Amusing story with well-done smut

First thing first, I agree with previous comments, especially from ohkimch who pointed out many of the flaws within the story. I feel the same way as well.

But I am backing it up a little here. It is based on a fairy tale story: it's old, it's ancient. Thus, it reflects the thinking and values of the people at the time - which many of us here considered backward, sexist, misogynic, abusive, frankly problematic throughout. And they are learning points for us to see into, reflect and discuss in comparison with what we have going on today, to see progresses and look forward to what can be and will be.
Same thing with the literature we study at school (some might say Scarlet Letter is maddening or How To Kill a Mockingbird portrays white-savior syndromes), but we still study them because they are part of our histories and social constructs (please refer to literatures from your native lands as examples).

There has always been darkness as there has always been light (albeit more or less of the other). So we still get to see something good out of all these. Please be reminded, in the original story, the Princess was casted aside at the end. Here, the author goes further to illustrate what might happen afterward. Do I agree with all the horrible things happened by so many forces and by the protagonists themselves? Based on my present set of values: No.
But it was a relief and a sense of satisfaction for the happy ending and the thoughts and growths of the characters. To me, the author clearly thinks it through and really tries to put herself into the situation and twists and turns them so they turn out (somewhat) positive, hopeful and nice at the end - which is what most of us humans strive for in the bad/horrible circumstances - and which I really appreciate.

On a personal note, I usually avoid "smut". Often, the collection bores me with the mindless physicality and repetition of lust without much thoughts into the characters or their surrounding, be it shoujo or josei or LGBTQ+ stories.
However, I must commend the execution here. It is arousing (well, smut is supposed to be so). Yet it leaves me with after thoughts of the conducts and the feelings of the characters. That is why I subject this as "well-done smut". It's not there just for the pleasure. It's short the story, yet it makes you think beyond.

Again, the previous comments and opinions are all valid. At the same time, I encourage anyone to just go for the story, then form your own thoughts and feelings on it. Be open-minded if you can. Recognise what you like or dislike. Props or condemn the author afterward. Most importantly, learn the lessons that befit you while also take into account the differences of others.

Enjoy!

Classic fairytales aren't known for their positive portrayals of women/romantic relationships, but I can't help but find the positive reception on this site to this tale disheartening and disappointing.

I don't feel up to taking the time to expound the flaws and harmful social constructs therein (I'm old and tired), so.

To put it simply, these themes p***ed me off:
- pedophilia/ephebophilia as the prince tries to be the "early bird getting the worm" as the princess has just turned eighteen, is easily manipulated/sheltered, and her social status offers connections he wants for his own kingdom
- the normalizing of harmful repercussions when rejecting men (for whatever reason)
- intimate, physical favors being asked as payment/the idea of female bodies being up for barter
- the value of a woman being determined by her virginity or "purity"/the Defiled Forever trope
- related to the last but not the same, the dichotomy of the virgin and the wh*re (i.e Madonna-Wh*re Complex)
- the rape scene. She says no, is crying/resisting, and he holds her wrists down and rapes her

The princess is honestly a terrible human being at the beginning, selfish/proud/myopic/all-other-negative-traits-assoc-with-being-a-noble-or-royal, but she did not deserve the events used to "inspire" her growth. And the misogynistic themes are reprehensible regardless of the characters involved.

Yeah. I'm done tossing my two cents into this void. Would not rec this unless I wanted to complain about it/pick it apart wih someone else.

It wasn't perfect of course, but it has that sort of charm that, IMO, cannot be explained. Like the subject title, I absolutely adored this. The characters are intriguing, most especially our main hero, the Prince. The princess' character was also developed really well.

Wow. The twists and turns of their love story make you want to read page after page. The modern references were a little off though, but I just shrugged them off as comic relief. Great read!

It is too weird

Well the story is good... But adaptation is so-so. Technological part seems out of place... It could have been modern adaptation, and I wouldn't have any problem with that, but common, they are riding in carriages and there are no signs of asphalt but they are talking stuff like "I will find her using GPS" which just too strange. And I just can't give credit to the mangaka for the plot as it is not even original story...

Completey agree with kitty1826x about the secondary character's reactions to the prince's words... the entire storyline has been carried out in a very cheeky and audacious yet chaste manner.

I'll be honest, the art from the get go made me go "Whaaa" coz I was expecting much more delicate or gorgeous art. Here you see a very German or western influence, it's not really the kind of shoujo manga art (or even regular manga) like the kind you're accustomed to... so I felt it lacked a little pizzaz... hence the 8. Story and character wise, this one's a winner. Of course I take a LOT of issue with the original fairy tale and this rendition of the story itself, but that's already been written and I cannot hold that against the manga. But if you are a self respecting woman, you will feel outraged at the circumstances doled out to the princess after a point and that a wee bit of Stockhold Syndrome comes into play for the neat and clean resolution of the story that we see.

This is one of the most well done short mangas that I've ever read. It expands on the original story and gives out much more insight into the characters' thoughts. Imo, it really improves on the original. The smut is tastefully done and actually adds to the plot. There's also a little unexpected bit of humor throughout with futuristic (or should I say present?) references throughout. The art is pretty good and meshes well with the story. In short, it's great. Check it out if you can! smile

This is a surprisingly good retold version of Andersen's classic fairy tale. The clear and clean art managed to convey the bitter-sweet story line. The characters are very interesting, especially the princess who has been given a new breath in comparison with the depiction of the original fairy tale.

I'd recommend it for those who is fond of a smart twist of those classic stories.

I could say that the character was appealing specially the Prince.
It's attraction and distrust comes in sequence.
Surely, both of them has an irrevocable feelings conveyed but hindered by circumstances.
Yet lesson learned.

What a romantic and sweet adaptation. Truly marvelous in execution. Any girl would go jelly and fall in love with the slow and gentle way of kissing of the swineherd. The art is clean and simple but very effective in conveying the characters' emotions. I wish there was more. ^_^
