SUZUKA + ICHIGO 100 = Would be THE Master Piece.
by Rhadaze

Rating: 9.0  / 10.0
To begin with. I think Honoka Sakurai is a MUCH better example of what a shy girl should be compared to Toujo Aya. (((( SPOILER FOR ICHIGO 100))))
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
The fact the Aya NEVER did anything to have a happy ending with Manaka was for me, the one reason she did not deserve to have it

Sakurai, even as a shy person, fights for herself and her love, very interesting character.

Manaka was gay.... Akitsuki is kinda dumb and inexperienced, but certainly has some attitude. Thus, manaka should be more like Akitsuki in many ways.

Boths mangas had what the other lacked. For instance, in Ichigo 100, the characters would sometimes avoid taking obvious decisions for no reason other than the author wanting to restrain the development of the story. In this one, things would happen. The character wanna kiss, they kiss, they wanna start going out, they do, wanna break up, break up. I mean, they actually acted upon the situation like any of us would and then suffer the consequences, which made sense and gave a feeling of realism to the manga, and because of that, it developed in ways Ichigo 100 failed at.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
the end shows that clearly with the sex and pregnancy experience

I wouldnt say this is a love polygon.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
There are different romance plots going on, as it tells the life of a student, but there isnt much of a competition. The story pretty much has a main romance which it focuses upon.

it felt draggy at times. Sometimes it felt there were too many chapters for too little experience. Ichigo 100 felt like a much longer story even though they had pretty much the same ammount of chapters. The one part this manga excelled at this was at the end hough. I felt the latest chapters brought a LOT of content and meaning to the story. On that matter, ichigo 100 had much more of a Roller Coaster effect than this one. This was much more linear.

Also, something I dont usually see. Others mangas (ichigo 100 por example) only show the drama. Once the issue at hand is solved, it ends leaving the rest to your imagination. In this one, the story extended long enough to give the reader a sense of closure, it gives us a nice prologue and I think thats AWESOME! It sucks when you spend 170 chapters readring waiting to see how happy the couple you are cheering for a gonna end up, and then as soon as they get together the story ends.

I've read a couple of ecchi mangas and they haven't annoyed me as much as this one. I mean, chapter one where the glasses girl falls on him?? IMPOSSIBLE and she just kept sitting there? IMPOSSIBLE. I go search for other manga now *goes to search*

This manga does a great job in emotionally connecting with the readers

for some reason this manga gave me "The Wonder Years" Vibes, the tripes and turbulence of your first love and the sacrifice of one's goal in order to achieve certain more important things in life....

Great manga, One of the best EVER

Title says it all. My all-time favorite. Most intense storyline ever. The romance is just so freaking good, and I'm a guy! In my opinion, I liked Suzuka a lot better than Ichigo 100%. I would love to see more Suzuka but too bad it's over.. I'd just love to see a sequel that shows the rest of their loves together because they're the kind of manga couple that you just want to know what'll happen for the rest of their lives. I wanna see Fuka grow up too! Damn, I'm obsessing over Suzuka.. why did it have to be so good. Truly an amazing manga experience. I'd recommend this to anyone who likes romance. I feel so Suzuka-deprived now that I finished this and its one-shots..

Picked it up at the right time

You honestly have no idea how much I LOVE this manga. Seriously, I could not put it down. My #1 favourite romance manga. Kept me guessing right up until the end. I was pretty much with Yamato from beginning to end trying to decipher the mind and actions of Suzuka. I felt every single one of his emotions because around the time of reading I loved a girl who very much reminded me of Suzuka, and I was pretty much Yamato trying to keep up with her. I am very much like Yamato, btw. Suzuka was an unsafe harbor, because usually I have SOME idea what a girls thinking; but not with her. I couldn't tell a damn thing she was thinking or what thoughts were behind her sad face. Little did I know that it was a mask hiding her true feelings! I honestly felt for Yamato so much, because shit she seemed so out of left field. It was exactly the same as with the girl I loved that I couldn't keep up with.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Not only were her thoughts vague, but I couldn't even tell if her actions fit the thoughts or when she was fibbing. At times I wondered if they would work out or not. Their was no communication, like the girl and I. I could definitely understand his impulsiveness and frustration when she hid things (shiz, we all have a limit. Imagine being lost in the black tunnel that was Suzuka's mind) Why couldn't women just come out and say things??

God. Her facial expressions. No wonder why he could never give up on her. Her face is burned into my mind and probably his too.You cannot forget people like that. The sheer beauty is outstanding. I couldn't help but gawk at certain panels for ages and ages. Especially that face in chapter 112. Jesus, just like her. How the hell can someone look that GOOD when conveying something so heart wrenching for the both of them? I was clenching my teeth just like Yamato! FFS, where was the logic?? Seo Kouji is a genius at facial expressions. The warmth exuding from those eyes left me stricken.

When Suzuka started revealing the inner workings of her mind I was still a bit lost here and there until I got the whole puzzle sorted. Why can't women just come out and say things?? In Suzuka's case, she was pretty much hiding everything. Never being blunt until Yamato reached the point of no return (cue shit face). When she explained herself, I began to love her character and realized what I could have been doing better with my own unrequited love (though it might not be unrequited). I thought it was a myth but women are truly sensitive animals and are not to be taken for granted.

Also, who else found Honoka annoying? Every chapter featuring her, I wanted to push her out of the panels and tell Yamato to get his head IN THE GAME! We're trying to stubbornly figure out the workings of Suzuka's mind! Not pick up women; there would be plenty of time for that if he failed. Sometimes I was truly worried it wouldn't work out between the two of them. I had to reassure myself that the book was called "Suzuka" and not "Honoka" haha. I also found Yamato's lack of loyalty kind of annoying. He was giving up too soon I felt, but I could sort of understand because he wasn't completely roped in yet. After your roped in, there's no escaping haha.

Lastly because this is getting too long, the feeling of realism during the whole entire series added so well to the story. Her change in lifestyle was a slap out of nowhere and seemed so quick but hey, that's life. I didn't like that Yamato was so easily influenced, but I guess it was for story progression. It was a short series after all.

P.S. If you ever love someone who you can't figure out and are so different from you, keep on it. It's one of the most rewarding things and comes with the best feelings life could ever offer. After you love someone like that, you'll never be able to settle loving someone boring who is very like you, trust.

Like the girl, hate the boy. It's all in the characters, if they work for you, I am sure this would be a lovely piece to read. However, I absolutely, viscerally, abhor the protagonist.

I wish this was a fighting manga, so that he would get his face kicked-in in each chapter.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
He does get a lot of grief, but in my book, that is not quite enough.

I picked up this manga while waiting on Kimi no Iru Machi less than a week ago and have been unable to pause.

I read several reviews before beginning, but I'll say it doesn't change the fact that it's deserving of at minimum a 9/10. While I enjoy the story-tale of KnIM, Suzuka is much more realistic in my opinion. If you started KNiM first, you'll see a lot of familiar faces and experience just as wide a range of emotions from its successor.

The elements of a striving teenage relationship is truly captured in this manga. Episodes of misunderstanding, romance, distance, heartache, and endless apologies.. all of it is unmistakably nostalgic. The ending was just perfect for this type of story, as I could not have expected such a beautiful turn of events.. Suzuka, is just my type after all, like my wife *_^

If you want to read a harem manga you'll be disappointed here, because it's mainly focused on the romantic plot. The main character's kind of annoying due to his apologizing in almost every chapter and all his relationship problems seem to be just too extreme.

In my opinion it was just like a bad spanish soap.

It's not much of a harem manga, definitely focuses more on the romance aspect. The plot is very realistic and relatable. There are a lot of difficulties between the couple to frustrate the fans, but i feel like it has done a good job portraying the development of the couple very realistically. it's not just fall in love and live happily ever after. New problems constantly emerge. It might be a bit frustrating at first, but it also helps you feel the reduction in terms of the distance between the two main characters.
The art is nice. The characters are lovable. The plot is decent. The ending wasn't bad either.
Overall it's a good romantic manga.

Emotional rollercoaster

This manga was an emotional rollercoaster with lofty highs and rocky lows. The plot is believable, and the characters are, for the most part, realistic with believable personalities. At times I became frustrated and wanted to give up reading, but I stuck with it, and in the end I was extremely satisfied. The ecchi was mostly subtle, and there wasn't an unrealistic amount of fan-service. This is definitely a good read deserving of it's high average ranking.
