Description
From Baka-Tsuki:

Intellectual Villages are old fashioned rural villages recreated with cutting edge technology. Those villages attract the Japanese monsters known as Youkai. The high school boy Jinnai Shinobu lives in one of those villages and has a Zashiki Warashi living in his house. He tends to run across Youkai with unnerving frequency and this often leads to trouble for him.

Are you kidding me? Only two *negative* comments for this masterpiece of strategic battles?!?

This series is amazing! To each their own, I grant you, but there's a reason why a kind somebody held on and translated through volume seven. If you don't like mystery novels, don't read this. But boring? NO! Challenging, yes, but not boring in the slightest if you like the genres involved!

To me, this series is not only readable, but enjoyably and rewardingly RE-readable. The plot structures are ambitious, true, and that ambition increases with every novel or so, but the author has an experienced touch and mostly keeps it on track. Well, except when he blows that track apart! (I'm looking at you, gambling island arc!!!) The characters have a nice balance of richness and recognizability, necessary in an ensemble cast.

The level of creativity is astounding and, as a former writer, I can tell you it blows me away how he keeps coming up with even more creative twists with each volume. How can he make it look that easy?!? You can see the author has fun with the Package concept, of which saying much more would become a spoiler. But it creates a mystery novel/spell folklore cross of a trope that has some of the most enjoyable blending of disparate elements that I've seen in a while.

I would put this series up there with the reality-bending English-language graphic novel Ronin, which I bought one summer and suddenly found that fall that we were studying extensively it at my ivy-league American university. This series is not quite the same mind-...uh, -twist, and of course it is not as concise the one-volume comic was, but the further you go in, the more impressive it gets.

I would turn the rating up to 11 if I could.

I agree to the above reviews. Even thought the idea is brilliant of mixing rural and urban style of lifestyle. The plot is way too complicated for us to understand, grasp and hence we end. Up not enjoying it at all despite the action scenes. There's a lot of fanservice here and there which you might like.
The characters are pretty good, but the author either explains too much or goes around in circles for us to actually know what the f*** is happening.

This novel was a complete mess
no coordination at all
As your read you are like reading from a another persons point of view to the 3rd person

The jumping of characters POV is somehow annoying
it was like you are reading from 1st floor then the next part you are force to read to another floor
at first it was ok since I was reading the MC part but after the MC story is done
It left a huge cliff hanger only to realize that the next chapter is another complete story

In other words there is so many mc in this novel
and to make it worse the story is so confusing since you are force to read so many different POV from different characters some are even minors

The intro was a trap it was useless and not even part of the story
Like I said to many POV characters which make it hard to see who is the real MC of the story
and there is no PLOT it just random mysteries from out of the blue
I read so many detective and mystery related novels but this one is completely useless
A case just jump from out of nowhere and to make it worse they don't even solve the case just left it hanging then proceed to another story which is completely unrelated to the 1st one

To some it up
If you like reading confusing novel then this one is for you
But as for me I just drop it

An odd mashup of youkai and SciFi. The story itself is confusing and full of boring segments. The whole examination of a hotel/hospital building thingy's contract terms and conditions in regards to a scam by humans pretending to be youkai...what the F am I reading? What part of this whole scenario makes any sense?! The MC is basically reading, for pages on end, terms and agreement papers as boring as the real deal that no one ever reads in real life, so why the hell is it portrayed in loving detail in a LIGHT NOVEL that I am apparently reading for entertainment? NONE of the genre tags for this trash belongs. Except perhaps the mystery tag as it sure is a mystery how this LN ever got published.
