The Sins defeat the Demon King

I'm warning you, do not waste your time reading the final arc mainly because it holds no purpose other than to drag the story. Imo, the only interesting thing that came from this garbage heep of an arc is Merlin's backstory (which should've been revealed a long time ago), the final chapter is also okay I guess, but only because of King and Diane

Rinse-and-repeat shounen manga

I’m not faulting the mangaka for having very obvious influences. We all (well, majority of us) love Akira Toriyama-sensei’s works. And while I’m also not faulting the mangaka for the cliches (oh boy) I might list a few of them anyway, cause... oh boy, the cliches.

(Please note I’ve only gotten through the first arc, and/or season 1).

Cliched to the max. And while some manga build upon the cliches, and others subvert them, this series is quite predictable because of the cliches. Literally go down the list and this hits every shounen cliche possible. Some of the more interesting characters REALLY made the series what it is - I can tell you now, those characters are NOT Meliodas or Elizabeth.

King was interesting, for his character development and his emotion. He was a very interesting character from the moment he entered the series, and that only builds. What was cool too is seeing an non-human species, the only non-human species to get some type of world building. None of the others get this yet, unfortunately. Hopefully later!

Ban is my favorite, and I can tell he’s easily a fan favorite. Easily more personality and drive than our MC, Meliodas. Funny lines, great fan service, love his love story, coolest fighter - I want him to win, no matter his opponent.

I’m looking at you, episode 11
.

But there’s always the annoying crap.

Hawk. I liked the occasional sassy line, but I’m not a fan. Hawk makes me not want to watch. Maybe I’ve out grown shounen, but I can’t with the talking animal mascot with the shrill, annoying voice that adds nothing but bad comedic relief.

Diane is the typical shounen female “badass” that is hyped up but never seems to really deliver? She doesn’t have much of a personality outside of her crushes, and
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
I can’t recall a (critical) fight from the first season that she won on her own merits.

Meliodas. He’s very... horny. He should’ve been lust, not wrath. He didn’t get much character development in the first season. Which is disappointing when he’s the MC and leader of the whole group. Throw in every typical shounen protag saying and add same horniness to it but give him a blank expression or a smile pretty much the entire time and you have Meliodas.

Did the mangaka think that made him more cool? He seems distant, dull, and lost. I never once got excited for his fights. I never rooted for him. I was indifferent the entire time. King got the deepest story and the emotion. Ban got the funny lines, the personality, and the drive. Meliodas... wants to get into Elizabeth’s pants.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
His backstory is he misses a woman who looks and has the same name as the woman he’s currently into... so knowing how cliched this story is, Elizabeth IS Liz, reincarnation or something. I’d bet money on that.

There’s a character how I think will be my favorite.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Merlin. I have high hopes for her! She seems like a badass, but... all female characters in this series are damsels in distress at some point or another. Diane needing to be saved constantly. Fucking Elizabeth. Guila, who I loved, but was a screaming woman who had to be saved by a man. Jericho needing to be saved. Margaret.
Why are all of these women reduced to damsels in distress constantly? Oh, shounen cliches.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
But I’m hopeful for Merlin! We’ll see. She seems promising.

Elizabeth. Damn... her cliches. Bruh. Miss Mary-Motha-F**king-Sue. I skipped her scenes. Her whining about giving her life for stranger peasants. Whining about wanting to go to next fight when she can’t even move. You’re selfish. You want to be there for the fight when all you do is get in the way, scream, cry, and give the bad guys a weak point for the good. Her speeches? Her goodness? Her purity? She made me want to barf with how pure and innocent she was. (But couldn’t tell when Meliodas was violating her. Clueless!)

I nearly drop it several times because of her. Cliched trash cheerleader who is oh-so-important for no damn reason. Her have zero flaws made her horribly flawed, her innocence and “self-sacrificing” was piteous.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Don’t get me started on her Mary Sue powers in the last episode that healed everyone and brought the dead back to life. (Not to mention bitch cried harder for a pig she’s known a few weeks than she did for her own sister.) I realized I might be way too old for shounen when I felt nauseous at such a horribly cliched scene for the egregiously Mary Sue heroine.
And don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate ALL Mary Sue characters, I STILL read the Anita Blake book series, but damn.

So... yeah.

But I didn’t hate it? Some of the over used shounen tropes DO still work on a die hard fanboy such as myself. (I loved Demon Slayer). The DBZ reminiscent fights were fun. Ban and King were cool, I did enjoy Guila, Gilthunder, and Gowther as well. I do want to see more of the characters fleshed out. Maybe the rest of the series gets better with the cliches and such?

I’m in it for Ban, at least.

The author tried to be too epic with the small fries ,the first arks ... and now the bigger badies aren't that impressive . They conceptual first chapters were way better .But I guess that editors and the Japanese public like to insert cliches ,excessive echi and drama onto everything

I genuinely liked nanatsu no taizai for a long time, the first 100 chapters were worthy of praise, but from then on it started to decline.

Even with the arrival of Escanor, a character that worked very well for being the essence of what the manga should always have been, the author was unable to maintain the level of the first arcs, leaving aside everything he had done right, opting for a narrative more and more convoluted and uninteresting, trying to be something bigger and more epic than it should.

What started as a fun reading ended as a huge bad experience and a lesson on how not to write a battle shounen.

Below average shounen

Nanatsu no taizai is a boring and uninteresting battle shounen that brings nothing new to the table. The worst aspect of this series would be the main characters. Both are insufferable as Meliodas is extremely perverted and stupid, sexually harassing Elizabeth whenever he gets the chance. Its weird how he's suposed to be the sin of wrath when he's perverted. Elizabeth is also annoying as she's annoyingly timid, shy, passive, and a damsel in distress. The fight scenes are predictable and boring since the protagonists are overpowered. The story is also lacking as well and the villains have horrible motives. The fact that I don't like the art style doesn't help and the art copies DBZ way too much. A few good things about this series is ban, and the chemistry between some characters. This series isn't worth reading.

I actually try to avoid this serious as much as I heard so many good things about it and finally when it came out on DVD and Blu-ray I finally decide to pick it up and from what I watched I really enjoyed it. The characters have some charm to them the story is not the same as far as someone has to be the best or be accepted by the world. Where these characters were already accepted just got their selves betrayed by their own people that they were trying to protect. Interesting. The only thing I have an issue with is sometimes then bringing back certain characters back from the dead or one big villain from the first season it's supposed to be gone and now he's back in the next Saga. And then I continue to read for the manga and and I still enjoy it. Can't wait to see how this will end.

"Average" plastered all over this one
by Seregosa

Rating: 5.0  / 10.0
This is... average. Extremely average. It's all the old clichés, the art style and story style reminds me of dragonball, right down to the scouter. It's a typical shounen manga, everything about it screams "Oh my god, what's this feeling of deja-vu". Just like bleach, one piece, naruto, dragon ball and all other similar shounen manga, this is just trash when you've wandered down the road of novels, anime and manga. It's a good one for newcomers who haven't read anything yet, as good as any of the other generic shounen crap to introduce you, it's also good for young people where a good plot, solid story and good humor/action/drama doesn't really matter.

I tried reading it and then after a few dozen chapters, I just started skimming through the rest. I wouldn't want to touch this again with a 30 meter long stick. It tries to be funny, but it fails horribly, everything feels childish and immature, the story makes me cringe, it all feels so forced and fake, the personalities are bland and unrealistic... The battles are also retarded and feel extremely forced, there's WAY too much emphasis on the mc acting "cool" and doing stuff that people might see as "cool", acting like a "badass" or fighting ineffectively while striking poses or whatever. The combat and power systems are generally weird and screwed up, along with the fighting styles and explanations. Yeah, I hate when stuff gets overdramatized just for the sake of it looking cool and seeming awesome, it's an extremely cheap excuse for a shallow story, I especially hated the jumping neck chops and stuff like standing with a hand behind your back and parrying someones full-on attack with one arm. No, it's not cool, it's just silly, foolish and generally infuriating. As if that wasn't enough, the battles just repeat and repeat, just like the other generic shounen crap, there's always someone better and enemies keep popping up like weed... But this one is actually worse than those other ones where legitimately stronger enemies pop up out of other dimensions or something, because it seems that in this manga these guys will actually drop in power levels and get some severe case of amnesia or something which makes it impossible to bring out the power they used before and they instead get their asses kicked by people who should be weaker than them until they somehow remember some of their power again after enough drama and getting beaten up.

But that's generally true for generic trash like this. It just doesn't cut it anymore when you have read and watched hundreds, or in my case thousands, of manga, novels and anime. Stuff like this gets its great popularity because it's easy to understand and get into when you're new to this and then people look back upon it favorably because they loved it back then, even if they wouldn't want to read it again.

Don't get me wrong, it's a good manga for younger audiences or those who haven't been exposed to that much anime/manga. It's just not worth it for more mature readers or experienced readers. So, I'll give it a solid average of 5/10. It's not bad, but it's not good either, it's just the stuff that's good for when you get started, in which case it will probably we considered awesome and unbelievable and you will always look back at it with nostalgia.

This series is a great one and interesting. If you really want to complain about somebody who is Opie that you need to check out one punch man because that character is far from okay where no one can beat him and he can be everyone a single punch without no explanation no nothing so they complain about the seven deadly sins that's very laughable expecially considering how popular one punch man is compared to something like this. Hope he is fine as long as you can continue to write something that's interesting and as long as that in your actual story but if you're just making crap up just to make more money then I disagree and I feel that you need to end the serious as you want to send it other than that I think the serious is greati

Fairly flat. It's as action-packed as a standard shounen needs to be, but offers very little to the formula; good for filling up your time if you've got nothing better to do, or more importantly to serve as a gateway for newcomers to the medium.

Good if you can ignore its flaw

The author definitely too afraid of getting axed that he show so much destruction just to look cool that later any form of destruction is not cool anymore, because it was overdoing now it just boring, character destroy town everyone shocked 100 chapter later same thing happen and everyone shocked again.

Not only that so many plot hole because of the power is so OP not in form of destruction but of how convenient it is to use, it can practically render everyone useless, and despite that it was not used earlier by the enemy, to make thing worse they use it in worse possible times, talk about wanting their own plan to fail, other flaw really really stupid enemy.

The character quite good, except for the MC itself, he always show blank expression either when fighting, talking or gropping does author think it will make him cooler? later it was changed but still.... all side character shine so bright, like Ban/King/Diane but the MC itself is bland.

This is a good manga if you can ignore any sort of plot hole, or logic, bland MC, or bad enemy. Also this is one of the best author, he really know how to panel(?), in short he can show really cool scene in one page, everything is arranged neatly.
