Cute and impossible

The romance was cute and typical, although the entire story wasn't very well-developed. Unlike jiguo28, I thought the fatal flaw was very conceivable in terms of Cherry's character development. Although I enjoyed it for the most part, her final performance is completely impossible, which completely blew my mood when I was reading it.

If you're familiar with ice skating, you may know a certain notorious movie that's my title piece. If you're not good for you.
I'm a fan of skating, for a number of years, so of course I wanted to read this. However, the info and details of skating are very layman's, this is a spiral, etc., and rather uninteresting. More to the point, certain crucial plot elements (Cherry's fatal flaw for example, which would be a bonus in pairs skating) are utterly contrived, and not convincing to me. The pictures are pretty, but the love story can also leave one cold and isn't very convincing either. Oh well, there's always Sugar Princess, another ice skating manga I'm reading.

The Cherry Project is an adorable manga!
The art is beautiful! Thanks to the ice skating and dance elements there were many opportunities to bring in lovely and graceful poses which I always love when it comes to Naoko Takeuchi’s art style.
I like ice skating myself, however I am not familiar with any actual terms or rules whatsoever – as such I can't say whether or not this manga is correct or realistic.
As for the characters… I find them like-able but none of them stand out all that much – they are your standard set of characters I suppose. Most of the supporting characters didn’t have any depth. It was nice how they supported the main characters – in a way it showed that they are great friends but at the same time they didn’t seem to have any life of their own. Obviously we wouldn’t get to see all that much of supporting characters but a little bit more background information on them wouldn’t have hurt!
I also liked how, despite being a romance manga, the story did mostly concentrate on the ice skating! Although the romance and ice skating moments were pretty much all tied together - ice skating remained the plots focus.
Sadly there were also some typical scenes that have always bothered me in pretty much any story; characters that randomly had a school transfer or basically kids and teenagers having way too much freedom and doing as they please in ways it would never be possible. I expect unrealistic elements when reading shoujo’s but there are some I can do without!
I can say that I was very pleased with the ending. I love when the final pages refer to the very first pages of the story – it gives a nice round and complete feel.
All in all – gorgeous art, sweet story, like-able characters but a tad too generic. Still something I’d definitely recommend to romance lovers!
