In a near future where humans have safely traveled to Mars, the space program is looking to go to Jupiter for the first time in history. For Subaru Yuuto, Amami Kousei, one of the elite astronauts of the crew of the Jupitneer (the ship heading to Jupiter), is not only a person that he looks up to but is also a dear friend of many years. But tragedy strikes and a malfunction causes an explosion in the Jupitneer and the ship goes missing in deep space, most believing the crew to be dead.
Even with the devastating loss of a friend and hero, Yuuto joins the Core Space Academy to become a super class astronaut (aka Sirius) just like Kousei once was and explore parts of the universe that has not yet been known to man. The competition is cutthroat and he has to become the best of the best if he wants to be where his hero once was. Although the fear of the unknown is immense, Yuuto must learn to overcome it and become the hero for the next generation.

Dumbed down

In short, this whole manga is a teenage introduction to being an astronaut. The problem is that it keeps falling back on stupid shounen tropes while repeatedly throwing death in the face of the cast.

To give you an idea of how lightly/poorly the whole story deals the dangers of space, death and the difficulty of becoming/being an astronaut, the main protagonist's main motivation for becoming an astronaut is to recover the corpse of his brother. His team FAILS their first test under the threat of EXPULSION, and a mere SIX MONTHS later they're in space. Finally, the trainees are so uncooperative with one another that another trainee shoves him aside to complete the objective, DURING AN UNTETHERED SPACE WALK (ie. if he lost control he would have floated out into space and suffocated or fallen into Earth's atmosphere and burned up on re-entry).

A bit plagiarised...

So far (as of chapter 4), this has closely copied the plotting of Twin Spica, with only a little bit of variation. It seems like it will diverge soon (this seems more focussed on actually going to space, which Spica wasn't at all), but a bit lame that it began so similarly. It looks at risk of devolving completely into Shounen mediocrity, but I shall hold out hope for the time being.
