Something Unusual

Most manga and light novels are popular entertainment and not much more. This light novel IS much more. In the first place, it mines the standard manga, etc. context of Japanese teens in high school to the max. Here we have a very introverted but very smart boy who, thanks to a teacher who can see his potential, gets linked up with two girls in something called the Service Club. The teacher essentially tricks the boy into becoming one of this group that undertakes to try to solve such personal problems as their fellow students might bring to them. Not a promising, start, seemingly, since the boy has avoided most school socializing for most of his life, and the girls are, each in her own way, a bit limited socially (though beautiful!).

Also seems not promising because it looks like a set-up for a standard harem story, right? Well, maybe, but there is a very large charge of creativity in this author's brain that prevents her from just doing that standard trope. Instead, we get a complex story that lots of readers will find takes them back to their high school days with a vengeance. These three characters have a lot of growing and personal development to accomplish, and so do the secondary teenage characters. The winding and uncertain path they all walk toward adulthood is absorbing, mysterious, and, often, full of suspense, as we wait to see whether the main character's latest off-the-wall idea as to how to fix the problem brought to the Service Club by their latest "client" is going to pan out.

Meanwhile there are multiple love stories here that are even more suspenseful. It's really very hard to put this light novel down.

His writing really just pulls you right there. Like when the atmosphere in the story is tense, my hands were literally shaking a bit, and my feet felt so cold, like I was the one experiencing it. It was so magnificently detailed! The protagonist's thoughts are literally out-of -this-world from the usual trope. It dragged a bit, but it was only to create an atmosphere convincing enough for the climax! And SRSLY!! THE ROMANCE WAS JUST FU*KING CUTE!! Y'ALL!! THAT I ENDED UP NOT BEING ABLE TO SLEEP THE WHOLE NIGHT THINKING OF THEIR DAMN CUTE INTERACTIONS! Well.. coughh.. so... that's how it is..You will feel empty inside after just finishing it all in one swoop, and you keep wanting for more of the character's interactions, but I pray that the upcoming anthologies will be translated entitled "Parade" and "Yukino's Side".

So far from what i've read (v4) it's pretty decent, not great, but decent, the story is pretty consistent yet also episodic at times, the main problems i have with this is when 2 of the side characters are around
the first; Uber Chuuni-kun, every time he turns up, i feel like skipping the chapter completely
the second; Totsuka, simply cause it makes me feel like the LN will turn into a BL with the way the MC starts fawning over him >_>....
and the way the people treat the MC simply cause his eyes are supposedly like dead fish eyes (can't really see it with the LN illustrations though), aswell as some of the MC's inner dialogues that seem to amount to absolutely nothing.

other than those points i'll give this a thumbs up and reccomend to others

So many 10 star reviews for a manga that is full of angst. I don't really get it. One chapter when the MC is playing tennis, he serves and apparently foresees the wind blowing or some dumb shit. After that point, he goes on yet another dumb tirade about being a loner to those "normalfags" with literally no prompt to do so. No one asked. No one ever asks. He just randomly goes on tirades more than half the time. There's also a boy that acts more feminine than any girl I've ever seen added into the manga as well. The plot for this manga is so thin it may as well not have one.

Absolute trash.
