I read the whole Parasol Protectorate Series by Gail Carriger and loved it, so naturally I had to check this gorgeously illustrated manga out.
At first I was a bit sceptical because the cute girl on the cover that is seen embracing a wolf doesn't match with my description of Alexia, but my doubts were soon wiped away by the sheer fun the adaption was!
REM did a fantastic job converting the hilarious novel into an even more enjoyable manga, and I am more than happy with it.
Soulless is perfect in every way. The art is engrossing and detailed, as well as comic. The story still has its twists and turns, and the characters don't lack in personality when compared to the novel.
I am looking forward to read the next few volumes!

Looks nice, just not a (very) good adaption

Coming from the original novels, you might understand what happens and find this adaption a nice addition. Reading only the manga, there'll be 2 or 3 things you might not understand (or not even know at all) because substantial information is missing.
What to say about the Art? Beauuuuutiful! I would give it 10 out of 10 Stars for the art ... if only it was somewhat more true to the original (which it is not really).

Not that I was expecting it to be bad! I haven't read the book yet, but after finishing the first volume of this manga series I really want to! The art, story, and characters flow really well, I liked the romance and romance. Alexia was awesome from page one, and Lord Conall Maccon was a great love interest! I really like the new spin on vampires (making them into a hive, like bees with a queen, that's so clever) and the werewolves were awesome! Surprisingly this artist is not too shy with showing some skin (nudity, or Lord Conall Maccon nudity) and I wasn't bothered by it or anything, in fact I was surprised an artist actually had the guts to do actual male nudity (from the back, but still, it's rare to see in regular manga (although this would be Manhwa, wouldn't it?)
Overall, great series! I highly recommend it! And I hope to have all the volumes on my manga bookcase in the near future.

Amazing art, lacks of core informations, wild adventures requiring a high suspension of disbelief

I've read the first novel in 2013 but couldn't remember a thing about it, so i decided to try the comic version.
The art style is very beautiful, with attention to details both in architectural backgrounds and fashion design.
I can't say how much the plot follows the original storyline, but I can say it lacks core worldbuilding informations. It takes many things for granted knowledge thus detracting from full understanding and enjoyment.
In volume 1 there is also something missing between Maccon full moon retirement and his appearance at the Hippocras...
A pity most of page space was occupied by Alexia's melon-sized breasts and the ridiculous, absolutely out-of-period, gravity-defying bodices of her gowns that, apparently, stand up only thanks to perpetually hard - but invisible - nipples!
Thanks the aether, in vol.2 the artist conceded Alexia a bit of modesty!
It's great to have a visual rapresentation of all the steampunk contraptions.
Again, we're left with unanswered questions (who attempted to Alexia's life, and who and why took her notebook?) and we're treated to some omissions (how could Genevieve leave her shop and child unattended?) and puzzling behaviour (isn't it obvious how the pregnancy could happen?), but all in all is a very pleasant read.
Vol.3 follows as before: amazing art, wild adventures requiring a high suspension of disbelief (most because of Alexia's pregnancy and nobody worrying about it even when she falls from sky high) and trying to overlook the missing of basic informations and inconsistencies.
It has a definite ending, but as a last volume in the series it lacks a bit of closure.
Loved Queen Victoria cameos and the chibis in the last chapter's cover are too cute! XD

I enjoyed this little read immensely. I love reading novels about vampire and werewolves. I also love reading manga. So to read them together was super fun for me. These fantasy novels are usually 500 pages..(takes 2 days to read it) but to have the manga only portray the important scenes, really sped it up for me (but it was awkward at times because a chunk was missing from it. And you can tell.
All in all, this was a new experience for me. I've never read a OEL! How fun ^_^

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
For example, from the first arc, where they captured her and her vampire friend to use as test subjects....She was thrown into the vault to test if she can really nullify a werewolf..how in the heck did the werewolf turn out to be Lord Maccon? Was he captured? The last scene we saw him in, he was the at his own castle with his servants heading to his own cage, about to turn into his werewolf form...But next thing you know, he was in enemy territory..JUST HOW DID HE GET INTO THAT SITUATION? Who knows, because they never told us.
All in all, this was a new experience for me. I've never read a OEL! How fun ^_^

Like the others here, I think this is a fantastic adaptation of Gail Carriger's books, and actually am starting to prefer them. The work is absolutely true to the story and marvelously illustrated. The characters are so expressive and different from one another, and REM doesn't shy from the sexual aspects of the story either, though of course like the book there is nothing graphic about them. The adapter also pulled all the relevant parts from the book so the story feels complete. Note: these books feel about 50% longer than most manga volumes, so there are enough pages to do the story credit.
