Interesting plot. Very heartwarming at the beginning of the story. I have mix feeling about the ending as well, but I agree with Meatbunz. All in all its worth reading.

The ending was a surprise. Many might find it disgusting but if the two people who are involved aren't complaining what right do we have to say that they are wrong. They are happy and aren't really causing anyone else harm. They really aren't even blood related. I mean people have problems with the same sex marriage as well just because it doesn't follow their morals, brief, or religion. As long as they aren't harming anyone else I can't see the problem. I have more of a problem when its come to those polygamy religion that forces the 16 year old girl into sexual activity for so called "spirit sense." Really now.

The one problem I did have with the ending was when in the world did the two main characters started having romantic feelings for each other. I would have thought there be a little more development other than oh by the way I love you not as a father and then the father figure saying oh ok. It wasn't so much that they got together that bother me but how and why. Poof,it just happened? Felt like maybe the author was told ok you have to finish the story up by this date so hurry up. I wished the author had done a little more romantic development between the two character before jumping from fatherly love to romantic love between the two. It would have been more believable to me then.

I was better-off only watching the anime

I first watched the anime before reading the manga. I really loved the plot. It gave me a very warm homey feeling. I'm really soft when it comes to topics about family and stuff. It made me think about all the sacrifices my parents made...
After watching the anime, I continued reading vol5 til the end... and honestly, I was better-off only watching the anime. It's still a good manga... but the ending of a story is a very important factor. The ending was rather a very rare circumstance...far beyond the norms. I honestly was not comfortable with the ending. I would like to think that Rin only had a "father complex" of some sort... but that was not the case.
However I would still give it an 8. As I've said, (for the most part) I enjoyed the manga and I loved the anime.

I suppose this is a rather controversial manga.
The ending is really what throws people off, and it's easy to see why. For the most part, I really enjoyed this story and I liked what they addressed in both parties, one as the "guardian" and the other as a "child", suddenly becoming something more than platonic. I thought that the viewpoint of Rin as she dealt with her emotions was really well done, but not so much on Daikichi's part. It's just so out of character, that's my real issue. I'd have preferred it if he had rejected her, more to suit his character than the relationship.
What's good in this manga is good, though. It is well written and though not the best paced, is still fabulously done for such a story.
This does happen in real life, by the way. Just look at Woody Allen!
"In 1991, when the relationship started, Allen was 56 and Previn was 21. Asked whether their age difference was conducive to "a healthy, equal relationship," Allen said equality is not necessarily a requirement in a relationship and said, "The heart wants what it wants. There's no logic to those things. You meet someone and you fall in love and that's that."
(And that's a 35 year difference; still married by the way!)

My thoughts on the ending
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Honestly I love how the author gives such a controversial ending. From reaction to it, we can clearly see that many people in our society love imposing their own moral code onto others without regard to the 2 consenting people's feelings. They are 2 consenting adults, but to the outside world they are seen as disgusting creatures because they've broken the traditional moral code and are characterized to be "disgusting".
I don't mind that people like linking incestuous actions to characterized the people as "disgusting" like how people link murderers to be characterized as a "bad person", since it is hard to believe people in real life would have other circumstances outside the realm of fiction. Just remember even in real life, not everything is black and white, there is grey too.

The manga overall is okay, I mean, depending on your own ideals, you may or may not be disgusted at the ending.
The overall manga, before the ending was absolutely amazing, the character development was great and the over all story line was fairly well put together (despite the weird time warp thing, which threw me off a bit -__-).
Now, for most people. the problem would be the ending. In my opinion I agree with Dearest88, that since it was a work of fiction, the ending is fine.
The ending also does have some logic to it, as
There are a lot of bad ratings for this just because of the ending, but since I saw it as fiction, i enjoyed the story, even if the ending is odd, it's not a terrible ending.
so give it a shot, it's a very good read! And if you've already read the spoliers and don't like the ending, then read to vol. 4 (as Kagemamoru sugested )

She saw never really did refer to him as a father but as simply Daikichi, so she might have saw him in another way. But the fact that he could try to see her as anything but his daughter weirded me out. But once again, this is fiction... anything can happen.

I agree entirely with debsquared, I wish I could use bleach on my mind to erase everything after ch.24. Everything up till that point I loved and would rate it 8/10, after which it changed into a 7/10, but the ending is just too disgusting to recommend the entire thing. I can't believe some people accept this kind of thing.

Ok, it's a fiction, so I don't fuss over the romance in the ending.
And the story makes me remember "Aishiteruze Baby", just different ending.

Just read it in one go and am still in an emotional state, Rin has always loved daikichi, even from before the time skip, thats why she never called daikichi as "papa" or "uncle".
when also asked what daikichi is to her she answered that he is "her daikichi" a clearly possessive use that indicates that he is hers.
