Kinoshita Keiko never fails in bringing realistic characters. I really appreciate her way of showing people. Nobody's perfect, we all make mistakes, yet we all want to be loved without the need to pretend that we're someone else. And Yukiya, even though I saw many people hating on him, is the best example of that. He knows perfectly well his way of life is bad and that he's hurting Takanashi but there are things in his head that stop him from escaping that loop. I don't think I ever saw in BL manga such a good way of describing anxiety, low self-esteem problems, and general depression. True, Yukiya isn't a very likable character. Reading this story, one can get really angry with his choices or pity him, but hey, that's what makes him "human". He thinks he doesn't deserve love, so he acts on it. Takahashi knows it, that's the only reason why he somehow puts up with it. And once they finally communicate with each other, they find their happiness.

About the manga itself, I have to say that I'm not particularly fond of any of the characters. They're either too stubborn, or selfish, or oblivious, or lovelorn, or any combination of the above. And yet, even when tasked with all such difficult material, the author somehow still managed to make it work using her amazing mastery and expertise. She so skilfully spun everything into place to make for a smooth, elegant piece of fabric interwoven with meaningful dialogues and relatable character development. And as usual, the gorgeous art tied it all together into a complete package that only this mangaka is capable of.
