Description
From DMP:
Kojima seeks to befriend the class outcast, and soon learns of Nakahara's troubled family life - of his uncaring, abusive father and mentally unstable mother. As Kojima yearns to somehow comfort Nakahara, he gradually becomes aware that his feelings for the other boy arise from more than mere sympathy. When Nakahara declares his own romantic feelings for Kojima, their relationship becomes one of sexual exploration as they face their first steps into adulthood together.

I was completely blown away by this. What can be said about Little Butterfly has pretty much been covered by other more eloquent comments, but I have to express my love for it too. The art is gorgeous and I was entranced by how cute and flowery-looking it was, but the story is much, much more profound. The true caring and love shown by both Kojima and Nakahara toward each other, even before they realized they were in love, is what romance should be like. This is the sort of wholesome story you come across in only a select few mangas in a long time, yaoi or otherwise.
If you're looking for a satisfying read, please pick this up and read it through to the end. Definitely NOT your typical yaoi! (Oh, and because they were so freaking adorable together, I didn't even care about sex... but when it happened, you can imagine it was so much hotter than anything.)
I enjoyed it so much I want to shout out a BIG thank you to Takanaga Hinako for bringing us such a gem!!!

this manga was the first yaoi I've ever come across and I'm glad because it was a real eye opener for me someone who originally thought that yaoi was just basically 'gay porn'.
LB is one of the rare few that could reach that perfect balance between romance and 'having a plot', which rules out thoughtless cliche and at the same time, not boring the readers. I often hate romance that give the characters a troubled background just to buy your sympathy or justify their flaws, but this just wasn't it. It's not something half-assedly done, like 'it's all a misunderstanding' or having Nakahara's father turned around n apologize or his mom recovered at the end nor is it something over the top, like drug abuse, self-incliction, suicide, etc. And that's what makes it feel real, personal and relate-able. With that said, the plot doesn't only spin around Nakahara, since Kojima pretty much has a typical decent life he doesn't quite have any problems of his own. So Nakahara sort of becomes the centre of his universe and his problems became Kojima's problems. That's not to say he's just being a busy-body, he actually cares so deeply to the extend of being emotionally troubled without even know why. And I thought that's what makes their relationship most convincing. It makes perfect sense why Nakaraha fell for him and why that love is reciprocated.
perhaps the whole thing is just 'too good to be true' but it's that unadulterated innocence that makes the very air of this manga absolutely unique and I love every bit of it.

When I first read this manga I was quite young and fell in love with it. Even now after so many years I still think it's good. Although nothing is marvelous per se, everything is well done, which makes for a very balanced manga. The art is lovely, the characters are likeable and the plot is simple but nice. There are sex scenes but not too many nor too rushed, and there also is a little angst without going over the top. This manga is kind of in between shoujo and yaoi, thus being perfect for shoujo readers who have just discovered BL. Older yaoi fans might enjoy this as well, since I believe a story about friendship and love, growing up and feelings can resonate with every one of us.

This is one of stories that really fills up your heart with warm feelings..the couple is simply sweet and adorable, but not too much that would make you feel you've had enough of them. Despite the cute love story, the overall story is surprisingly deep and complex, and deals with social and parental issues which unfortunately are very common occurrences in Japan. Takanaga sensei portrays the characters very well in terms of character developments and how they cope with all the adolescent problems and grow into becoming an adult. This is one strong point of this manga besides the beautiful artworks as expected from Takanaga Hinako. Very recommended for all yaoi lovers out there!
Must read!

This story will becoming one of only some yaoi manga I really love... This story is beautiful, besides the gorgeous art the story line is different from any other yaoi manga that focused on sex, but I can't deny that the sex part in this manga is hot
I wish Kojima an Nakahara were real

I feel like I know them for real as if they are friends of mine. Or rather.. I won't go there. XP
I loved this story though. I'm always finding manga that I say have become my favorite, but that hasn't happened in a while. This, though, is now my favorite manga. I just fell in love with the story, the characters, everything. This manga is just so incredible it's left me in a fog. I love it so much... >_<;;

Story: It's a story about youth, first love and friendship.
Art: I find Takanaga's art to be beautiful. It's very unique and one just knows it's her art from the first glance. In this manga the art is excellent as usual.
Characters: At first glance, both main characters seem pretty stereotypical: Kojima is cheerful, kind and outgoing, while Nakahara is gloomy, silent and reserved. But they're both much more than that.
Kojima's the kind of person who is not afraid to show his emotions, loves helping people and is very hard working. Though he is innocent, he is in no way naive or stupid as many characters with his 'character type' tend to be in BL manga.
Nakahara, who has a difficult family life, is gloomy and silent because he's afraid of letting people in, but once he does, his caring side is revealed.
In my opinion, the character development is what makes this title this good. You can see how Nakahara changes and opens up more, and how Kojima learns to let go of his insecurities and just *be* in love.
Enjoyment: I loved the manga and thoroughly enjoyed reading. It's one of the few outstanding titles in the BL genre, and I *really* recommend it to anyone who enjoys BL

This manga will always have a special place in my heart, and book collection. This was the first Yaoi I ever brought. It may seem cute. But it has pretty heavey material. Nakahara has to go through pretty personal issues with his family. The art work is just gorgoeous. I love her style. I remember how I went and brought all 3 volumes that day. I would recamend this to any Yaoi fan to check out. It's a beautiful read. I can't count how many times I picked up it and read it again.
Lovely...Little butterfly will always be in my top 3 Yaoi manga. If I could I would give it higher rating then 10. IMO it deserves it.

After so long, I've decided to reread it untill the very last page, and comment :3
So, after all the little cliches, and years of delaying the finale, sulking about the double pages I have finished Little Butterfly,
And I loved it!
The characters were kind of cliche, but well made. I don't see many such setuations in manga though (that I like anyway).
Their personalities were done with care, and made you feel for them throughout the series.
The art was very nice, as expected of Takanaga Hinako.
I also really enjoyed her afterwords.
So, it was an enjoyable, not too sad, quite happy and fullfilling manga^^

This was cliche in some places but was very well written. Like others have said it's a really good coming-of-age story. It was real in that the relationship was allowed to progress naturally instead of the "jump in bed after dramatic declarations" type. It was satisfying but I don't think I'll be rereading it.
