I may have become a fan of Sensei because of Komatta Toki ni wa Hoshi ni Kike, but I have to say, I think this is a much better manga than her BL works. I'm obsessed with shounen-ai/yaoi right now, but honestly, I think this story line is just so much more intriguing despite having a weak BL subplot. I'm completely okay with it even if it didn't have any hints/suggestions of romance because that's how much I love the plot and characters. It really stands out as one of those rare works that is anything but cliche. The anime is perfect too (which by the way needs a 3rd season!!! >.<).

I really liked the anime, but had a feeling much had been left out/combined for time constraints (like a certain blizzard story), especially because the ending was such a seemingly random jumble of things we were never really told throughout the anime, so I wanted to read the manga to get more of this wonderful story. I turned out to be both right and wrong *cough*why no blizzard story*cough* The manga, as usual, was so much better than the anime, giving info that made many points of the anime suddenly *actually* make sense, so I was a little devastated to find only the first 5 volumes scanlated so far when the anime covers Vol. 1-13. I want more, I want to know the full story behind what I saw in the anime, and where it goes from there. I adore the characters and the oh so rare unique plot line.
Actually, were it not for the anime I likely never would have read this manga, since I tend to avoid mangaka who write shota/loli, so I'm especially glad this manga *wasn't* a part of that genre. I'm very glad this was made into an anime as well. ?

I am a demon manga fan and this work inspires me to read other manga. It has well developed characters and good setting. Definitely recommended for first time manga readers. The series is on public hiatus but won't appear anytime soon.
Interesting!

As an Abe Miyuki fan, I love this story as much as her other works. Though it is not the same as her shounen-ai stories, Hakkenden is special in its own way. Mysterious, intriguing and triggers the curiosity of readers ;)
Love it!

As expected of Abe Miyuki-sensei, the manga is full of pretty boys and very slashable. The characters are pretty fun and the "uke" is not wimpy - just like in Komatta Toki and Super Lovers, the uke looks cute and younger than his age, but he is strong and somewhat bratty, very fun
I think the manga is/was serialized in a shounen-ai-focused magazine, but Hakkenden isn't really shounen-ai, just super slashable and without hetero romance (at least so far, and seeing how Komatta Toki turned out, I think it's likely there will be no clear shounen-ai/yaoi in Hakkenden), therefore can be enjoyed by many, not just yaoi fans. The strong points of this manga are the characters, the plot... Personally, while I like yaoi, I'm glad this manga isn't romance-focused
I recommend to anyone who likes great art, pretty boys, bromance and non-clinched story Don't read if you expect hetero romance (well, the manga is marked as "shoujo", but not "shounen-ai" - don't let this mislead you).

I love the plot. Slight, and I really mean it, slight shounen ai moments but it doesn't spoil the story amazing plot and characters. Actually, it makes it more comical in a way during their funny interactions lol. It is NOT shounen ai or yaoi and for that, I am glad. I am a fan of bl myself but, I love stories like this so much I really don't think the bl is nessessary. Bromance is fine and comical.
I'm a fan of Abe Miyuki Sensei's work and it's really awesome to read more of her awesome work. Keep me interest like you always do, Abe Sensei

I love this manga! Even though only 11 chapters are scanlated so far, the pages are plenty so I'm not disappointed waiting a month or so for the next release, the characters are likable, and the hints of comedy in it make you giggle. I don't really mind a cast full of bishies, all the more eye candy in my opinion, I just wish a group picks up scanlating this quicker.
This is not Shounen-ai....

Not sure why it's labled as such. You might be able to say it's slash, but that's it, unless, perhaps, that changes after Volume 8, which is how far I've read so far. Anyway, it's a good manga; the plot is decent and the art is nice. I enjoy reading it.
