Simple but endearing story about being an art student with dreams. Give this a go especially if you have interest in art!

Hardly can a 1-volume manga convey such meanings and thoughts like this one. Simple as a breath, but as real as life. Almost haunting.

Most of Souryo's work have art or art-related stuff as recurring theme; as for this one, art-centered. The story revolves around a girl studying art in a special high school with concerns for passion, talent and her own future. I find it amazing that the modest lines, nearly half of which are her own reflection, can build up such a good plot and subtly arouse sophisticated matters from choices in life, career orientation, the jazz generation of Japan to nostalgia and art pursuers.

As for the art style, it's clean but captivating and has the strength to carry the story.

Highly recommended!

I was pleasantly surprised by this manga.
I'm not into art, but i just felt the main character and the rest of them, it's like the previous poster said: simple but endearing.
It didn't go overboard with multiple character relations and all the stuff that happens in most mangas out there.
It felt real and i just loved the ending.
Not many stories out there like this one, highly recomend it!

Almost Perfect

This manga is a look back to her life in an art high school, told by a woman decades older. The sense of the confusion and alternating hope and fear of young people trying to figure out how to arrange their future is quietly, expertly displayed. The art is great.

To me the most interesting thing about this manga is the understatement. It seems, from what I've read of Japanese literature, that when they set out to be realistic they don't overstate stuff. This is the opposite of how storytelling is handled in manga. Check it out here and see what you think.

And watch closely as that ending plays out. It's a killer (though perhaps only to an old person like me).
