Watanuki has been the proprietor of Yuuko's shop for quite a long time now. Though visions of her accompany him everyday and he desires nothing more than her return, Watanuki himself has matured into a competent shop proprietor. Pointless sequel

I'm very skeptical when authors come back to their old works since there is a big possibility for the sequel to mess up everything and Holic Rei proves it. Let's be honest clamp dragged some sort of pointless plot-line of dreams and than

Yuko's possible reincarnation which i don't feel makes any sense rather than just become new custodian of the shop and make pathetic Watanuki leave and have a life.
This work is so commercial forced that maybe only hardcor xxxholic fans can enjoy. Clamp obviously draw solely for money and I wish nobody buy this sequel anymore so they will stop drawing crap like this focus on quality not quantity.

I love riddled manga's, and this one makes my head spin. But in a good way. Artwork is simple yet nice.

we see the boy.. Working back at the shop for the witch?!. He goes through the regular rounds of "customers", but what is strange is that he is solving it all himself. As well as figuring things out himself as well. While before he couldn't. Last chapter has him figuring out that he switched to a different dimension. One that she exists again. He makes a hard choice to leave her. He wakes up back at the shop. As the shop keeper again.. While she is gone. Very touching so far. He continues with trying to find things to help them in the other realm. He also I counters the red pearl again and is in debate about giving it to the rain goddess to help someone else. He then has this weird thing happen to him that brings his vision to the other realm and he colapses.

For all the hints in every other chapter, all I can think is that this is definitely a sequel. The only question is, just how long will CLAMP keep Wantanuki in a delusion/past/alternate universe/dream/whatever.

It sticks to the holic formula of problem solving while having a very vague over plot that is only hinted at until... their ratings warrant a plot revelation I guess?

The only down side compared to the original is that the chapters feel like they're being written for tanks instead of for magazine publishing, so many chapters feel like cuts of one longer chapter. It feels like one chapter is just one or two scenes. I think they could condense it a bit and be a bit more wordy and it'd be an improvement.

xxxHolic is all in all the best thing Clamp ever put out (the x anime adaptation notwithstanding) so maybe you can understand my disappointment with how it "ended". This time around there is no "side series" to work round so i was hopeful and waited for a proper ending/continuation. What i have now (Vol. 2 is the current one) is not what i can be content with. At best it is a side story during the originals first act.
At worst it is just a license to print money and Clamp would NEVER do that. Right ? I hope the story starts to kick in soon or i will have to kick the manga and that would be a shame.

Update: Volume 3 and i am still not feeling it. 2 more and i am out but a Hiatus (Clamp never ?) has befallen the series too. What is the point again? Go for the Pet Shop of Horrors (8/10) franchise and Tokyo Babylon (8/10) instead and just accept the non ending of part 1 at this point as am not reading the Tsubasa - World Chronicle - Niraikanai Hen parallel narrative already.
