It has gorgeous illustrations, there’s no debating that, and the characters are so unbelievably interesting yeah, but the story kinda falls apart for me in the later halve, it focuses more in the world building, and the characters feel more stiff, they merely become tools to show us the machinations of the world, and while that is interesting, I kinda miss the main characters, the secondary characters are ok, but I believe they really get too much plot relevance on the later half.
Another of Igarashi's stunning works.

Igarashi Daisuke is, if nothing else, an absolutely brilliant artist. His work is fluid, detailed, and most importantly very evocative. He always seems to be able to create the perfect environment for his stories, and Kaijuu no Kodomo is no exception to this rule.
This is not a work for the impatient. It's slow to develop and very relaxed in its pacing, but the reward brought by the characters, and their changing world is more than worth the time you spend to delve yourself in. This is a piece that's not only worth reading, but actually worth buying, and I encourage everyone with the ability to pick up a copy when Viz releases the first volume in July.
