Description
From Yen Press:

High King Madeth and his dear friend, the knight Lalvan…

By all appearances, the ties that bind the two men are made of the sternest stuff, but in truth their friendship has always struck a most delicate balance. With the arrival of Lady Prima and then her newborn son, Perseus, the precarious harmony between Madeth and Lalvan crumbles. And years later, when the young Perseus, harboring questions about his birth, seeks out Lalvan, will the repercussions be much greater than a friendship lost?

A lone angel, its eyes replete with sadness, watches the tragedy unfold…

Had me until the end

This volume has fantastic, beautifully drawn and detailed art, and if that were the only factor I'd give this a ten. Without spoiling anything (though I'm not sure there'd even be much to spoil) the story, sadly, keeps building up like there's going to be some great twist or pay off, and really had my interest up until the end... where it just sort of fizzles out... This was disappointing, and for such a great read on the whole, it really deserved a better final chapter, but I'd still recommend it for fans of medieval-ish settings, beautifully toned art, or complete-in-one-volume stories.

Plunged a knife into my heart and I can't pull it out

Yet another sad Aki story. Instead of Historical being her main genre, Tragedy should be it. :/
Elhanburg's Angel was a short read, but it was very interesting. The whole setting of the manga is like a stack of dominoes: One thing goes wrong, which causes everything else to go bad. I don't want to spoil it for those who haven't read at least a chapter of it, but this whole manga was hell of a psychological journey. It's a ton more dramatic than other Aki manga, I have to say, but it works well.
The story starts off very slowly, most being conversations between Lalvan and Madeth. When the Elhanburg's "angel" appears, things begin to stir up a bit, but not to the degree of when Miss Prima shows up. From Miss Prima's appearance on, everything plummets. She's definitely your perfect example of a femme fatale.
It's still a complex and good read. I personally enjoyed it. Not to the degree of Aruosumente, but it was definitely a change of pace from the norm [usual Aki manga and normal manga out there]. It was difficult to understand though. But, the end chapters explain everything very well so it all clears up in the end. I can't say as of yet how the overseas community thinks of Elhanburg's Angel, but it is doing well in Japan. It's one of the most popular series Haruca and it seems like the editors at Shodensha really like it.
And Perses is gorgeous, but don't get attached to him because I did and I regret it. sobs But congrats on Elhanburg's Angel being Aki's 10th published volume! biggrin
