Description
Takato's younger sister Utako has always been a frail child - constantly shut up inside the house and not even allowed to venture outside into the sun. But she's cheerful and affectionate, and Takato can't bring himself to be dissatisfied with the situation at home.

But when he returns to his village after a semester away at his new boarding school, Takato begins to notice changes, not just in Utako but also in his two childhood friends, who seem to know more than they're letting on. And what does all this have to do with an old but infamous folk tale in the village?

It's pretty interesting but it's a bit short.

From intriguing to predictable

The first chapter piqued my curiosity quite a bit, and I went into the rest of the manga with high hopes... Only to be let down terribly. Perhaps it's because of the single-volume length, but by the end of the second chapter I had several strong suspicions regarding how events would play out, and by the middle of the third could tell, almost in order, what would happen next. The latter three chapters I merely skimmed through to confirm my suspicions, and confirmed they were.

Now, predictability isn't necessarily a bad thing -- especially in longer manga with an arc format where the "how" is more important than the "what" -- but when it's a short series wherein the entirety of the story's success hinges on keeping the reader guessing, things becoming obvious so early on is a fatal flaw. No hope for the characters being the saving grace, either, since the cast is very standard for this type of plot, and the protagonist and his love interest (the real love interest, not the decoy) were both as bland as dust. The male childhood friend was the only likeable one, despite being a stereotypical supporting character for this brand of male lead.

Not recommended, unless you have half an hour to kill and nothing better to do.

Very good art and intriguing story

Sure, the small town with the mysterious yokai history is an old trope, but it is still interesting if well told. So far, one chapter in, this one looks to be good. It is only one volume long so it doesn't waste much time getting to the meat of the story, but it does take its time introducing the characters in this first chapter. You get a good feel for the character dynamics, but it leaves plenty of mystery, especially about the two childhood friends of the main character. (The guy especially. I think the main mystery about the girl is why she hasn't told the MC that she is in love with him yet... And is that ever really a mystery in Shoujo manga? LOL!
