawa because he's acting shy but is taking the first step toward Kijima, which is just awesome for an uke!
The plot thickens with all sorts of information about Ichikawa's past coming out and it seems very interesting! I hope there'll be lots more because I doubt I'd get tired of this couple!

Unlike the Midareru and Ochiru prequels, in this series, the uke is the one who makes the first move and kinda has an unrequited love for the seme. The overall plot is predictable to some extent, yet I am very excited to see how Kijima is going to fall in love with Ichikawa.

Also, the mangaka is on vacation currently, so the next chapter is not going to be released until late March or April. The cliff hanger is driving me crazy. The appearance of the former lover of the uke in the next chapter maybe? Love triangle!

edit: So, chapter 4 is out!
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
It turned out that the person on the phone was not the third person for the love triangle. The person Ichikawa "used to love" was the sensei in his hometown, whom has not yet made his appearance. He is said to be a married man, yet I am still curious about him though, like his look, age, and especially his notion of Ichikawa's feelings. If Ichikawa's love is really unrequited, then does that mean Kijima is not going to compete with anyone? I hope not, because the story might become less thrilling that way (yes, I am one of those evil people who want all the characters suffer in love before they earn it lol).

Besides, it was absolutely unpredictable when Ichikawa confessed that he has not yet given up his one-sided love for the sensei. I had assumed that he was head-over-heels for Kijima. So, after all, what is really his feeling for Kijima? More importantly, who weigh more in his heart NOW, Kijima or his sensei? And when is Kijima going to realize his attraction to Ichikawa and start his days of cute jealousy (lol)? Also, it is unclear how deeply the character Makita will be involved in the story. It might be a cliche but satisfying twist if he turns out to be secretly in love with Ichikawa for a long time.

So many questions are raised in this chapter, which is short but important in a way that it is a good foundation for other layers of revelation and twist to be built upon in the near future. The story up until now is like a roller coaster that is slowly going up, with me sitting inside anticipating for the moment for it to drop and all the fun to begin. With that being said, I am looking forward to a longer and more dynamic chapter coming next from Takanaga sensei. In my opinion, 4 chapters are long enough to set up the background, and now should be the time all the main characters go out, interact, and work the romance out.

One last thing, I have not really thought about this before, but, as someone mentioned, Ichikawa is no ordinarily shy uke. He sure is shy, but he is also one of the rare ukes in Takanaga sensei's works that is bold enough to seduce the seme. It is also quite fresh to read about Ichikawa after a long read of "The Tyrant Who Falls in Love", which ended not to long ago, where the uke was just sometimes unbearably unreasonable and made the seme suffer to no end (it was still a good read overall though).

It is so hard to wait for the release of mangas with gorgeous art and decent plot like this. I might have white hair by the time chapter 5 comes out x"(
